As above, need to buy a new smaller car and not to sure on the colt vs the argo faimly, does any one have any experiences with these? From what i can tell the argo family from the car reliablity index has electrical and cooling and heating issues, but i have also read the clutch needs a bigger one and the brake discs go more frequently, these are easy fixes for the home mechanic. The colt on the other hand looks like the electrical, fuel system and suspension and axle seems to be quite high on repairs?

Hi, first time on the forum....
Wondered if anyone could help.... I have an Astra H (59 plate) diesel estate with 35k on the clock. Recently I've noticed a couple of noises which I wondered if they were linked?... Read more
The clicking noise is possibly the air intake flap closing,so no issue to worry about. Is the second noise more of a puffing /blowing noise?Possible injector seal leaking?Difficult to diagnose without hearing it.
Changed the stop lamp bulb after the dashboard indicator logged a fault, then another fault appeared showing the rear left foglight bulb had blown.
Changed this bulb but the dash indicator still says the bulb is faulty and also noticed the foglight fails to work.... Read more
It may have Lucas on the box,but it could be any old junk inside.Use Osram or Philips bulbs,or even Gerlux, but you may struggle to find any of these easily.flea bay is probably your best option, but beware fakes
This is prompted by the performance yesterday (Friday) of one who hasn't the foggiest idea and nearly lost his life for it.
I'm at work it's 5.50am on the A420 between Oxford and Swindon in an artic tanker, maintaining 50 where possible on the single carriagway as its now legal...and as an aside the increase from 40 to 50 has stopped most suicidal overtakes by the terminally inept and made all our journeys less frustrating IMHO.... I was never taught this, having passed my test 7 years ago. The guy had taken me on a dual carriageway once and that was it. He said I was a natural at it, so didn't bother with it after. Same with bay parking, I did it once when parking the car up for the end of the lesson. He didn't expect me to get it in the bay but I did. I was happy.
I have seen some stupid overtakes, mostly on that A road from the M54 through to Chester. Once I was stuck behind this guy who was doing 40mph, and I thought "I'll overtake him when I get chance". I got my chance, left plenty of room in front of me, and I go for it. He starts to accelerate! We're actually neck and neck when a HGV comes in to view, I slam the anchors on and dart behind him. He's waving his finger at me - then reduces back to 40mph!...
I recently fitted a reversing sensor to this car and blew the reverse light 10 amp fuse and the 20 amp central locking and window fuse, I have replaced both and the reverse lights and parking sensors work but no power to the folding roof, electric window or central locking, checked all other fuses and earth straps and all is ok, could it be a relay and if so where is it situated in the car please. Have you tried disconnecting the battery, just incase the body module has thrown a wobbly?Never seen a relay blown, either the operating coil goes open/short circuit or the contacts burn out.
For those interested, BPs latest incarnation of Ultimate Diesel no longer guarantees a minimum cetane number of 55, with typical values between 58-60. Instead it meets BSEN590 standard of min 51.

I don't think you can read too much into information supplied by customer services. They are probably trained to give standard, legally compliant replies. EN standard dictates a minimum cetane, but ultimate may still be above their standard diesel. One thing I am aware of is that cetane improvers of the kind BP chuck into their product, deteriorate rapidly with age and as very few customers buy ultimate nowadays, it stays in the forecourt tanks a long time and BP probably realise a lot of customers end up buying old diesel that has very little cetane boost from standard.
I am thinking that within the next two years of replacing my 12 year old Octavia TDI which I purchased when it was 8 years old.
I am wondering if there are any manufacturers/dealers that would provide a used car on pcp up to 3 years old ? Read more
Buying at all on PCP is an awful idea, let alone used with 5% odd interest. Get a loan - you'll own the car at the end, no conditions on mileage / damage and it'll probably work out cheaper.
One day, these people might suddenly wake up and realise they've p****d away the outright cost of a 2-year-old version of that same car - that would still have been worth £10k after 5 years, rather than being left with nothing but a bill to get the dents and scratches fixed...
Just had one of our cars into local garage for welding to exhaust brackets, when picking car up the mechanic uttered those immortal words "I removed your heat shield it's not needed". I've come across this before and know there have been discussions about it eg: "if not needed why fit in first place" etc.
I would like to ask:... Read more
Ok Thanks.
Hi there.
I bought a 65 plate (registered in September 2015) Ford Focus 1.0 125 Ecoboost at the beginning of February. I like the car but have been looking at the Volvo V40 (looks great). How much of a trade in do you think I would get on my Focus (2000 miles on the clock) Read more
The previous Volvo S40 and V50 were basically Focus underneath, but the V40 - especially the newest ones - have Volvo's own engines.
Inevitably you're going to take a hit if you sell any car in its first year - I'd say it's only worthwhile if for whatever reason you really don't like your Focus. If that's the case, get a good long test drive in a V40 - there's now a better choice of petrol engines - and make sure you prefer it.

At your budget level, condition is more important than make or model. That said, I agree with Ethan that a Picasso should meet your needs, as would a Toyota Verso, a Ford C-Max or a Vauxhall Zafira.
Tha advantage of those four is that there should be plenty around in your price range, so try to find one that looks as if it's been looked after and has at least some service history.
Really, another scandal from the great vw group!!
