Please can you help me I have recently purchased a new cooling fan switch which needs fitting on my Citroën Berlingo van 2002 1.9 D. Can you please tell me the location of the fan switch? It does not have air con.
It overheats (the fan does not come on) and I want to check to see if the switch is working but I can't seem to locate it whereabouts. I have been to four Mechanics and they can?t seem to find it either I have also visited numerous web sites without any luck. This is costing me a lot of money and my time I would be deeply grateful if you be able to able to solve this mystery for me or even a diagram of it location would be even better.

hello
car misfiring on 2nd cylinder (intermitent) suspect coil pack
How much is a coil pack and leads from ford or buy one from ebay ?
Any other faults which may cause misfire ?
Hard or easy to fit new one ?
thankyou Read more
I found the leads from Ford to be as cheap as those from Halfords. Cured a single cylinder occasional misfire on the 2-year old Bosch silicons!
The coil pack will definitely be a different story though.
Due to road changes, several sets of traffic lights and pedestrian crossings in my area have been renewed and each supplied with about 6 cameras. Some of these point down at the crossing, some up and down the road. What are they for? Read more
Infrared sensors so that the crossing will ignore the stupid kids(and adults)who push the buttons
as they walk past and the delay in changing the lights after pressing the button
will be affected by the amount of traffic.
Isn't it an offence to obstruct traffic? Many years ago a friend of mine was done for driving through a red light on a pedestrian crossing after an oik walked past and pressed the button. The police saw what had happened but weren't interested in stopping the pedestrian. Hmmm.
Not police bashing but obviously the motorist is an ATM and the pedestrian was probably on benefits smoking roll ups
Would love some advice on an overheat problem my automatic Focus is having.
Short summary of story so far :
Was advised engine was knackered (as in replacement engine required), but found a place who said they could repair it, 2 new pistons and piston rings. All was well for 3 weeks but then started running rough. Noticed that the temp guage was acting almost like the speedo, anything above 50mph it would hit the end of the red, then when I slowed down it would go back to the normal position. Took it back to the mechanic who checked a few things and said it was OK now, took it out for a test spin and the engine blew. He has since had the car for 6 weeks, replaced all 4 pistons and got a new block. He advised me to replace the oil and filter which I did this morning, then took it out for a test drive. As soon as I hit 50mph the same thing with the temp guage happened again. I drove it home extremely slowly.
I am not mechanically minded (the oil filter change is the top of my abilities!) but have looked online and found suggestions that it could be blocked coolant or dodgy thermostat.
Does anyone have an opinion on if it's something so simple or if this is indicative of impending engine blow up (again)!
If it is coolant blockage or thermostat could this cause the engine to blow again if not rectified straight away, wondering why the mechanic would not have checked it as I told him the symptoms right before it blew last time ?
Not sure if this matters but just let it get up to running temp on the drive then subjected it to sustained revs of 4-5K and the temp guage didn't budge off normal so assume this only occurs when actually driving.
Sent a text to the mechanic today saying I wanted a replacement engine or refund but not sure if this is the route to take if it is only likely to be a minor issue. Any thoughts appreciated.

try this - my post from another thread.
I am posting this in the hope that I can save others from expense of going through what I have. If you want to just skip to last para the solution is there. Over the past month I have had the same probelms with my 2001 Focus 1.6 Zetec. I have owned the car from new and various members of the fmaily have used it so its taken 11 years for this issue to come out. The temp gauge would shoot to the red mostly when on a motorway or climbing a long hill but it gradually got worse to the extent that even on short journeys it was an issue.
Cut a long story short, change thermostat, then temp sender, then full flush of rad, then had water pump examined by camera, then garage found that head was an issue when tested at high tempertaure as gas was discoulouring test liquid they used. Head was warped probably due to overheating.
After rebuild no better so garage spend hrs on the interent to find solution (I had tried and not found one). like above everyone says they have an issue but no one says what the solution is!!! So thanks to my garage (an independent) here it is for those who feel there is no end to the problem.
Ford in 2001 issued a bulletin on overheating 1.4L and 1.6l Zetec engines. Bulletin TSB 005/2001 which was updated by bulletin no.5 dated 17th may 2001 (1 month after I bought the car). The fix involves new expansion tank and cap, new 74degree thermostat and new coolant hoses to splice into exisiting. Thanks to my indepedent garage they found this - when they spoke to Ford they knew nothing but went and investigated and parts were delivered in 24hrs once they had agreed it was the fix. Ford should be ashamed of themselves for not informing drivers better as there many many drivers out there who seem to have the issue but no one seems to know the fix. Hope this helps, my car to date has not overheated despite my best efforts in testing the garages work.
I jave just called the dealer that we bought the car off last November and they are wanting to charge £194 for its first service.
The car was registered in July but we bought it in November with 8 miles on it. It is now due its service for time rather than miles as it has only done 8,000.
I asked them what they were going to be doing for £194 as I think that is very expensive for a first service and they said they would change the oil/filter, air filter, clean brakes and replace the spark plugs.
Why do plugs need changing after 8,000 miles? I have never had plugs changed every year and certainly not after that mileage.
Does this sound right? I might ring another dealer on Monday! Read more
My 307 has had 4 annual/12K main dealer services and they have never been over £200 even including a list price MOT (£55). Well pleased, so far. Mind you I haven't yet had any £25/litre EOLYS or a DPS service!
Can anybody help?
Recently my two and a half year old Vectra's air-con packed up.
It is completely standard 07 plate SRI cdti 150 with @ 32,000 miles.
I 'phoned the local Vauxhall garage & booked the car in to be looked at under warranty.
They told me that the compressor condenser needed replacing, and that the part and labour would be covered under the original 3 year warranty.
The garage order the part and when it arrived I took the Vectra in to the garage. Two hours later, they 'phoned me saying that having removed the condenser, they found that it was "stone damaged" and that Vauxhall would not cover the repair under the warranty.
The cost was £352, which I have paid.
Have I been had? - if so, what can I do? - if anything.
Thanks,
Phil

Good point well made.
There are thousands of components in a car. If every one were to be made bulletproof, the car would be so heavy that it would not be able to get out of its own way-and it would be prohibitively expensive to boot.
Hi
My Astra Design (06) has a intermittent starting problem. More often than not it starts on the button, but occasionally, normally when warm, it will take a good 5 seconds of turning to start, then splutter into life. I have been informed it smells of petrol when it does - which figures!
Any ideas? The intermittent thing leads me towards a sensor or something, rather than any regular service item?
Cheers
Dave

bigtee - No I don't touch the throttle at all. Just turn the key and wait. When it is normal it fires instantly. When is it being slow it will take 5 secs, and then when it fires it will 'chug' a little into life- maybe like its a bit flooded temporarily or something. Clears almost instantly though.
I would like some advice on the following.
Approximately 18 months ago I bought a second hand Vauxhall Astra. The car was a 2006 model and still had some manufacturers warranty on it.
My car has run well from the day that I got it and I have been very happy with it, I have kept the car maintained to the highest standards although I have not used Vauxhall for any servicing. Last year whilst the car was still under warranty my oil light came on, when I checked the level the oil was fine.
I took my car to Vauxhall who gave the car a clean bill of health.
On Sunday whilst travelling home my oil light came one. I pulled over and checked that my car had sufficient oil, the oil was halfway up the dipstick so I turned the engine on again. The light went out and I continued my journey, about ten minutes later there was a loud bang and my car broke down, I had to be towed from the motorway and then have the car towed from the depot to the nearest Vauxhall dealer. This cost me £150 and £100 respectively.
I was obviously very unhappy that my car had broken down so contacted GM head office who told me that the dealer I had towed it to would investigate it for me, they have came back and said that the issue was due to the car being run with no oil.
They also state that I had to pay for their time investigating the problem.
They then also claimed that the works will cost me apx £4000 as I need a complete new engine. The car is 3 years and 3 months old so according to GM I am out of warranty, the car has only covered about 38,000 miles. Even though I am technically out of warranty I believe a car should last more than 38,000 miles.
I am very disappointed that my car has not lasted as long as I anticipated, when I informed GM of this they claimed that the damage was caused by no oil and that I was negligent.
I know that I have looked after the car and immediately before the incident it had enough oil. I also took the car to Vauxhall with a very similar problem whilst it was under warranty and nothing was done about it (They informed me it was fine!)
Is it worth me pursuing this as it is pretty much their word against mine, I cannot prove that I check the oil before long journeys which they are stating is the car of the damage.
I cannot afford the repair bill or a new car, please help.

Thanks captain zetec, anywhere that I can find this information out . . i.e how can I know it is a saab engine?
I checked every fuse in the car and none are blown. The bulbs are still in good condition. The only thing I can think of is the wire connection to the bulb in the tail gate is loose or disconnected. I don't close the boot hard but could this be the problem?
I've had 3 fuses blown in past year - central locking, elect windows, rear lights but I checked every one today and they are OK. Is there any thing else I can check or should I open up the tail gate and check the connection? Read more
"Following the wiring to a break" presumably means he's going to trace the wiring back through the car from the light unit until he finds a break in the circuit.
I'm sure this is a very obvious question and I should know the answer. If a named driver has an accident and claims, the named driver obviously has to declare it when they get their own insurance, but does the owner of the car also lose NCB. In this case own car not damaged but relatively minor damge to other car caused when named driver was at the wheel. Read more
Use one or more of the comparison websites - there are useful savings to be made.
But not all companies are on these - for example DirectLine. I have no connection with Direct Line.
Thanks - it could be a couple of things then as I originally had a problem with it getting hot over 60mph on the motorway or when climbing hills. Around town and bimbling along on the flat it will stay at just under 90 unless there's a traffic jam, and previously I've driven miles and miles with my foot to the floor and it's stayed at just under 90C.
I might book it in for a timing belt and water pump change as it may be the impellor. Annoying as I had it done only 2 years ago.
