The turbo on my Peugeot 407 2.0 hdi had not been working, but on checking the vac hoses discovered a broken connector , I replaced this and got the turbo working again, but it's not perfect , in certain rev ranges , and gears , the turbo doesn't spin up properly, it will spin up then fall back, then spin back up again , fall back , and then usually the third time when engine speed has picked up will hold it and spin up properly, it doesnt happen from first or second gear. Don't know if it's possible this is anything to do with the turbo solenoid? Read more

With drivers having been prosecuted for not being in proper control of their vehicles for exapmle, eating an apple whilst stopped at traffic lights, and similar, I wonder what the situation would be for an over-eager constable who spotted a driver parking with hands off the steering wheel using parking assist? One cannot have two sets of rules surely? The driver is either in control, or not! What do you think, or know? Read more

I would have thought that a driver using an inbuilt system in the car which is under his control would be fine. I believe it is like Cruise Control, if you touch anything concerning the park assist it switches off. Surely ABS and Traction Control fall into this category. Are you in control or not??

Interesting question. Been living here for over 2 years now and not even seen a policeman yet, so the chances of me being caught by a zealous one or otherwise are remote. Cheers Concrete

In this day and age, is it still possible to wind back the mileometer reading or syphon fuel from the fuel tank?

My car was at a dealer for over a week for warranty repairs with enough fuel for about 200miles.... Read more

Just had a reply from the Service Manager who states that it was necessary to leave the car idling for some time.

What rot! I'd expect a modest diesel to burn a little less than 1 litre an hour. As you say they'd have to leave it idling an awful long time. Go in and face him off if he won't answer the phone to you....

I have a 2010 Audi A3 1.8 TFSI that was purchased privately in December.

I did have a local mechanic (clickmechanic) perform a check of the car prior to the purchase and all was good.... Read more

Regardless of mileage-Audi recomend a cambelt change every 4 years. I assume you have specific evidence that this was done over and above a service book stamp?

I am very grateful for the advice I have received here from those who know far more about cars than I do.

I run a 2004 x-type, 157k miles. I trust it to my local indy, always with the instruction 'do what do what needs doing, call me if the bill will be more than the car is worth'.... Read more

Avant - thanks for your comments, appreciated.

I had a long chat with my son about this - he is a contemporary and friend of my Indy. My son ran a succession of cheapo 'bangers' and in the past the Indy was very good - finding the cheapest 'fixes' and even being happy to fit a cheap clutch pack bought via the internet (with the usual caveats, of c0urse)....

Hello,

I purchased my insurance in Late June, i think in July/Aug annoyingly i recieved my first speeding conviction - SP50 - for driving at 72mph at 01:30AM on a motorway in a temporary 50mph. NO works were being done at that time of the morning but hey. I understand i did wrong. I took the 3 points and fine but completely forgot to add the conviction to my insurance.

A couple months back i was involved in a non fault accident and my car goes in to be fixed on friday. ... Read more

Not necessarily. When I declared mine it made only a slight difference....

Hello, Can anyone advise whether the citroen c3 2007 model is a good one? I am a new driver (aged 50), looking for something fairly small, but I do need reasonable space for passengers in the back, as I will usually have 2 nearly teenagers sitting in the back.

Thanks very much. Read more

would that mean the service engineer should have installed shocks to both the rear within extended warranty?

Don't know - can't say because you haven't told us how old or how many miles your car is. Neither do I know specifically what Honda's policy is in this area, or what your warranty t's & c's are....

The local paper today tells us one car in the area has had over 100 parking tickets, owes the council almost £9000, yet the council claims they can't find the keeper to send enforcers to collect the cash. It seems there are similar cases elsewhere of hundreds of tickets per car amounting to thousands of pounds.

DVLA must have records of the last keeper, if he failed to notify them who he sold it to he was liable to a fine anyway for that omission.... Read more

It's simple. I sell you a car and you tell me your name is John Smith. I fill the V5 in and send it off. John Smith never fills in any paper work!

Laim councils full will know the process for removing such a car and it should only take 2 weeks anf a few bits of paper....
