Sounds like you have ducked a bullet - However as well as the the hex shaft isn't there a chain involved as well with the balance shaft module/oil pump hex drive which also fails and is noisy before it does!

Simple question, which is best?. Anyone have experience of both?
Doing some early legwork on the Jazz's potential replacement next April and came upon one with dual Xenon's and another with LED. The headlights in the Jazz are, i think just Halogen, and while they are OK, they aren't great. Read more

Many thanks and welcome to the forum.
Out of interest, which country are you in? I don't think the Kia Forte is available in the UK, which is where we're based. Read more
It's possible but he would have to be very stupid to think that those links (even before I deleted them) would be any use as an advert.
I continue to be surprised at the disproportionate amount of worry that spam (a minor irritant, most of which gets deleted automatically) inflicts on some of our number.

Most insurance firms will charge about £25 (sometimes more) for a mid-year change in policy, which will likely negate any saving over that two week period. You have to make some legal arrangement at their normal home address, so I'd speak to your insurer to see what they can do and ask why the premium is so much higher.
To be honest, it's something on my list of things to check when I'm looking to move home, as significantly higher insurance can make a large impact on monthly/annual outgoings. You may want to check what your own premium may be rising to as well so you don't get another shock in a few months' time....
Certainly an interesting assortment.
Not spreading salt in winter has undoubtedly helped. Read more
The Landcrab ute is kinda cool but not keen on the colour, or the matching yellow piping on the seats!.
Good afternoon,
I am thinking of changing the coolant in my car. Does this car have an easily located radiator drain valve to facilitate this procedure? I will ensure the heater is turned on and all airlocks removed during the drain and refill. In addition, I am told to use deionised water as well along with G!3 or equivalent.... Read more

Hi
In the past couple week my brakes haven't worked momentarily shortly after starting the car.... Read more
but also an illustration that ALL intermittent brake faults aren't necessarily due to the master cylinder, so I'm afraid it won't be a very popular explanation.
Whats popular explanation got to do with it, the symptoms given by the OP are the same as has occurred on master cylinders in the past....
Hey all
I’ve narrowed down my hunt for a mid sized SUV with the following requirements:
- Diesel (I do 13-16k miles/year)
- Automatic
- Sat nav, xenon, heated seats
- Approx £15k budget
- Don’t like French, British, Korean or Italian brands
I test drove various models and have narrowed it down to:
- Mazda CX-5
- BMW X1
- BMW X3
- Nissan Qashqai
I’ve been put off by the reliability issues with Qashqai so realistically I think it’s got to be the Mazda or BMW.
Which car from the list would you choose or not choose? I’d really appreciate any advice based on your own experience and not some forum hearsay’s. Thanks! Read more
The French makes were also quite bad in the 70s, maybe not quite as bad but certainly in the same ball park. They somehow managed to avoid obtaining anything like as bad a reputation.
Ironically they as well went on to become some of the most corrosion-resistant cars on the roads. I remember a Car Mechanics article a few years ago where they went around some scrap yards and reviewed the cars. I seem to remember all the French makes came out top, both PSA and Renault all rated far higher than some prestigious makes costing a lot more.
I have been following details in the Haynes manual to test my radiator fan. As detailed in the manual, I unplugged the connector from the coolant temperature sensor and plugged a 150 ohm resistor into the connector to simulate a high coolant temperature so the radiator fan would start. The car engine however would not start! When I plugged the connector back in as normal, the engine started fine. Can anyone tell me why the engine would not start? Is there something else I need to do to make this work? Read more
If you are only testing the fan, why not jumper it directly off the battery? That's what I did recently.
Involving other elements confuses the interpretation, though you might need to test these (e.g. sensor, relay) separately....
These low mileage cars are appreciating at an amazing rate.
I speak regularly to a collector whose pride possession is. 1972 Datsun 240. Z with 18 miles. Just turned down an offer of £88 k as it's worth over £100 k.
He has a complete collection of similar cars including A mini with 26 miles etc.
All need storing and has a full time mechanic in his secret location.
