I wish to have my DSG fluid change. The dealer has said that its a later version box - 7 speeddry clutch - sealed for life, as apposed to a wey clutch. My personal opinion is sealed for life = later in life gear box rebuild. My local VW independent also said "its sealed fro life sir". Question should I have it changed or not;and, can it be changed. is it tru that this DSG fitted on the mark 7 only hold 1.7 litres of fluid? Read more
Hi, can anyone please help, im at the end of my tether. last year my fan belt started making screeching noises, then just before Christmas the belt broke, we got it replaced then a few days later the new one started screeching too, we tried lubricants etc, to no avail. Then the car started to lose power so the battery was checked and it was fine, so we were told it was probably the alternator. So we got a second hand one put in and for two days it worked fine, then the screeching started again and the again ther battery wouldnt charge. the garage said the alternator wasnt working, so we got a new alternator and for 2 days it worked fine, then the screeching was back, so the garage said it can only be the water pump now, so replaced it free for us, ive just picked it up from the garage and less than a mile down the road the screeching has started again. mechanic has just said hes tested everything and it seemed fine so he is completely baffled..... I bought this car from a garage this time last year and enjoyed last summer with it covering 3500 miles or so. The garage had serviced the car and told me that it would not need doing for two years. The car was in storage since last October and was run occaisionly. Unfortunately when I went to start it this morning the battery was very low and needed a jump start to get the engine running. The car is great except that every time I put the ignition on it warns me that it needs a service now. Does anyone know how I can reset this please? Regards. Read more
Thanks Chris. I will look at this. Regards.

Hi
The front lighting display of the unit has not been working for some time. The radio works and I can control it through the steering buttons. ... Read more
These radios are not an economic repair. So really your best option is a s/hand unit.
"Avoid this car dealership like the plague, their lies are all over their website."
This is how the post started, and I have had enough of this sort of thing. You name and shame the dealer, clearly not having bothered to read the naming-and-shaming policy (which is on a permanent thread above), nor stopping to think that accusing a business of lying opens us up to potential legal action for defamation.... You've complained, they have responded.
Your only option now appears to be a 7 day letter before action - plenty of examples on the web, with a subsequent Moneyclaim and possible Court appearance if they don't pay up....
Recently, I had the unfortunate luck of being involved in a small bump.
I was in a local Retail Car Park pulling out of a typical small junction (left turn), my right was clear as a vehicle was turning into the same junction. ... Read more

At a road junction marked with a broken white line and a give way sign or a triangle on the road, joining traffic MUST give way to traffic from the right....
The issue: the speedometer started dropping off and did this occasionally, replaced speed sensor, well actually entire gearbox as sensor was a pig to get out and knackered other bits.
Then it kept doing it, it got worse and started dropping off for minutes and then miles and miles, odometer would then read ------- and engine management light comes on. Had cluster checked and issues sorted, but no issues with speedometer... Problem still exits, checked and cleaned up earth points... Issue still there.
It has the usual issues, stereo fading, and a bit jerky at slower speeds and low revs, has never cut out on me, but has a slight reduction in power, but barely noticeable...
All the usual issues have been explored, even to the point of trying a number of speed sensors, just incase one was faulty....
Help me... This is beyond a joke now, in my 10 mile trip to work, I am normally without a speedo for 5 miles of that... I need a soloution to this problem, as nothing suggested on the forums has fixed it so far!!

Cluster has been checked over by a specialist and sorted out. It has completely died now, however there is no reduction in performance or shuddering at low revs.... Could this be a result of a failure between the ECU and the speedo cluster... A loose wire between the two??
I very much like a nearly new Focus Titanium X estate being sold at a local Motorpoint dealership. The car has the optional 18" wheels with low profile tyres.
Three of the tyres are good, Michelin. The fourth is a Vredenstein, same size, but glaringly diffrent (deeply grooved diaganol tread lines) tread.... Read more
I wouldn't worry about it unduly. Any differences in the tyre characteristics will be small and extremely unlikely to cause any issu in normal driving.
In this case though, I would put the two best matching tyres on the rear. The mismathced tyes will therefore wear out the quickest at the front and you can get two new tyres the same at the next purchase point (remembering to put the new tyres on the back of course).
Hi thinking about part exchanging my car as i need something a little smaller, but the timing belt is due replacement, do you think i should get it done prior to this so i am not knocked down on price?

Ok cool, yes i was going to tell the truth if asked, and no doubt it would be as i always ask when buying, but was just wondering if i changed it myself the £80 somewhat £ to the cost of them knocking of £200.
Cheers for all your reply's sorry i need to set up email notification.
Draw a paint line across the two halves of the pulley with a white paint pen (or tip ex). Get it to 'screech for a few seconds and then see if the two halves of the line are no longer aligned. This should confirm if it's the pulley.
Many years ago I suffered a broken woodruf key on the crank pulley of a Rover V8. This meant the pulley was spinning on the crank. Partial drive was maintained by the pulley bolt and it too screeched when it slipped. Luckily I was able to induce slip at idle by putting a heavy load on the alternator and so could see what was going on with the aid of a Gunsons timing strobe....
