I have a deep rumble (with some vibrations) which arrives promptly everytime I reach 60mph and which continues until 70mph after which it seems to diminish in annoyance. I don't need to be accelerating hard for it to happen and in fact If I accelerate gently and put cruise control on at 60mph and continue driving, the rumbling arrives and the car doesn't feel as smooth as it should. If I accelerate up to 80mph and then release the accelerator so as the speed falls back to within the 60-70mph range, it's pretty noticeable.
Bearing in mind the known weaknesses of theses cars, and Audi's in general, could this be the drive shaft bearings ?... Read more
You don't mention whether or not the suggested stand alone units accept third party points of interest such as a preferred speed camera databases eg Pocket GPS. It seems that whereas the older TomToms did they have phased it out on each new model whereas I believe that Garmin still have the feature. Read more
Not exactly a heating problem but I was a little lost for two or three words to sum-up the problem.....no suggestions please :o)
My wife complains that there is a draft coming down the lounge chimney and asks me to find a solution for it!... Read more
Henry, if the fire gas fire is installed correctly there should be a cowl fitted at the top of the chimney pot. This is designed to prevent downdraught, which is probably the cause of your problem. This could be dangerous if you use the fire as it will force carbon monoxide back into the room. This could be FATAL.
If you wish to use the chimney flue at all either for the fire you have or another appliance (wood burner etc) in future then the chimney needs proper attention. It should be lined and sealed top and bottom so any flue gases can only go directly up the chimney from the appliance. If you intend to make the chimnay redundant then you can seal it at the bottom leaving a small air vent to allow air to go up the chimney, and sealed at the top with a small air vent to allow air through also....
I've just had my front drivers side joint replaced because I noticed yesterday that the boot was off and grease was everywhere. Took it to a garage today and had it all done, but the b***** thing has just popped off again while I was parking. I failed an MOT with this last year and it just keeps happening. What am I supposed to do? I know the garage has just done it but won't they say its just wear and tear?
Btw, its the plastic type boot. Really annoying me now. What is the point in getting it repaired if its just going to come off again when I have to use loads of steering lock. ... Read more
Railroad is right. Get a quality boot clip and tool (not expensive) I like "Oetiker" clips.
Clean the grease from the boot sealing faces finishing with a wipe of brake cleaner.
Then new clip with proper tool. Don't be shy when crimping!
You should be able to do the job without taking driveshaft out. A genuine Vauxhall boot clip might not be too much money.
Chris.
Evening all.
Last year in October I wS involved in a collision. Without going into too much detail a pedestrian ran out in front of me. He died at the scene. It's been a horrible few months and the police investigation is over. They said there was nothing I could do so no further action.
Now they have released the car. An approved garage picked up my car 4 months after the collision. They have assessed it to be a total loss. It is only cosmetic damage with most I can live with. New side panel, windscreen, passenger side window and a few dents.
The garage said the repairs would cost around 4000 pounds. The car is worth around 3200 pounds. I bought it for that just one month before the accident. I rang the insurance and told them to hang on while I get another garage to look at it. They went to look at the car yesterday and said the car would be easy repairable for 1500.
Today I rang the insurance up to tell them and I will email the invoice.
My concern is that they said they will still make the decision if the car can be repaired for the price my own chosen garage quoted.
I feel their going to write it off no matter what. Can they really decide if the car is allowed to be repaired or did they mean to say that depending if it would be a cat a,b,c or d then that's what would deem the car repairable or not. I'm guessing it's going to be a cat c as its only cosmetic damage.
They also talked about selling me the car back after writing it off. I was wondering what kind of price I would pay for this or how it even works.
It's been a long time with all this and getting the car back on the road will finally allow me to get my life going again. I know it's only money and metal and that's nothing compared to what happened. It's just the incident was bad enough and I was close to just ending it and now the insurance are making it very difficult. They've already sent one assessor out and they said they would send another.
I'm thinking of just getting the car to the other garage asap. The insurance approved garage, where my car is now, have said they will take it to anywhere I like for free as he felt sorry for me. Thanks for listening. Read more
IMO, writing cars off after a modest crash is a huge scam. There was even an article saying much the same in Telgraph Cars supplement about 6-8 months ago.
I agree. Every RTC is an opportunity for the motor and insurance industry to create work and print money, all of which is supplied by the hapless driver....
Can anyone help please? I don't have the radio code for my Mondeo Sony radio 6 cd player - the SN is: SOCD6X8V002108

PS I paid £10.99 to onlineradiocodes.co.uk and the radiocode came through in 10 mins and works fine - saved me time and travel and £25 for Ford to do it. To get the V serial no press 1 & 6 together
Hi All,
I picked up a '03 Reg 2.0L Mazda 323 last week. it had no issues at the time but around 100 miles later it popped up an error code (believe P0038). I cleared it and asked the old owner who said he had the same thing, cleared and it had not returned since. it did not come back for another 50 miles when I cleared again.... Read more
