Audi A4 avant 3.0Tdi V6 Quattro July 2012 (30K) - Rumble from 60mph - Davidfrance

I have a deep rumble (with some vibrations) which arrives promptly everytime I reach 60mph and which continues until 70mph after which it seems to diminish in annoyance. I don't need to be accelerating hard for it to happen and in fact If I accelerate gently and put cruise control on at 60mph and continue driving, the rumbling arrives and the car doesn't feel as smooth as it should. If I accelerate up to 80mph and then release the accelerator so as the speed falls back to within the 60-70mph range, it's pretty noticeable.

Bearing in mind the known weaknesses of theses cars, and Audi's in general, could this be the drive shaft bearings ?

Thanks for any ideas you may have.

Wheel balance?

This is within the usual speed range for a wheel balance problem, so you should eliminate that first.

Have all four wheels balanced and have the tyres checked for any uneven wear at the same time. Go to alignmycar.co.uk and go to a convenient centre with a Hunter alignment rig. If there are any signs of uneven wear, it can then be checked on the Hunter and adjusted if necessary.

even if you've had the it done within the last few 000 miles - never discount the possibility that a weight has fallen off or you've hit a pothole without realising.

Could also be a tyre with ply seperation causing it to go out of shape at higher speeds.
