What Car? - Really rather pricy and overly large relative to the competition these days therefore not very environmentally friendly, design really hasn't changed in years, layout not very logical though all the features are there somewhere, size makes it not very easy to handle, though once you get into it it can keep you entertained.

...Are there though journalists who are paid for work that appears essentially online and not in print?...

Yes, I' ve wondered the same thing.

When Michael Jackson died, I heard a radio interview with a guy described as 'the editor of online showbiz gossip magazine....'

The impression given that he was being paid to do that.

I think some of the paper magazines may now have a very small staff, most of the content coming from contributors to an editor who may not even be full-time.

In the case of Gurdon's tests, I'm sure I've seen his work in print elsewhere.

I imagine it would be very hard for a journalist to make a living exclusively online.

Hi,

Due to the growing needs in the family, and more of us working we require another car.

Seen a Vx vectra 2001 51 2.2 dti sri, 5 door hatch, in the local rag for £1250. Mileage is 141k. Half leathers, cd, aircon etc.

Just really need opinions on the car. Are these cars good for commuting? Any known issues?
Anybody owned one? What was it like?

Economy...I know its 2.2 but is it good?

Over to you knowledgeable people...Yay or Nay?

Thanks Read more

Hopefully I wont have to go down that route!

Does any one if these cars are ok for running on veg oil? How strong are the fuel pumps?

posted a couple of messages on here regarding a couple of cars i was interested in (626 / primera) the 626 was forgot about when we learnt of there poor safety in crashes, swmbo tried a primera out today , its too big for her to drive and the bonnets too long for her to see the front when parking , its looking like an almera is what i am going to end up with , is the 1.5 engine prone to timing chain problems , is the 1.5 any good or should i look for a 1.8
i am really getting desperate for advice regarding this car and advice will be very much appreciated , looking around an x/y plate what should i be paying Read more

have a look at one of the last of the old model toyota corollas, 3 doors are especially good

would be my preference over an almera

Yep, one squeaky front wheel--probably nothing serious, but Boy is it annoying. It appeared to start after I had jetwashed the crud off the front suspension, so maybe Ive washed the grease out of a bearing?
Dont think its brakes coz it carries on when the brakes are applied, but any other ideas would be welcome. Read more

It was probably being delivered to The Berkeley in Knightsbridge where one will be on-show until the end of December.

Latest word from my local dealer is that first customer deliveries are still expected in January.

This is the thread where the contributions will be hosted. The mystery celebrity Judge won't know the identity of the competitors.

They'll all be posted here under my name after the closing date.

No prize for the first stab at it - but HJ has intimated that we might be able to come up with a prize in future. We await the next competition with bated breath !

An imported car from Ireland, pre reg on 01/09/09 - on the road price sub 18500 quid. Saving of aprox 9k rrp, but real saving about 5k as local dealers will give a 5k discount.

It's ready for a right hand drive country.

Instead of the 3 year warrnty for uk cars, this has a 2 year from date of reg.

So what is the difference?

I'm talking about a motorpoint car.

If there is a real saving of around £5k then I would personally be very tempted by it. I am sure that if the spec differs slightly it won't be £5k's worth of difference and the car will still have most of the items fitted that you really use day to day anyway.

The longer you keep the car the less any potential difference in the value between that and a 'proper' UK sourced car will be when you come to sell.

I have a Citroen 51 Reg C5 and my lights flicker at night also, dont know why but it seems a common thing with them

It is a symptom of the pre 2003 cars. If you start getting random messages on the dashboard as well then the battery is on its way out.

They fixed the flickering on later models. You get used to it.

This week's muppet of the week award (awarded weekly) goes to the driver of a black Range Rover Sport in Devon. Appreciate that this doesn't really narrow it down, so if you own a black Range Rover in Devon, assume that it's you.

I'm driving down a NSL A-road and see a RR coming in the opposite direction, but reversing back up the road to a missed junction. Bear in mind that I'm doing 60mph at this point, but beginning to slow as I consider what might happen.

As if on cue, Range Rover swerves violently onto my side of the road, still going backwards, leaving me face to face with it in a rapidly vanishing gap. Fortunately, exceptionally heavy braking avoids a collision leaving me nothing more to do than lean on the horn and hint by way of polite sign language that I don't think much of his driving.

Can you imagine filling out the insurance claim form? They'd never believe you. :-) Read more

I've always wondered about these tank roads. Do they have warning signs when tanks are driving up and down them or warning vehicles?

ASFAIK they just have the standard red warning triangle as a roadside sign - ive never though actually seen any tanks when ive been on the roads though
