Thinking about trading our Citroen Berlingo for something just a little more car like.
Berlingo great for local trips bit can be tiring on long motorway journeys.
Anyway, thinking of a Mondeo estate. But can anyone tell me if it comes with a cargo net, like Mercedes estates do? Would be buying a Mercedes estate but our current price range puts us right in the middle of the W210 rusty years.
Just discovered that an Avensis estate has a net that rolls up.
Thanks for any info. Read more
Thanks for all the replies.
Yes, a pop up or roll up mesh is what I meant. All Mercedes E-class estates have them.
Today was following an 02 reg focus diesel and could see every time the driver accelerated some black smoke came out of his exhaust. Not a lot though. I had the windows open and soon after my eyes felt like they had pepper in them and I needed to pull over at the next laybye.
This has happened to me a few times now and certainly the last two were when I was following an older diesel.
Does anyone know what the reason for this could be? Is it particles or unburnt diesel or what? Read more
its alright my chips were too hot anyway
can you tell me if it,s worth using forte diesel additive in the above car,its running fine would this make any difference.

can you tell me if it s worth using forte diesel additive
In the current Autoexpress magazine issue 1083, 30 Sept they comment on the Which report "Fuel additives are a waste of money".
They do however increase profits for the people that make/sell them by reducing the loose change in your pocket. Diesel (DERV) is a far better additive and much cheaper.
Can someone tell me what are the primary factors informing a vehicle's stability?
I am told that the Daihatsu Zebra Pick-up (aka Hi-Jet) is unstable:
(photo) tinyurl.com/ya2h2ze
whereas the Mitsubishi Colt L300 is not:
www.ktb.co.id/product_detail.php?kid=8&pid=43
What factors inform this? Engine location? Front or rear-wheel drive? Vehicle width/height/length? Wheel size? Wheelbase length? Wheel position? Roll bars?
I'm considering the Daihatsu Granmax (aka Hi-jet) the replacement of the Zebra
www.daihatsu.com/catalogue/granmax/html/pickup/
The front wheels have been moved forward, the vehicle is 28 cm longer, 11 cm wider, and 7 cm heigher. The wheelbase is also 57cm longer.
Could someone explain to me why the old Hi-jet (Zebra) is unstable, and whether the new one is likely to be? Read more
chedder I would argue that roll centre is not that relevant to roll over indeed
it is possible to have the roll centre above the C of G. Mind you
if you did that you would have some pretty horrible side effects.
What matters is the hight of C of G above the ground and the track
assuming the C of G to be on the cenre line of the car and>>
As NC indicated static roll centre tells you nothing, its like treating the car as a solid cuboid on a flat surface, how the roll centre moves as the car moves on its suspension is important however.
just wondering what did they change to make a 150 tdi pd engine as it looks the same as a 130 pd engine Read more
Iirc, Diesel Car at the time said that it wasn't just a chip job; the 150TDi had stronger pistons and a larger turbo (which made it suffer from more pronounced turbo-lag than the 130).
I have a 1.8 tdci mondeo and now and then i smell clutch burn. the car has done 22k and the clutch does not slip at present , is this normal ? all my other cars have done in excess of 100k mile before a clutch is require, so i don't think it's me.
Any other owners smelt this ? some of the forums for glaxay/s-max have some nightmare stories.

I followed a very well maintained Mk1 Golf the other day with reg plate P123 XYZ. (not those characters, but you know what I mean)
How can this be? Read more
Too much for a number plate PU!
I came across this article from New Zealand and thought how refreshing it is to read about things as they really are.
You can find it at www.aadirections.co.nz look up the driver section and then 'why do we crash'.

In the "bad-old-days" we had a separate Traffic Police department under the Ministry of Transport. Their sole task, and policing power, was to maintain law and order on the roads. They did quite a good job too, until some Gummint beancounter decided that they should be merged with the flat-foot cops to save on overheads. In my view, it hasn't worked as far as the policing aspect goes. They also examined people for driver's licences, instead of having it contracted out now to someone like the A.A. Believe me, it is somewhat stressful having a real live Traffic Cop sitting there watching your every move whilst you try to convince him that you should be allowed anywhere near a car, even if you are a bullet-proof teenager.
Maybe it is just wishful thinking, but there seems recently to have been a reduction in the number of cases of, "Boy racer crashes and kills someone". If the driver survives, the police are now going for manslaughter and the juries are convicting. Maybe it is having some deterrrent effect.
Drink-driving seems to be under control. There will always be the incorrigibles, but even in blitzes, the breath test failure rate is only a fraction of a percent.
Other "things being considered" were commonplace when I qualified, such as compulsory third party insurance. Why that was ever cancelled, I don't know. The premium was part of the annual tax payment, and there was a list of approved insurers on the form. You marked your preference for insurer, and that company got the money from the Transport Ministry.
The more things change, etc............
Or in other words quiz
1) Name the marque
2) location of vehicle
3) what clues are in the pic revealing past use and when was it last on the road?
4) How would you advise the car manufacturer?

"Were they surprised when you nosed around underneath,"
GB, Yes, it caused the staff to look perplexed. If cars were better cared for I might have bought the Passat, but as things are with car care i think I will stick to buying new and keeping long term.
Martin, this thread was inspired (in format) by thinking of `flight of ideas` as a psychiatric symptom - but not suffering from it. ;-)
