Hi Folks
I'm in desperate need for some expert help - can anyone!
In short, in March 2017 I purchased a 1litre (petrol) Audi A1 with Hill Start Assist. From the start, when driving in stop/start traffic uphill, the car soon fills with a stinking burning smell, not just a "clutch" type smell, but really rubbery and vile. This is despite the fact I'm using the HSA and driving it normally / not sitting on the clutch.
After experiencing this intermittently 4-6 times (due to the traffic conditions) over 8-9 months, I sent the car to Audi. They've shown that the clutch has "blue-ing" due to overheating, and concluded that this must be to driver miss-use .
HERE'S WHERE I NEED HELP!
I know that I've not miss-used the car. But it's my word against theirs. I've read that Audi A1s have a clutch issue, although not sure if that affects dual-mass clutches only, as (Audi tell me that) my clutch is not dual mass.
A friend of mine who is a 20 experienced mechanic says that other things, eg the HSA could cause it. Audi say they have "checked everything" including the HSA, and nothing else is wrong. However, I know something must be wrong, as I've definitely not miss-used the car/clutch and the fault has happened since new.
Can anyone offer any insight from past knowledge at all?
Thanks in advance :-) Read more

During my current search I've noticed that the Nissan Note offers three alternatives in post 2013 form: two 1.2 petrols, one of which develops just 79 bhp, and what looks like a moderately gutsy diesel engine.
Having never owned a diesel in my life and given the bad publicity for diesels in general, it would be a major culture change for me look at one, let alone buy it.... Read more
Hi,
So after a sudden drop in power and running really rough. I got my codes up and Cylinder 1 was misfiring. I suspected a coil or spark plug had gone, so to test the coils first, I reset the code changed the coil 1 with 3. The car still ran rough but now Cylinder 3 is misfiring, now I have the part which I consider faulty, I decided to try this 'faulty' coil on the cylinder 2. As I suspected, cylinder 2 then started to misfire whilst the other two cylinders ran fine.... Read more
After a baby induced unscheduled stop at Bothwell Services yesterday, it got me wondering which motorway services is the most unused in the UK.
Bothwell has to be a candidate. At 6pm yesterday, we were the only customers, despite the M74 being fairly busy. Other than the car park (which was in near darkness and the surface was worn out to say the least), the facilities were fine if a little dated, and the food from Costa the same as at any other Costa.... It is the same family but they have a local sourcing policy at each. I’ve been slightly out my way three times to go to the Gloucester ones - they are an absolute pleasure to use - even the signage, architecture and layout are so pleasurable and lift ones spirits. The farm shop part is enjoyable to walk around although I noticed probably not too many people buying as much as I do. But then I know I have expensive food tastes! Plus they do a deal normally that gives you money off Petrol (down to within a penny or two off non supermarket prices for fuel. also feel there is a better class of punter at the Gloucester services - more akin to a National Trust property than the average high street. I’d nto be surprised if some make a special trip. (As an aside my parents lived near the M1 when courting and used to go for dinner in the Silver Service Forte restaurant on the bridge at Newport Pagnell services in the mid 1960s.
I do wish other services were like Gloucester. At least a bit.
Boxing Day just gone i changed a wheel for one of my lady neighbours, she had to go to work that night but would had to have driven to the tyre bay next day regardless, it could have been a lot worse, long journey Christmas Day, puncture, no spare, kerching.
IMHO the ball is in the buyers court on this, if the maker won't supply a spare wheel and jack/wheelbrace as a free 'optional extra' after the new car purchase, then walk away and find a manufacturer who will (or at least factor this in when comparing different cars), the same applies if it's a used car you are considering, if it doesn't have a spare but you still want the car make the deal dependant on a suitable spare and kit being supplied or negotiate a further price reduction so you can buy your own, if they won't play ball cheerio is the word you are looking for, hitting them in the pocket works, its the only thing that does.... Hi Fiesta Owner
I think the Goodywears are the best all round tyres I've driven on including my personal cars and 30 years driving various work car 24/7 in all weathers....
Seriously - just look at that horrendous interior! It looks like something out of a 15-year old pickup. The exterior looks much better, but they've obviously scrimped inside and used a design from an old van, which completely ruins the car! Read more
Still far too expensive but I suppose the range is slightly better. A lot of money for a small car with a crap interior. All we need now is the capacity to charge all these electric noddy cars and as a few people live in flats how will they charge their cars overnight? Dangle a cable down 20 odd floors to the car parked round the corner? Not very practical if you don't have a guaranteed parking space.
Happy new year!
I've got a problem, and while I'm fairly sure I'm not being a biff, I just want to check. I'vbe gor a 56 plate 2.2 TDCI Mondeo, and the coolant level is very low (below minimum). I'm trying to drain the coolant system to replace the coolant. MKy haynes manual says there is a coolant drain plug at the bottom of the radiator, but having spent a significant amount of time under the car, I can't seem to find it... Elsewhere I have seen that Ford may have deleted the drain as the coolant was supposed to last for the life of the car.... Read more
I used to syphon some out every year (into a yoghurt pot) and pop it in the freezer (-20c). If that came out liquid after an overnight stay, I assumed it would handle anything our climate could throw at it.
They only drawback to that is it doesn't check the corrosion inhibitor aspect of the stuff. I've learned lately (and experienced) that the corrosion inhibitors can 'settle out', particularly in thermo-syphon systems, leaving a sludge that can block the cooling system. As most cars have had water pumps in the last hundred years, this aspect isn't likely to bother many.
hi why is it taking 4miles for my heater to get warm on my 2015 fabia auto 1.2 5000ml petrol Read more
Because the engine block has to warm up before it will start providing heat to the cabin.

Hi
I realise this was months ago, I have the same issue. Just wondered if this problem was sorted by swapping Haas for OE Ignition Coils?
