The sensor on my C4 is knackered but the one fitted to the car is different to the one supplied as a replacement, mine appears to be the same as fitted to PUG 406 from 2006.

Yes of course i could but i would like to understand if the differenc is of consequence, or do all the DPF pressure sensors do the same thing to the level where they are interchangeable.

If we give up asking why we never expand our knowledge...

With the introduction of electric power steering now almost universal, what are the benefits, downsides of both types ?

And do any new vehicles still fit hydraulic power steering ? Read more

Electric power steering allows 'additional' functions, self parking/driving, compensation for vehicle drift, etc. Another aspect is it's use in electric and hybrid vehicles. Electro hydraulic could be used for these but it would add additional service requirements.

I have a Focus ST3 and was looking forward to the release of the new RS. So I enquired with Trustford as to where I could view one in the flesh.

I was sent some pics and a price list. I then got a call from a manager asking if someone had been in touch. He said one was not available to view, and that as they were getting orders without viewings, there wouldn't be a chance to get in one for a few months.

Then I queried the price. Okay £29995 I'd pay that. But with the extras fitted to bring it up to spec with my ST3, bumped the price up to £33,185. I questioned this price and that I could get a Honda Type R with all the kit cheaper. I wondered whether they would throw in the extras to get my repeat custom. No. If you don't want to pay the full wack, then go get your Type R was the response.

Considering I've been a loyal customer with the Ford brand for years, I thought that was a big kick in the teeth on their part. There is no loyalty to customers anymore. There was no, see what we can do from him. Take it or leave it.

I know there are mugs who will buy because it's the new RS, and Ford are relying on this, but they shouldn't just dismiss their core buyers at a whim.

Well Ford, I'm leaving it. I've "Unlearned" a lesson. Read more

However, with a little nosing around you can buy a slightly slower Golf GTi Nav+Performance Pack (effectively new with delivery miles only) at a whopping £7k off the list price (£30k) at Motorpoint. I suspect VW are at present desparately trying to shift cars any way they can during their 'annus horribilus' period. I doubt if most drivers would notice the difference in performance between that and an 'R' model.

Hi all, right here goes, I just traded my Renault Megane in last Monday for a Vauxhall signum, the following morning on the way to work i noticed black smoke coming from the exhaust, I got a friend from work to have a look, the swirl bar was off and one of the pins it connects too was broken, my mate says it will probably need a new inlet manifold , then on the way home the car started squeeling every time I slowed down and even more black smoke when I sped up, I decided to contact the dealer I got the car from and told him about the problems, I took it up to him, he said he will fix it and asked me to buy a swirl bar off eBay and he will fit it, I said ok, while waiting for the bar to come, the car felt even worse, two days later I decided enough is enough, I contacted him and said I wanted my old car back, he said I can't do that, he said he spent money on my car putting it through mot, and fitting a new timing belt, he said he serviced it too, altogether he said he spent 500 pounds on my car, i just wanted my car back so now I'm down 500 quid, when I got my car home I checked it, there was no new timing belt on it, the service was not down because the oil was still black, my tyres where worn down so it couldn't have passed mot, he changed the wheels so it would pass mot then put my old ones back on, I know this because the bolts on my wheels had been changed and my locking nuts where missing, my question is, do I have any rights in getting my 500 pounds back, even if he had done work to it, I'm glad to get my car back, the signum would have ended up costing me a fortune Read more

I agree with the above, except the MOT isn't dodgy. It is perfectly legit, technically, for a car to pass a MOT and then bits swapped off it afterwards.

Not exactly ethical, maybe, but not a MOT offense.

this could probably be the most extensive test on the difference of supermarket fuel Vs branded. I wanted to see if I was paying over the auds using bp ultimate or if I could get the same results for 10p cheaper. I filled up with supermarket fuel, let it go to half a tank, filled up again and re-set my ecu. I then did my normal run on the motorway where I average 67.5 MPG. With supermarket this dropped to 61.2MPG. Around town my normal was 55 MPG, again with supermarket fuel this dropped to as little as 41MPG. I also noticed my engine sounded noticeably louder, my misses also noticed this.after the test I filled up with BP, let it go to half a tank, filled up again, re-set ecu, fuel results went back to normal and nd engine smoother and quieter. I carried these tests over a 4 week period in my taxi and can safely say branded fuel, in my car makes a big difference to supermarket both in price and engine, also noticed more low down power. Hope this puts the debate to rest... Read more

I saw an advertisement in the New Scientist magazine for an intelligent all wheel drive system for the Mondeo. When I looked at the Ford website to find out more about it, the website wasn't any help. When I type in the search term 'All Wheel Drive' the screen changes to the Transit van. Does anybody know anything ? Read more

I looked at both of the Fusion and the Vignale websites. The Vignale website is very simple and doesn't give much information. The Fusion website is the total opposite, easy to navigate and lots of information, including the price. Lots of lovely photos, BUT where is the handbrake ? Perhaps the handbrake applies itself, everything else seems to be 'assisted'.

Sounds like the auxillary belt is slipping - probably loose and/or worn out.

Have it checked and sorted asap - the battery is being discharged and it will go flat and leave you stranded if you delay....

Hi, I bought a car from a neighbour who trades in second hand cars..its the second one i have had off him.The Saab broke down, with transmission problems, three times, and each time he took it back for repair, The last time , i had to get the recovery people to bring it back as it was complelety gone. Gave the neighbour keys, and the car was gone, for ages, the neighbour then did a dissapearing trick, and wasnt answering my calls or texts. I asked for my money back etc..and have trading standards involved as many months have passed, They cauight up with him, and he denies taking the car!!. My fella drove around the area, and yesterday spotted the car parked up on a private driveway, a couple of miles from here. Police are not interested saying its a civil matter. Where do i go from here anyone???

Cant claim on insurance as keys were given to lying neighbour.Police, say I cant take the car from where it is parked!! Read more

He sounds like a very dodgy dealer who will do everything to avoid paying up. If you have rejected the car and returned it to the dealer it is no longer your car so the dealer cannot steal it from you. He would have to repay your money but that is where the civil law comes in - you would need to get a court order to force him to pay by the sound of it and even then there are tricks he could play to avoid paying. eg. declaring himself bankrupt, no assets and so on.

A friend was sold a CAT C car from a local dealer without being told it was a CAT C write off approx 6 weeks ago. She owned the car for a few weeks and then found out about it being a write off.

After questioning the dealer they claimed that they knew it was a CAT C and put it on the advert. However, my friend didn't see the advert, they simply walked into the forcourt and was sold the car with no mention of it being a CAT C (the dealer has confirmed that he did not tell about it too).... She tells the dealer to give her a full refund. Or else she goes to Trading Standards re. the clocking and the Cat C offence, and the dealer can take their chances with TS.
