Hello, took my astra to a main dealer for a recall, which included Apply wax to fuel cap Wiring on cooling fan Reprogram, which I'm guessing is a software update Picked the car up and noticed the car now pulls to one side and I have the car skidding symbol up and service esp in notification window. Took it back to the garage, they said it's can't be anything we have done and sent me on my way. Any ideas?? Read more
The service warning comes on about 500 mi after being reset. My service garage and a Skoda dearler have both tried to resolve the problem, without success. I now do not bother to get it re-set and ignore the ping and spanner warning sign, with INSP that comes up whenever the engine is started.
The car is due for an annual service in the near future and I would like to be able to make other suggestions to the garage. Read more
Have both the time and mileage been reset.?these systems can get confused.I would leave it to the next service or don,t worry about it.Best to make your own assessment when a service is due.
I'm trying DOT3 as a carb cleaner right now and it seems very effective, though it might have been an idea to soak test on some expendable aluminium and brass before going "Live".
Since its not designed for this use, I can't rule out lurking gotcha's, but advantages include:-... Read more

The wife's looking for a new car (new job with quite a lot of driving). I've bought from auction in the past and was really pleased with what I got. In truth, I'll probably never get her to buy from auction, but have noticed a really nice looking 2015 Merc E350 coming up that would be ideal for her. However, it's mileage (9475) is listed in the catalogue as "incorrect". I don't think I'll go anywhere near it now, but am struggling to believe that anyone would clock such a new car. What do you guys think? Read more
I bought a low mileage 2011 E350 last year. Before I did so, I went into the local Merc dealer with the reg no. They were very helpful and gave me all the details of the service history. So I would do that and sdee what they say. It would be very silly to clock such a new car if it has been into the dealers for servicing, as the history is all held centrally. My car was serviced in Stoke, but the dealer I went to was in Manchester.
If the car is 'right' then great and I can tell you that it is simply lovely!
I went to a CarGiant and started up a Ford Mondeo 1.6 (2012) with 15,000 on the clock. However, the engine sounded gruff, it was the same story on a Vauxhall Insignia 1.6? (2012). On a Mazda 1.8 (2012), when I reved up the engine, the car seat would vibrate. All were petrol engines.
I also sat in a Mercedes C180 2012, and when I hit the gas, I could feel the exhaust and vibration in the cabin. It was better then the above. ... Read more

All engines are gruff except 6 and 12 cyl. And even Porsche's flat jobs sound like a Duracell bunny in a biscuit tin. Cross plane V8s are the worst - many bhp are wasted trying to keep the NVH at bay - unless you actually like the noise....
The car is an 06 plate CDTI 2.2 L diesel. Owned for 8 years. A month ago the alternator was replaced because of a mechanical issue. The new alternator was fine but now the battery light is flashing on for a few seconds. That has happened several times during local trips. I have run with all electrical items on but still only intermittant and short period when the light comes on. I need to do a 400 mile trip and worried about reliability. The battery indicates fully charged but has never been replaced by myself. The engine starts immediately from cold. Any ideas or suggestions would assist. Read more

Hi,
I have experienced some judder through the steering wheel in recent weeks under braking, most noticably when braking from higher speeds. I saw another thread published by D M Johnson on the 18th July 2015 complaining of a similar problem. Would you have any fresh thoughts on what might be causing the juddering.... Read more

Browsing on line at a half decent looking low mileage VW Golf -for sale, via a dealer -with the numberplate visible the other day-I spotted a six year old model with 38,000 total-approx on the clock. Checking the MOT history site--I noted the car had passed it's last 4 MOT's with only one or two minor advisables.
" Goodo" ,I thought and read on....... Read more
"Steering rack starting to leak" is an advisory I've had. It seems to me that it's leaking or it's not leaking, so it begs the question "At what time during the test did it start to leak?" It's all a bit nonsensical.

Straight ahead calibration may have been lost - does the car start to pull above a certain speed?
On another point Vauxhall programmed a spare key for my car and managed to goose the traction control system and it would kick in when load was put on the engine. Completely unrelated and I couldn't understand how they did it. It was fixed without question
