Is it me or is there an increase in people pulling into traffic from a side road and then NOT accelerating causing you to slow down?

This seems to be happening more and more as if the new 'rule' is. Get into the main road and then idle along.

I thought that it was necessary to pull into traffic so as to not cause the on coming cars to have to slow?

After this if you safely over take them as they pootle, it's then a crime, in their eyes, for you to over take them!

Are these the same people that accelerate to stop you overtaking them and/or do not leave a gap for overtakers?

Anyone?

Agreed SS we've all got it wrong sometimes and i never worry about anyone pulling
out in front if they get the clog down and clear off which is exactly
what i do foot to the floor and gone.
It's those that mince about taking all the time in the world that annoy whether
by sheer incompetence/ignorance or intentional obstruction...i'm unsure which is worse but it's getting more widespread.

Absolutely agree with you. If I pull out and someone is approaching faster than I realised then I make sure I clog it to give them as much space as possible. Also do the same on NSL dual carriageways if someone is coming up behind me quite quickly and I'm overtaking. I'll speed up to get out of their way bit more quickly if I have room in front. Seems polite.

Some herberts seem to speed up when you try and overtake them. You slot in behind then they suddenly slow down! So you pull out to overtake them again and they often speed up. Usually end up pushing on and getting past them if they're going to be dog in the manger. Often men so you know they are deficient in certain departments.

The mincers are most dangerous when you follow them to join a dual carriageway or motorway. They pranny about at 40mph for most of the way up the slip road. Have started to floor it past these types as they are often a total liability.

Clearly the speed kills mantra has made a load of people into ditherers and afraid to use appropriate speed. Joining a motorway at 40mph is lethal but obviously they think they're being virtuous by not accelerating briskly. Save the planet but end up in a hospital bed with a mangled car. Hmmmm.

Hi. I have to replace a leaking rear brake cylinder and am told there are two different ones used on this model. Slightly different bore size. While I'm in there I will change the shoes and both cylinders but looking at the new cylinders there is no obvious difference between them. "bought both sizes and can take unused ones back". Question is does it matter so long as the cylinders each side are the same? and if so how can I tell, do I need to strip new and old cylinder and measure the internal bores? Many thanks.. Ian.. Can someone please tell me where the engine coolant drain plug is. I can't find it. The Haynes manual states its on the rear of the engine block but it doesn't say where abouts. Read more

mjm

>>Thank you mjm, is it the one that is slightly recesed with a square socket?<<
I don't know. They seem to vary from engine to engine. To be honest I wouldn't bother draining it if the rest of the system is clean.
I always use Halfords 5 year advanced coolant and aim for a 30/40 % strength. I have a Citroen Xantia which has many power units in common with the Peugot 405 but the cooling system may vary in its total volume.

The 2006 Passat I went to look at a couple of days ago.

£8,600, 35,000 miles. 1.9 TDI - metallic black.

Newish but obscure tyres on the front (17"?)

A 1/4 worn Goodyear on the left year and a Bridgestone worn almost to the limit on the outer edge of right rear. No valve caps on any of the tyres.

Seeing three makes of tyre on a car turns me off - and I didn`t pursue it further. It was a car `supermarket` type place and I would have bought it cash.

I did get into a brief provisional chat with one of the salesmen who said that there is "no negotiation on price" in this sort of sales site.

Really? I`ve never encountered that before - but then I usually buy new and negotiate down to online retail prices, or below - as with the current van. Read more

I`ve given up anyway GB... Actually I am too attentive to detail Bobby and recognize that it doesn`t really benefit me in a material sense.

The longest I`ve ever kept a new car is 6yrs (although SWMBO`s Punto is 7.5) there is always the chance that I may keep one of them `long term` though, in which case it will pay off. Maybe ;-)

posted last week regarding buying a mazda 626 , found out quite a bit about them from replies on here, got a primera recommendation from a user and have looked in to it , i have now decided it ticks almost all the boxes reliability/size etc

what i need to know is

apart from timing chains being noisey is there anything else on the engine i should listen/look out for

insurance quotes for a 2.0 are too expensive (1100 3pf&t with 3 years no claims) is the 1.8 sluggish and thirsty as this is a bit cheaper to insure

are body rust on tailgate and rear arches the only common places

do the wing mirrors fold (i know it sounds strange to ask but i have had my wing mirror kicked off 4 times were i live, seems its the local scroates favourite pass time)

can anyone give me some advice as i need to sort out a replacement car asap

thanks

I have considered getting a pattern part window regulator - not sure how good the quality is though, and how easy it would be to fit. Nissan dealer wanted £300 and £150 to fit, plus said window glass was broken and needed replacing when it wasn't broken. Hence several months of Duck tape and no drive-through food. I tried to look on the npoc site for advice, but it won't let me read the forums even though I registered.

I agree with other posters about the large turning circle, not easy to see out the back either - I reversed mine into a wall whilst turning in a cul-de-sac.

The Almera is an underrated car, but I think they seem more dated inside than the Primera and I thought they had certain mechanical issues.
