Not sure about anyone else, but that is ringing alarm bells for me....

Will people now seek compensation if this is the case?

Or as I said 'fail' it and you can't use your car on the road or TAX it. The smoke Opacity test is the only test we currently do on diesels here in the UK.

What has removing DPF's got to do with the subject of VW cheat software ?...

Someone close to me bought a van, insured it and used it for 10 months or so, the van needs scrapping so i said i would help.

i asked them for the V5, they dont have it, all they have is the sellers/buyers slip.... Read more

Warning

"Alternatively, set fire to it and ask a scrap firm to collect it for free - make sure you don't set fire to anything else"

I sometimes wonder, why people do stupid things. Yeah 'some bloke' on the internet told me to set it on fire!

I see a question today on this on Ask HJ.

I have solved slow seat belts in old cars by pulling out the belts to their full extent and spraying with a silicon aerosol. I think it was recommended by a backroomer a few years ago. Anyway worth a try before replacing the belts or paying a garage. Read more

I heard of this tip years ago, except then it was suggested furniture polish was applied to a cloth and then sparingly applied to the belt.

Silicone spray is better - makes less mess of your clothes!

Been looking at the launch of the "3" and like it. In the flesh rather appealing.

I must say I've been more impressed with the Murai fuel cell powered car rather than just plain battery. The biggest killer with all of these technologies is infrastructure, or where can I fill the car up. In the case of the hydrogen cell car a full tank in a minute with a 350 mile range per fill up, but you have to find a filling station that can cater first.

I purchased my 2.5dci 171 Pathfinder Sport in March 2015 from a local dealer.

6 months later the clutch went, the vehicle did have a tow bar so I put it down to bad luck, the garage would not pay towards the replacement and were in no way apologetic.... Read more

These Pathfinders are trouble and when the mileage reaches about 95000 miles they start to fall apart. Best to sell it before you start spending a lot of money on this.

Hi everyone looking for abit of help my car failed it's MOT on emissions, on a high lambda reading to be exact, the car had a fault code when tested p0170 the MOT results are CO 0.00% HC 8PPM on both idle and high idle and lambda is 1.16 the car recently had done thermostat and CTS ,air filter, oil and filter spark plugs, a genuine 02 Sensor and a genuine Maf, and also some suspension work ( tie rods and anti roll bar links) since changing the MAF the car feels more responsive and the code has gone away I changed this after the last MOT test I was just wondering could this be why I failed the MOT before I rebook it

And sorry I forgot to add all the suspension work was done after the nct because they were also the bits it failed on.

Yes--the new state pension seems to be a difficult one to understand with many anomalies. BUT the one complaint I keep reading about more than anything is from those who have contracted out of "serps" wailing and gnashing that they will not be getting the full new state pension amount of £155 after their 35 years of contributions. Surely with their second pension (company pension?) plus their lower due state pension-the two pensions together should well exceed the £155 figure? That's the deal.

It is those who get the £155 and not contributed to anything else over 35 years who should be worried. Read more

If "SWMBO" wants to qualify for the higher rate she needs to be in the age bracket that has to wait longer to claim it. Those due the higher pension are having to wait longer to receive it. "SWMBO" may not have the higher rate but she did retire ealier, unlike me I have to wait until I am 67.

Must be nice to have a pension at age 60. Stop moaning.

On my pathetic speakers I didn't hear that metallic rattle, so can you answer Leckie's question please. I think I follow his thinking, might be a slight rattle coming from the gearbox. My own box rattles at idle and I treat it to a MTF change every 30k and it's been fine for the last 60k (a 6 speed F40 GM 'box handling 270hp/370Nm from a tuned Saab B207R).

Try some Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle:
www.castrol.com/en_gb/united-kingdom/products/cars...l
I tried some Torco first, but my 'box really seems to like that Castrol (popular in Scoobies too apparently)
