i have a 2005 peugeot 206 1.4 hdi around 180.000 kms. recently, the engine started to run very noisy and extremely vibrating/shaking, some kind of rapid ticking sound comes out of it (from the timing belt side i guess?). it totally gives me headaches on long trips. i've diagnosed the car 3 times at bosch services and other services and the device showed no errors or malfunctions. the problem gets more severe after long running times and high revs. several mechanics told me various things like,

it is okay nothing to worry with,... Read more

To be honest it may sound a bit loud but it sounds to be running okay

What's the history like ? has it been serviced regular ? when was the last time the timing belt was changed ? does it start easily ? does it run okay and is the fuel economy any good ?...

I've developed a new problem with my polo. The gear selects and engages but the revs rise rapidly and provide no power to the drivetrain about 2500rpm as if my foot is on the clutch. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm assuming this is a 'slipping clutch' problem? Does anyone know roughly how much this would cost to repair in high wycombe area. The car is 2005 91k miles so getting worried it may be more than value of the car. Read more

Thanks for the info. It's a petrol. Hopefully it will be as close to £400 as possible.

Citroen Surf Bus

The speedo was dead when I bought the van, so I bought a new sensor.(which is mounted on the gearbox, there is no cable)

Now the needle waves wildly between 0 and 100mph! (And the odometer continues clocking up the miles - fast!)... Read more

Blast from the past..... I know it's been 6 years but this is the first I've seen of someone else with this problem! I don't have the speed issue (yet?) But my mileage clocks up when when not moving, approx a mile every 4 seconds. Did you ever narrow down the cause? Cheers

Isn't there another route here? The car was provided with a new MOT, if I'm reading this correctly? Immediately afterwards, the car was inspected and found to have dangerously defective tyres and a range of other obvious failure issues. The OP states that this certificate was provided by a 'separate MOT centre', who presumably like many others are slapping worthless certificates on anything this dealer sends their way. What are the legal sanctions for being caught doing that?

Perhaps the OP could approach the test centre, with evidence of the later inspection, and ask whether they would consider a, ahem, "goodwill gesture" towards some of the costs as a mutually acceptable way of compensating for their "oversights" whilst carrying out the MOT? Unless of course they'd prefer a visit from the authorities and a bit of local press coverage. Alternatively, you could approach the dealer with the same proposition and let the pair of them think it over. How many other dodgy motors do they churn out between their two businesses?

Hi I have seen this problem before but not really seen a satisfactory answer so please can someone help!!

The car wont start, central locking fine, doors open on keys, ignition powers up, radio lights, etc everything works, but turn the key and nothing, the starter motor does not turn over ( seems to be a light click / ticking? In passenger compartment) the battery is good, fully charged and no current drop) I've checked fuses ( think it's the 2x 10 amp in fuse box in engine compartment, in fact checked all fuses and they seem ok with AVO meter!) It's done this before and on one occasion I needed to replace fuse on other occasion it just started working again, now nothing, but it bump starts and runs fine. I don't think it's the starter motor because it has been turning over fine before. It seems like a dry or broken connection or fuse box fault, what can I check and test? chassis number Vf3wc8hzc9e058847 Read more

Approx 4 months ago the Engine Management light came on. My usual service garage changed the air filter and all was well for a short period. A new "compatible sensor was installed. The light, not much later, came on--a replacement compatible sensor was installed--this too came on. I then needed an MOT which failed on "emissions". A genuine Mazda sensor was installed. The car passed the MOT. The light came back on. I had it checked on a diagnostics machine--the light went of for 2 miles then came on again. My garage had the car for an entire day but was unable to give me an answer from the diagnostic tests. They are now going to use an oscilloscope to try and reach a conclusion. So far there seems to be no particular reason for the light being on. Anyone with any ideas. I'm really puzzled and frustrated. Read more

I just bought a mini OBD2 code reader after being told it would work on a '96 fiesta, but it doesn't, or at least i haven't found the correct software.... Read more

A fiesta of this age is not obd2 compatible.so you are going to struggle to find a cheap code reader.you may have to spend upwards of £200+to find a piece of kit that works.

Hi,

A while back a pal at work managed to wriggle under the vehicle to take a look at the linkages. Without having the facilities to lift the van he could only watch from a distance as I cycled through all the gears. He couldn't see anything amiss. Funny thing was that after this the gear changes just about went back to normal, free and easy. I put it down to 'freeing something off' while we were fault finding as I carried out LOTS of gear changes at that time....

I am trying to find out which 2008-10 astra 1.7cdti estates have a dpf. I believe from other sites on the internet that the 100 bhp ones do not, but there are some people that say they do, others they don't. There are references to vauxhallproductforum but that no longer exists. Anyone know please? Read more

It may depend on model/trim/engine - the diesel Vectra-C estates had DPFs from 2004 but much later for the saloon/hatchback versions....
