I recently bought a set of LED lights to improve the look of the car. I first bought a cheap pair from halfords and after fitting them they came on for 3 seconds then went off and didn't come on again until I switched the engine off and back on again then it does the same thing, on for 3 seconds then off?
After a quick look online I found out that I need ones with their own resistors and heat sinks built in. I went back to halfords and bought some more that had those specs, fitted these and yet again they came on and went off after about a minute, only this time they went off and never came back on. I presume they burnt out or something? ... Read more

How long will the DSG and engine last in that? Read more
It is a shame that Skoda doesn't have access to the full VAG engine range: a Superb with the Audi V6 diesel would be quite something, I think.
No point in Audi if they did that.

This guy from Ebay helped cut and program a new key for me. He had some trouble connecting to the car computer and burnt some wiring ( around the ignition coils)in the process of trying to do something. He changed the wiring and said everything was okay and left. Now the oil pressure light is flashing. I changed the oil 4 months ago and the level is fine. I changed the oil pressure switch just in case but that made no difference. Now sometimes the headlight blue beam comes on its own and won't go off even if the car is turned off and locked. what could be the problem here please? Read more
I really can,t understand what has been done here. The correct procedure is to order a remote key fob and blade cut to car vin number for around £150,from VW dealer.you then get somebody to programme it via the diagnostic system .Takes around 20 mins.Total cost ,just over £200 job done ,no tools required and no need to open the bonnet.Where did the burnt wiring come from?

I ask as every news report about some muppet stacking it at this time year generally states something similar to "The car left the road".
So far my car has done only anything I tell it to do. And even then it makes a lousy cup of tea. Read more
The easiest way to learn about grip and feel is to ride a motorbike through a winter, even a modern bike will be an education to most car drivers. Skid pans are a good idea in theory but I think are more a bit of fun than serious education, too much playing with rear drive and oversteer when most cars are fwd and grip limits and speeds so low that the snap back when the slide stops is anything but realistic. I'm old enough to have driven rwd escorts and Vivas but for all the fun me and my mates had in them we did crash a lot! I'm much happier knowing my boys have abs, esp etc even if it's not as much fun.
Strong rumbling noise resembling a bad wheel hub bearing, it apeared slowly and got worser, it does not seem to be in tune with engine and is also there when clutched out. It can go a bit up and down also when driving very steady. I was sure it would be a wheel hub bearing, but there was no movement. Since there was a slight gritty sound when turning front right wheeel I started by changing the hub bearing there. I didnt change anything, apart from making the abs light coming on. The tyres has been changed so not from there either, and anyway to strong for that.

All I could suggest is go to a garage and get them to check this.
If it were in to me I'd put it up on the two post lift with someone in it and get it running and inger so the wheels are spinning then use my mechanics stethoscope and listen around to pin point where it's loudest....
Any one know if I can do something about this or do I need to put it in for a bigger job like clutch replacement?
My first car, had it about 6 months and the biteing point is at the very top of releasing the clutch pedal, it also feels a little stiff at the gear stick when changing gears like it's getting stuck/caught. How ever most of the comments online in related posts talk about slipping the clutch when it's knackered mine has not done this yet at all, I've even been able to pull away from parked in 3rd gear even tho it was a struggle, 2nd gear pulls away ok. There does seem less power or takes longer to get up speed than it use to example on coming onto a roads / motorways.
Bought it with 23k on the clock now it's done almost 26k. Could I have burned out the clutch in under 3k miles. It's not like I ride the clutch often or sit in traffic as my travel consists mostly at night when the roads are clear.
Should I use Halfords clutch check as it's free? Can I look myself? Read more
Its not a car i'm familiar with but don't these things have internal slave cylinders built into the clutch release bearing, a brillant (not) bit of design for if the slave cylinder plays up, and i am sure i have read these do, then instead of 20 minutes swapping an external slave its gearbox out time instead.
If it were mine i'd get recommendations for a reliable indy garage and ask them to have a poke nose.
A warning to all, be careful about drink driving especially over Christmas and the Police are out there checking on drivers.
