Given the changes to VED next April, is anyone contemplating buying a new car before then specifically to lock in the zero or low rate bands which will disappear for new cars?
Am in 2 minds myself, as all my present cars are still going well and I usually run them into the ground, before buying new replacements to get max value. The Alhambra tdi is over 18 years old and costs an very unfair 235 a year in ved, I only do about 4k a year in it now, but really attached to it and would be a shame to scrap such a versatile and economical (50 mpg) vehicle for peanuts but the annual tax/mot/repairs/maintenance is more than I spend on diesel!! ... I purchased a car on eBay once and the gearbox exploded on me as I drove home. The seller blamed me for over revving. I was young and naive to my options available, after an emotional exchange I had to suck it up and buy another. I have brought a new car now specifically for my bad experiences over used so I am happy to have found this article for future.. thanks! Read more

The Grundig name was actually sold off. Any product "wearing" the Grundig name has nothing to do with the Grundig company at all.
This chap see's a friend in town that he hadn't seen since school & comments that he'd have known him anywhere. Frankly, the eyesight/opthalmology requirements for driving are woefully low
My consultant had previously told me that the sight in my Glaucoma affected eye still meets the DVLA requirements but I am not sure if I would be happy driving with that standard of vision in both eyes....
OK I need some help here, please. When I bought the Auris I was offered a 2 year extension of 5 year warranty of the car. I told the car salesman that I had had problems with warranties before and that I was not interested. I was then told that this was an extention to the original warranty of the car and it was underwritten by Toyota. I was tempted by this and again made sure that it was `Toyota` warranty. I then paid £500 for the 2 year warranty. Now this warranty is advertised on the Toyota website and the whole thrust of the blurb is that your are buying a Toyota product. I therefore assumed that the 2 year extension is `seemlessly` tacked on to the original 5 year warranty. Hence if any fault occured it would be treated as if the car was under the orginal warranty. Well when I had had the car a few months an intermittent fault occurred with the horn. I took it back and they could not find the fault. The horn worked for a few months and the fault reoccurred. I rang the garage up and arranged for the horn to be repaired when I bought the car in for its MOT and servicing. This time they found a fault in the horn (but it still past the MOT!?)
The situation now is that because I originally reported the fault the fault some months ago it has not `failed` but has malfunctioned due to wear and tear. Thus I have to pay £40 for a new horn. Now my gripe is that the Toyota warranty I bought does not seem to tack onto the orginal warranty but is, in fact, subject to separate conditions. I mean, can I presume that if the horn had failed during the 5 year period of the orginal warranty it would have been replaced by a new horn? If this is the case then this warranty is no better than any other warranty. Have I got the wrong end of the stick. I have now lost all faith in the product and feel like instigating a complaint. Thanks for any help. Read more
This part is definately covered by the extended warranty. I should know, I deal with them every day..
Looking at a used q5 and 24.10 is painted on underside of bonnet in white. Very visible-near the front. Should I worry? Looks like a date-possibly auctioned?- but worry it is a part number or something and evidence of undeclared accident and repair. Can't see anything else suggesting this-paint seems to match etc but Has anyone seen this
Can't work out how to post a photo of it which would be helpful-is it possible?
Thanks-appreciate the help

Been informed, via Ford main dealer, that vehicle requires a replacement engine due to head gasket issue[ 50000 miles]. I have read up on the issues with these engines, including the ones on this forum...I am considering the legal route, and believe that a 'class action' would add weight to a claim against Ford. So get in touch if you are in a simular position [Graham Bartholomew please make contact]... Read more
There's another recent thread on this same topic which you might find useful - it may be on the next page.
The only cars paying an ongoing current rate over £285 are those registered between 2006-2017 with emissions exceeding 225 g/km - a low number of mainly luxury or high performance car for which costs are relatively unimportant.
The difference in VED for cars in groups G-K (151-225 g/km) compared to the £140 flat rate will be just £35-145 - enough to influence new car sales but will have little effect on used prices....
