Ah, Ford do it the other way to PSA then with dual purpose bolts, with the same end result, well done them, less for an owner to have to think about or faff about with changing a flat in typical never handy circumstances.

Longer bolts are more of a worry for cars with drum inside disc parking brakes, too long a bolt and you can end up mashing the parking brake mechanism up, i don't think PSA or Ford use the disc within drum parking brake, except maybe on the odd rebadged model...one such could be Pug 4007 which *may* have drum inside disc, previous Outlander does so possible.

Hi,

The intermittent wipe on my Corsa 06 'C' has become very erratic. It can be 5 seconds between wipes and then change to 20 seconds! I assume there's a relay that needs changing - if thats the case can someone guide me to it.... Read more

There is no dedicated delay relay for these.Wiper functions are controlled by a slow and fast relay which in turn are switched by the body control module to give the selected operation from the wiper stalk. You can swap out the slow and fast relay, but the body module is coded to the car and incorporates the immobiliser function. All these components can be found in the electric box, next to the battery.

Hi,
In July of last year I was was traveling down a 20mph road and indicated to turn right, I was being closely followed by a van. I checked my mirrors and turned my car was in the right hand lane when the van drove into my drivers door at speed. I couldn't actually get out of the car as my door was too damaged but my partner did. I was learning at the time (test booked and passed 8 weeks later). He stated that I didn't indicate, however as my partner pointed out my indicater was still on. He then stated my positioning was wrong and I pulled to the left (no turning to the left). His insurer state that it should be 50/50 liability. My legal representative is Slater Gorden who I am informed are in financial difficulty. They are pressing me to accept the offer or if I go to court I could loose and incur costs as they do not support me going to court. I spoke to my family solicitor who is in agreement (though an informal opinion) that I am not a fault. I feel like I am not being represented properly and feel I am being forced into a decision I am not happy with.
I have sent photos of the damage and the junction, which is wide enough for two vehicles and he could have been used to avert te accident.
With being a new driver (later in life) I have lost my car, now paying PCP and to add insult to this I will now have an at fault claim if I agree to this. Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks

I agree Bromptonaut, these legal firms are generally not your friend, although I know of a few exceptions. All they want is to drag the case out as long as they dare, then cut a deal whether it suits you or not, then claim their fees. The origonal OP must fight for his rights on this occasion, do his homework and issue clear instructions to the solicitors.

Had my car MOT'd in December which it passed but came away with the note that the Brake Pads would probably need replacing soon. I am getting the message Error on Parking Brake would one affect the other? As I am Female I am sorry to say that I never feel Garages are telling me the truth when I ask what really needs doing any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Read more

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond I really appreciate it. I will do as you suggest and look around and take advice, that is exactly what I mean about trusting garages one never knows if you are being quoted for work actually needed or add ons, even if the work stated has actually been done and I wouldn't be any the wiser! Thanks again.

What is the current view on brake fluid changes?

Most handbooks seem to specify every 2 years. Could this be safely extended to 3 years?... Read more

I used to operate (in the uk) on an "if it ain't broke" basis and got away with it, only replacing fluid if I was forced to work on the brakes. Perhaps the previous owners of my UK bangers had been more pro-active.

I recently took my 2004 focus to a diesel specialist as it was loosing power slightly at 2000 revs intermittently. They tested the injectors which they said were fine, but they could never get the car started afterwards. After a few weeks they got a motor electrician out who told them its either the ECU or the injector pump. either way they said I will have to pay for it. I am a little peeved as the car was running fine before I took it in, and the repair cost is more than the value of the car. They say that the work they have done has not created the problem.

Do I have a leg to stand on as a friend of mine said you may have to pay to have the car checked by a third party to see if it is a problem they have created, but can be hard to prove either way. As anyone any advice? Read more

I don't think you need an engineer's report to prove that you drove it to the garage to fix whatever problem it had, they attempted to fix it, and now it won't start so now it can't be driven.

This seems such a useful facility, but does HJ or anyone on his staff bother to check them? I've found several examples where an owner has posted his/her review several times on the same day. Here's just one of them:
