Hi
I have a Passat 1.8t @ 52K miles which has a problem with throttle response / throttle control. I find I have to "hunt" for the best throttle pedal position to get best response, particularly at low revs. Like an old over carburated car :-)
I find sometimes as I come off the gas it gives a bit more power (surges once)
Seems to make too much power at small 1/3 or 1/4 throttle opening.
Leaving the throttle at 1/3 position it will continue to pull through the range building power as the Turbo adds it.
Get unintentional wheelspin as a result
Boost gauge showed normal 11.5 PS boost,
N75 is new, with new hoses
Throttle pedal replaced with good secondhand
Boost pressure sensor on intercooler new.
Most of the hoses have been replaced.
Bypass valve new.
Engine is stock unchipped.
Bosch test centre showed 0 faults.
Or have I just described normal passat behaviour :-) Read more
Being a curious sort of fellow, I texted my reg number to 86007 and it duly provided technical info about my car. No great shakes there but it also informs me when the car was registered and how many owners its had.
Does that info come from the DVLA?
Presumably if it does, the DVLA must make money from providing non-personal information to companies like this?
{moderators footnote - please be aware that texting this number will cost you £3.00 (2 x £1.50 replies from carspotter.co.uk) plus your standard text messaging charge} Read more
According to reuters (tinyurl.com/nhr5pk )
"The information for CarSpotter's service comes from the same companies that supply data to UK car dealers."
Hi guys
I was wondering if someone could help me please, I currently have a VW bora and the rear cabin space is tight for my wife and for my 2 year old who sits in his chair when you recline his chais when sleeping his feet touch the passenger seat infront unless you realy pull that seat forward which makes it uncomfortble for the passenger in front.
I wanted to change the car ASAP but realy like the bmw 330d m sport ( as i owned a m3 evo 4 door previously) the drive and smoothness of these cars and engines.
what i am struggling with is that the rear cabin size of the e46 330d and e60 530d seem similar?
i baisically measured the bench width the 530d was 1" wider than the 330d and if i set the driver seats up the same and measured from the back seat back rest to the driver seat ( where your knees would touch ) there was no diffrence both were near as damn it 30" my bora is 27".
where the 530d is bigger from what i could gather is the boot which is about 10" deeper when measured from the inside and nose is longer the car is abouit 16" longer than the 330d and 4" wider.
I realy prefer a smaller nibbler car to drive and park so i would realy want to go for the 330d but if the cabin is bigger on 530d for comfort sake i would go with it,
was hoping somebody either has owned both or has experiance with both or maybe more conclusive test results.
appreciate any input or advice
thank you in advance

The problem is that little kids are too small to fold their legs down into the footwell> instead their legs tend to go across the main seaot base and stick into the back of the front seats. So what you need (as much as leg rom) is a short rear seat base so that the kids can drop their legs into the footwell
I used the Halfords stuff in the blue container when I had the fan washers on a Passat. It kept the nozzles clear, unlike some cheaper stuff. The facelift Skoda also has fan windscreen washers.
However , my concern is with the headlight washers on my Elegance. I assume they have plastic lenses which may be sensitive to solvents. Can anyone set my mind at rest that no damage will be caused?

Another vote in favour of VAG screenwash. I use it in all our cars, and it'a amazingly cheap (particularly as it comes from VAG main dealers) and effective - no smearing and never freezes in winter.
It has the Skoda badge as well as others on it, so although I'm sure that it won't be a problem on headlamp lenses, you would have a justifiable claim against the dealer if it was.
Hi People,
My 1st time here - I have been issued with a parking notice for parking on a unauthorised parking at high bank side in Stockport by a private company.
My partner was in the car while I was in the solicitors when she saw the parking attendants she moved EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS SAT IN THE CAR!
We received a letter through the post saying that they hadn?t received payment for a ticket! - they sent a photographic evidence that we had been parked there and we sent a letter appealing saying my partner was sat in the car and moved it when she saw the traffic wardens.
they have now written to us 2 months later saying they have not upheld our appeal and have to pay £150 even though my partner was sat in the car!
They are apparently a member of BPA because they quite the guidelines that they have sent the letter even if we haven?t received it then we still have to pay the increased amount - even though they are not registered on the BPA website
The company is Valid Parking Ltd
Can anyone help with this!

Sounds like a private parking company...
if so.....
They cannot enforce a penalty by law.
Ignore them, it will fizzle out in the end, I took one to the end last year, they tried to intimidate me into paying....fat chance !
Don't write back to them, it's not unknown for similar outfits to copy signatures.
E Mail them if you want to tell them where to go, but you're not obliged to communicate in any way
Plenty on here to read about it.
They make their money from people who roll over and pay up

Sister needs a new car pronto, and has boiled-down her selection to the above 3. Max spend 6000 quid. All 2005/6 cars, petrol-engined, under 30,000 miles and intends to keep for a very long time.
Which would you choose for a long, trouble-free and economic life?
I've advised her to avoid the Fusion, and prefer the Astra. Thks, N. Read more
BB will be pleased, his choice!
Well someone's got to buy them I suppose, the Ford dealer will be jumping up and down with joy....
I've an X-Reg Fiesta 1.25 Zetec.
The rear indicators, brakes lights and number plate light are all working fine however when I put the headlights the rear lights do not come on.
I have tried replacing all fuses related to the lights and nothing helped.
I have read elsewhere that it could be a faulty switch (located in the steering column) but I'd have thought if that was the case I would have lost all lights at the rear.
I have added nothing new electrical-wise any time recently.
Can anyone help.....?
Cheers. Read more
Can't be the switch.Could be 2 bulbs faulty or poor contacts to the rear lamp holders.hth

I get endless warnings of low brake fluid when the reservoir is brim full. one suspects a faulty fluid level sensor (?). Would it be safe to put a short across the pins of the unplugged sensor plug to give some respite from the false warnings ? Read more
Me too on my 2000 year 1.8! I think it must be something to do with the fact that the light indicator is shared between the handbrake warning and low fluid, so it is definitely related to the handbrake switch, and probably rooted in the electronics behind the dash.
I had a new switch fitted by a Peugeot main dealer. This has significantly reduced the number of false indications, but not eliminated them!. I have learnt to live with it.
Hi i have a major problem with my car was driving out of the petrol station then suddenly the car went dead try to re-start it was turring over but not firing up took it to small garage to start of with they use there diagnostic scanner on it got no reading at all then they took it to another 2 garages who also could get nothing from scanning then finally took it to the peugeot dealership with all there expertise got nothing from scanning.Apparently something in the peugeot is preventing a dignosttic scan to find the cause why it wont start.
Instead now they have 2 strip the car and check each part on the car to find the fault charging me 45 pound per hour in the process. so my question would be what are the most likely causes which could do this so hopefully i can narrow down the part or parts causing this.
Also if anybody has had a similar problem with there may also help to.
According to the peugeot dealership this is the first time this has happen when they could not scan a peugeot feel like im being spun a line to be honest. Read more
Cars are just too complicated for their, and our own, good and it will get worse as the politicos blame us for climate anything'.
For your problem, could I suggest another dealer? I bet a dealer in Calais could sort in in minutes, if it was mine, I would go there. I would also get a french car serviced in Calais, or wherever you go on holiday in France.
