My son recently had an accident and ran into the back of a car with a tow bar.

I`ve just picked the car up today having had the bodywork repaired , a new radiator , grill , bumper beam etc.... Read more

Following earlier advice , The support beam had pushed in the CAT on impact and dented/damaged it. I`ve had the CAT and full exhaust replaced at a cost of £500.

Thanks for helping.

Hi, just bought this car (1999) and I love it! Two niggles though,

The windscreen washer pump is audible but nothing is coming out of the jets. Have had a poke around but nothing obvious. Is it common for the pump to fail but still make a noise as if its working?... Read more

The washer problem could be a blocked strainer in the bottom of the water reservoir.Access needs removal of driver wheel and plastic stone guard. As for the rear door, could be wear or stickiness in the latch mechanism not allowing enough throw to open. Good car,the E39.In many ways more reliable than later models.

Skidpan's guessing game as to his new car was good fun, so let's have another.

We've come to realise that SWMBO's Mini Cooper Roadster, good car that it is in its own right, isn't ideal for what we need it for in semi-retirement in Dorset. What we need now for a second car is:... Read more

It's difficult .... couple of months ago I test drove the Peugeot 308, I too did not like the way the touch screen operated, much prefer one touch buttons that can be adjusted by reaching out the arm and knowing where they are without having to look and check what is being done .... but the 308 does come with a proper spare wheel, and two rear foglights / reversing lights not singles that do half the job and look stupid .....

Hi,

I am looking at a motorhome at the moment and have done some background checks. The vehicle is advertised as 67,500 miles but when I look on the MOT History gov.uk site it is listed as 103,000 miles? I queried this with the dealer and he explained that odometer is reading 103,000 KM (it is an import) and if you convert 103,000km to Miles = 67,500.... Read more

It won't be free. Most likely be done on year of manufacture so maybe £235 for vehicles over 1549cc?

You want cash, you go to an international standard hole in the wall, but if you want to park , a university degree is needed to read the convoluted options, timings and instructions written on decaying paint in council car parks, stations and street sign throughout the land.Yes of course we must pay for parking so why the hell not make it SIMPLE and SMOOTH ?

A sad looking local car park machine with it's steamed up perspex window had a major queue the other morning due to vandalism (a machine smash and grap?-someone desperate for a few £s!), with an attached long dreary TYPED epistle from a council jobsworth encouraging users to pay by other methods, one of which was to ring the authority and ask for extension 12345--ha ha...fat chance of a reply from that at 07.15 in the morning.... Last week I looked at parking near Old street underground and although it said you can pay by phone or by texting a number that was on the sign, there was no indication of the cost to park there at all.

Is it me or are most of the 'agony collumn' questions increasingly concerning German-made cars, particularly BMWs, Audis and VWs (especially the Tiguan)? So much for German engineering quality... Read more

Re New Zealand car hire.

I hired a car from Apex Car Rentals for a week. I took the zero excess option and also the older car option.. The car was a Toyota Camry 2.4 automatic. The car had dull paint and few small dents and scratches, however it drove well, was clean and everything worked, it also cost a lot less to hire than a new car would have.
Because it had a zero excess there were no surprises waiting for me after returning home.

I would recommend them.

In October 2015 I took out a 3+35 lease on a new Audi A8, paying ca. £580/month for it. I expected life to continue as normal until the end of the lease in October 2018, but unfortunately my Australian wife is homesick, and so we're going to have to emigrate to Adelaide in January 2017. So I've spoken to Audi about ending the lease early, and they say to exit the lease I must pay £8,300-Ouch!... If I have to pay this to hand back the car then OK, but I don't honestly know if I have any other legal options - I don't expect Audi to tell me if I do.

Does anyone have a view on this? If so, thanks...... Read more

Hi, hopefully I can provide you with an authoratitive response on this as we do these agreements on a daily basis for our customers.

Firstly, it sounds like you have a Contract Hire Agreement, not a Contract Lease Agreement (the agreement probably says 'Leasing Agreement (Contract Hire)' across the top (there is a difference and it matters if anyone thinks I'm being a pedant)....

This is well worth a read: Russell Bulgin's classic 1991 article from Car Magazine about trying to hit the Lotus Carlton's 176mph maximum speed on the German autobahn.

I have a confession. I owned a Lotus Carlton for a year.

Chuffin hilarious, and nowhere near as hard to drive as all the journalists reckoned...

It seems quite common for the car insurer and Gap insurer to disagree initially - forcing the owner into action to get a result.

Usually a sign at each end of the School in the direction of traffic flow,ie, going toward the school there is a flashing sign, as you come to the other side should be a standard speed limit sign

Not that you can do 20mph during Children entering or leaving School, too many 10 point turners around
