Can anyone point me in the direction of an on-line route planner that I can put in a starting point, 13 stop off points, a finishing point and it works out the quickest route?
Any ones I have tried want me to decide the order of the stop off points but I want the planner to tell me the quickest route if that makes sense?

We have developed a multi-drop routing website, currently available at www.speedyroute.co.uk

The website is currently still under development / in the beta testing stage, and is currently free for *any* number of destinations. Enter your start/stop location, and any number of locations to visit, and the website will re-order the locations to provide the optimal route, visiting all the locations in the shortest time and distance, and also provides driving directions. Please take a look, and forward any suggestions about the website to info@speedyroute.co.uk...

Hi,

Do you have any experience driving any of this (primary in B7/B8 Audi A4)? I know that the new 3.0TDI is probably better (acceleration, fuel consumption, torgue) but it's considerably more expensive than 3.2FSI.

Putting fuel consumption on the side as I don't drive much (5-10k a year) how would you compare these 2 engines? I'm interested mostly in Auto transmission which in case of A4 it will be tiptronic.

I tried 2.0TDI with Multitronic (CVT) but found it a bit dull compared to my Mazda 3 Sport (2.0 petrol manual). 3.0TDI is too much but 3.2FSI is much cheaper (used cars).

Possibly nothing - my Volvo D5 has survived a couple of low-mileage years while I was working close to home. It's now piling on miles again and got a very clean report at its 96,000 service last week.

I couldn't say whether the short journeys our DPF-less Toyota Verso has to endure contributed to the injector problem that produced a lot of smoke until they were replaced under warranty. (The Verso does get a long motorway trip most weeks as compensation.)

There's an important distinction here between intermittent use for long, fast journeys, and daily short runs from cold; it's the latter that will really hurt an engine, DPF or none.

I was wondering if anyone knew if these CVT gearboxes actually work.

Are they unreliable ?
How do they compare to the same make and model of car but with a manual transmission ?

Is it true that a car with a CVT gearbox can not tow any extra weight (trailer / caravan) ?

I am also interested to know how they drive, do you put your foot down and the revs stay at 3,000rpm all of the time until the speed is higher ?

How do you perform a kick down like in a normal automatic ? Read more

The Escort my friend had was a 1992 mark5 1.6.

Not strictly a CVT but can anyone shed any light as to the gearbox of the prototype Mini at Gaydon Heritage centre with only one forward and reverse gear. How did they pull this off to achieve a wide range of road speeds? It was not a cvt.

Hi,

The gear change on my Honda CRV that I got at the beginning of April has been getting worse in recent weeks.

It was notchy to begin with, especially going into first, from first to second and coming down from third to second, but I assumed, and hoped, it was just stiffness from being new. (I notice that other C RV owners on here have posted of the same thing.).

I have now done 1900 miles in it and it has got stiffer and more notchy to the point that it is a difficult and uncomfortable drive - nothing flows and my right arm aches after short journeys so... I did some googling over the weekend and one of the top hits was from the CRV owners club where there is a thread on this subject.

According to the thread, which I have posted the link to below because I think it will be of interest to others, Honda have admitted to there being a problem and are working on it.

I understand from the thread that they have developed a fix for the petrol models but, as of the beginning of the month (July 2009), were saying that a fix was about 6 weeks away for the diesel models. In the meantime, it appears numerous CRV owners have taken their cars back for oil changes, linkage changes, etc, but to no joy.

www.crvownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?p=51780

Anyhow, I need to take my car into my local Honda dealer this week - I assume I need to do this to make them aware of the fact now even though, according to the above link, there is now fix yet. My plan is to print out the above link's post to show to them. I have never taken a car in for a warranty claim before so can you guys give me any tips on what I need to do - will they log the problem there and then, do I need to get any dated receipt or paperwork from them, etc, etc.

As I say I have not done this before and, with the car becoming increasingly difficult to drive, I want it noted that there is a problem now at the low mileage even though, again as the above link, that there appears to be an acknowledged Honda problem even though, as of yet, no Honda fix.

Thanks,

T.

I live near a Honda dealership, but I don't know whether to bother going down, as the vehicle was bought privately, and, that my CRV is 2009.

Can anyone guide on a 'best way forward' please? Thanks

What are your experiences of owning and driving a Ford Focus 2.0 TDCi 136 ps ? (any model)

In particular pre 2008 versions and the upgraded 2008 version.

Is there a noticable improvement in refinement and quietness in the Focus II upgrade compared with the original Focus II ?

Is the 2008 onwards engine an improvement over the pre 2008 engine and if so how would you describe it ?

Do 17" alloys with 205/50 tyres impact or affect the ride quality and/or increase road noise transmission compared with standard 16" alloys with 205/55 tyres ?

Are there any negative experiences/issues of note with post 2008 Focus 2.0 TDCi models ? Read more

Both very good cars, with different pluses and minuses as people have pointed out.

A VW is better value bought new, a Ford secondhand, as VWs hold their value better (partly through perception of build quality, mainly because there are lots of ex-fleet Focuses around). If you're buying used, I should think there are some good bargains to be had if you go for a Focus.

Folks
Some advice required please, from the insurance experts out there: My wife is an employee of the NHS, working as a Laboratory Scientist. She works regular hours and also does out of hours cover "on-call". The employer, the Health Care Trust has issued an internal memo/directive demanding that she has cover for business purposes on her policy. This will obviously cost us more money. I'm not convinced they are correct, surely she is commuting to and from her place of work even when on call?. The place of work is always the same place in the same hospital. Why does she need to have business cover? We are already covered for commuting and can't see why they're asking for this ( for all lab employees, incidentally) Anyone know ithe legal position here- I would like to challenge them on this if possible.

Thanks Bazza Read more

"Apparently she gets about 50p a mile to and from work on a call"

From the OP about 23,000 posts ago - bellboy is the one that gabbed the 24p figure from thin air !

i brought a brand new peugeot 1007 delivery millage only, 2007 plate in nov 07 ,as i drove home it developed a fault with the electric sliding doors where they where opening as we where driving.next day had to get a tow truck to take it back to peugeot.
well a week went past heard nothing from the dealership, this was a pain as my 7 year old son is severly disabled and we had appointments up great ormand street.
anyway another week passed heard nothing so i gave them a call to see if they could give me a loan car,had to fight tooth and nail to get one but in the end i did.
it was a good job i did beacuse christmas came and they still said they could not fix the problems with both doors.
christmas came and went so on the 10th of jan after hundreds of phone calls to rude peugeot workers and without a end in sight as they said they still could not find the fault i asked if i could have another car.
so on the 22nd jan 08 i took delivery of another car the same as the faulty one.
well it has not been an easy year and half i have had to put up with repeated faults with the doors, they open and shut on there own when they feel like it ,i have had to sit in my car for anything upto a hour just trying to shut the doors,i was driving though central london with my son in the back and they opened on there own.
i did not bother takeing it back to the dealer as it is such agro as they are very rude and unhelpful and there is nothing to say they can fix the fault as they couldnt on the other car we first had .
so putting up with this was bad enough but now is the final straw ,driveing tues last week and it broke down on the console it says transmittion fault and now the car cant move.
could anyone tell me if they think i could get my money back or a differant car as this is such a unreliable car and dam right dangerous.
i have had enough and im not sure what to do next.
oh to let you know i brought this car though the motorbilty scheme (hire purchase) so i get to keep it at the end.
please help many thanks

Its a shame we never heard from the OP about the outcome.

Daugter has a broken wing mirror from a recent altercation. It is reasonably firmly held on with parcel tape, and is still "attached" by the wire of the adjusting mechanism. I haven't been able to source a replacement, although a rash have just appeared on ebay.

MOT is due at the end of the month, but she has one booked for this weekend. Is the mirror a fail? Read more

I've sorted out the misfire which will probably clean up the exhaust for the MOT. I'd taken out a plug to see the model and must have knocked it putting it back in - the gap was way too small.

Hi Everyone

I just got my I10 last week and I did spot that the coolant level is not full. I would like to buy the coolant to fill it up, but when i browse on the web I can see there are different types of coolant (i.e. some with anti-freeze) .....

which one should I go for? would mixing different type of coolant be any problem?

I saw on the website someone mention that different types of car should use different coolant, could anyone recommend which coolant I should go for?

And if I filling my coolant, do I need to clear the old coolant first?

(I want to keep the car in the best condition so please any car expert give me some good advice!) Read more

You have bought a new car, it has been delivered/supplied not quite quite right, and the handbook doesn't tell you how to fix it. Unless the dealer is a very long way away take it back to him and get him to fix it for free. If he is a long way away get on the phone and ask what you should do.

Please can you help me I have recently purchased a new cooling fan switch which needs fitting on my Citroën Berlingo van 2002 1.9 D. Can you please tell me the location of the fan switch? It does not have air con.

It overheats (the fan does not come on) and I want to check to see if the switch is working but I can't seem to locate it whereabouts. I have been to four Mechanics and they can?t seem to find it either I have also visited numerous web sites without any luck. This is costing me a lot of money and my time I would be deeply grateful if you be able to able to solve this mystery for me or even a diagram of it location would be even better.

Good to see a result.Once on the move over approx 30mph,the fans are not very effective, unless the coolant temp sensor requests operation .

Thanks - it could be a couple of things then as I originally had a problem with it getting hot over 60mph on the motorway or when climbing hills. Around town and bimbling along on the flat it will stay at just under 90 unless there's a traffic jam, and previously I've driven miles and miles with my foot to the floor and it's stayed at just under 90C.

I might book it in for a timing belt and water pump change as it may be the impellor. Annoying as I had it done only 2 years ago.
