Just been reading an article in another on line car mag and it was on the new Bentley 4x4. What struck me actually was how dirty the factory workers clothes were. You would never see that in a Honda factory (who mandate white overalls to show the dirt and enforce a change) let a lone something like a Lexus factory. Are the Bentley workers and managers not proud of what they do ? Read more

I saw a similar thing in the Aston factory when I visited. Their rework rates were terrible - it made me think that is probably why their cars are so expensive! In fairness I think they were looking to spend big on a new paint line but I did see a hell of a lot of sanding back, correcting and repolishing - they had a separate line just to fix paint problems.

You know, those thin strips of leds that swipe to the left or the right. Now infecting other VAG brands.

My votes for the best-ever car indicators go to the big "smiley" indicators of the Lexus 400 and the original Sunderland Nissan Primera, although the all time champion flashers must surely be the wing-mounted units on the original VW Beetle: high up, visible both front and side and unmistakeably orange!

Or DS, MK1 Focus....

does anyone else out there with this type of vehicle keep getting over charged by the dartford crossing automatic system as I have for the last 2 years and after many direct complaints they still continue to do it

I had a similar problem many years ago on a road tunnel in France - I think it was the Mont Blanc tunnel - I considered the car fell into a lower price band, but the tunnel authorities did not agree and got out a tape measure to prove their point. They won, I lost. (If you don't ask, you'll never get!)

I was driving in dense fog last night on a motorway and couldn't believe the number of people who overtook me at much higher speeds. My speed varied between 50mph and 65mph depending on how bad the visibility was. There were times when I felt that my speed was relatively high for the visibility and people would fly past at 80+mph. In good conditions, 80mph is illegal, but in dense fog it's just crazy!

If visibility is so poor that you need your fog lights on, then visibility clearly isn't good enough for 80mph! Do people just think it's safe because they have their fog lights on? Read more

GB I think you worry too much, modern tech I know, most people do not like on motors, but I have found has come in handy once or twice.

collision mitigation system that some motors have, actually prevented me getting a written off car, sundridge ave bromley has a mini roundabout which one exit goes into a blind steep hill,as you come to the roundabout you can only see one car waiting(if there is any) the rest are open....

I own a 2006 Ford ka with a Duratec engine. In the very cold weather about 4 weeks ago I started the vehicle and drove it about 200 yards when I noticed the temperature reading indicator on the dashboard was lit up red. I turned round and coaxed it back at low speed thinking it was probably frozen as I had not put ant antifreeze in it. when the weather warms up a little I checked for leaks (there was no obvious leaks) put in a quality antifreeze and topped up the oil.

I used the car to do a couple of short journeys and all seemed well.... Read more

Possible lack of coolant flow due to thermostat or radiator problem. The temp sensor switch is situated in the engine, the warning light and the rad fan are operated from this.Check that when the cooling fan starts,it is actually sucking hot air through the rad.

Hi all, i am looking to replace my 53 plate 722.6 gearbox with a second hand unit from Ebay. There seem to be lots of variants eg 722.695, 722.618 etc. Does anyone know which one i need as there seems to be no continuity between the models. I was going for one in the same year class as mine. Am i correct in assuming that all 722.6 boxes will fit but the last two digits are updates and only concern if ordering parts for them.

Getting the exact match gearbox can be a real challenge on these. Then you need to consider if the electronic bits will be compatable. What is wrong with your gearbox,is it not fixable?

Has anybody seen the article in the Daily Mail online this morning ? This is easily do-able, but can only work if they disable the passenger's mobile as well. I won't be holding my breath whilst so much profit stands to be lost by the companies.

My suggestion is that if an individual is caught using a phone whilst driving--then his or her car insurance is assumed to be immediately invalid for 24 hours or untill such time as the driver re-contacts his insurance company. Thus as well as a fine and points-the driver will have the indignity of seeing their vehicle immediately towed away and impounded until new insurance with appropriate documentation is available which satisfies the authorities.

After a new battery was fitted three weeks ago I found the instrument

cluster illumination still on when ignition was switched off. Having no access now to a Seat dealer I had a diagnostic check by a local garage which could not find a solution but mentioned that this was not an uncommon fault as revealed by online forums.... Read more

I would try a battery disconnect for 5 mins ,to see if that resets the system. If not,you could try pulling the dash/instrument fuse .Permanent illumination will evetually kill the battery if the car is not used on a regular basis.
