Probably good value for that money providing you understand what it is and what it does.

European On Board Diagnostics came into legislation in the UK on 1st January 2001 for petrol cars and 1st January 2004 for diesels. It provided a standardisation for fault engine emission related codes across five protocols which cover most vehicles manufactured in Europe, North America and Asia....

For the last two weeks we have driven into a deserted Glades Shopping centre to get food from Marks and Spencer.
After an hour or less we go back to the car via the pay station and pay for our time. When we approach the exit barriers it should lift automatically (ANPR) the barriers but doesn't so have to offer up our ticket to the scanner.
Right having set the scene. After we left, the first week an Amber warning Triangle appeared on my instruments and this was due apparently to a front parking sensor not working. This cleared upon re-starting the car after stopping a traffic light.
This week doing exactly the same thing, upon leaving the car park another Amber warning came up saying that Front Assist was disabled. Again this was cleared after re-starting the engine.
This has never happened with our journeys I make during the day in between our visits to that car park and has never ever happened before using that car park in The Glades.
Do you think there is a fault with the car or is there some interference in that car park now? Read more

I called to check up on the price of an oil change as Kia do not do it at the 1 year 10000 mile service.

Someone posted a while back about the first service on a french car and the extra for an oil change.... Read more

I would be tempted do a suction pump oil extraction with the original filter left in place for the next service. Tried my £10.99 Lidl one a few thousand miles ago and it done pretty well.

Hey all,

New to the forum, need some help please!

I've had a leak in my Insignia (which has today been fixed by the garage) the problem is the back seats are still wet (and mouldy!)

Drying them is a problem, obviously they won't be drying in January's weather.
With lockdown, and a lack of time available for me to do it, I really can't take it on a 2-3 hour drive with all the heaters on.
I also can't really leave it outside the house running - my house is set back from the main road, probably approx. 100 yards, it's at an angle too (i.e the car is to the far left of the house, not directly in front).

Wondered if there were any other tips of advice on how I can dry the car? It's getting mouldier by the day and I also want to dry it out so that I can definitely tell if the leak is fixed or not.

Any help would be great... thanks in advance!

Regards,

A dehumidifier on its own won't work at this time of year. You'll need heat as well and you're unlikely to get much even if the car is parked in the sun. Ideally the temperature in the car needs to be around 30 degrees centigrade to raise the humidity sufficiently.

The OP has already stated the car is some distance from his home, so it looks like he needs to find a friend with a power source.

The Kaiser

This is my first post so apologies if I either post it in the wrong place or inadvertently destroy any forum etiquette. My forum name is actually my car name as it is old and German (ask the kids). The main block of my car has done 240K miles, whilst other parts have done much less and my "new" cylinder head has only done 110K. I had to replace it after the original camshaft wore out at 230K, threw the valve timing out, destroyed a valve and the valve bed at the same time. In the 2 days prior to that happening I noticed a significant turbo lag had developed.

Since the "new" cylinder head was fitted the cold start is awful, sounding like it is back running on the 3 cylinders from the breakdown. After a bit it seems to clear although in idle it misses a beat from time to time.... Read more

You might want to check the N 75 turbo boost valve . This controls the vnt operation. The cold start issue would be a different problem . Could be valve timing ? You mention a new camshaft, is it the correct one ?

Audi has Sport suspension (although I think this isn’t as harsh as S Line suspension?)

Having looked at the A4 Avant last autumn the Sport (despite the name suggesting it would) does not have Sport Suspension as standard. As you say its the S-Line that gets that.

Hi i bought a used 2017 Hyundai i30 1.4t 27.00 from a main dealer about a month ago and the gearbox has always been notchy leading to ponderous gear changes feels like a clutch thing but clutch still bites early. I read quite a bit on world wide forums about problems with either gearbox or clutch problems. Can anyone else confirm these problems and what they usually are?. Like i said i bought it from a main dealer and that's 60 miles away and hoped i would never have to go back there because i got no other transport and the main dealer will just deny any knowledge of "problems' and say it is the way i drive it. So on a second note i actually quite like the car. Where do i stand about taking it back for a refund i know they will make it as difficult as possible for me. If that doesn't work can anyone point me in the direction of a good clutch/gearbox specialist in Wiltshire?. Read more

"..... billionaire Jim Ratcliffe moved to Monaco while also deciding to build his Land Rover successor in France instead of Wales – all after supporting Brexit. " (Private Eye)

I respect people who voted either Leave or Remain, but it is disappointing those businessmen who supported Brexit, such as Mr Jim Ratcliffe, who should be supporting Britain are instead deciding to invest their money in other countries. Why not build those vehicles in Swindon, to make up for lost Honda jobs?

Metropolis.

Not surprised you felt it was like a Ford Mondeo, it is based on the same Ford platform as the mk3 Ford Mondeo, the EUCD platform. If you google the platform it will come up with freelander 2 and contemporary volvos, but going up to 2017ish the Ewok was on what JLR call their D8 platform, which is actually just a heavily revised EUCD platform... Even I would call those things junk.
