I am repairing the brakes on my sons Citroen AX Dimention. How do i remove the pins which secure the brake pads in? I have coated them with WD40 and left overnight. Also i have tried to heat up the pins, although had to stop when the rubber boot around the Caliper piston caught fire. Having bent two pin punch sets i have run out of ideas. Can anyone help.

Hi all, my wifes corsa won't start, good battery, got spark but no feed to fuel pump, it will run by priming with petrol, anyone have any ideas please? Read more
Thanks Bell Boy.
The light on the dash stays on and not flash.
I will look at relay later.
The internal fan on the wifes focus has stopped working. There is nothing on 1 to 4 of the settings..
I have had this problem before on an old car and it was the heater resistor so I changed this today but it still does not work.
Another other suggestions would be a great help.... Read more
I think I would be checking the fuse and motor first.(access is easy ,behind glovebox).hth
Hi,
I recently bought a second hand Megane and there's a couple of small issues I need to sort out.
1. The central locking isn't working on the driver's door. What could be causing this? Faulty motor perhaps?
2. No water comes out of the windscreen washer jets, either at the front or the back. The motors sound like they're working and there's water in the washer bottle.
TIA for any help!

The pump's in the reservoir and the reservoir is under the front offside wing. Bit fiddly to get to. Remove filler neck from inside engine compartment (one screw), then jack up front offside, remove wheel and wheelarch liners. This will let you get to the washer hoses, which are clipped on. Mark them to make sure they go back in the right place. At this point you can check if they are clear and may not need to actually remove the reservoir. Motor can be tested in situ by your assistant switching it on. At this point, if it works, you might get wet depending on your position.

I had a disturbing experience of wheel nuts coming loose at start of my journey through France earlier this month July 2009.
After 2 nights stay near Paris I continued my journey south, and after about 15kms I started to notice regular knocking sound from the rear left side of the car. I decided to come off the motorway at the next junction and found a nearby supermarket carpark to drive around and inspect wheels & underside of the car.
I could see nothing amiss under the car, although I thought it could have been the rear exhaust box rattling against the chassis under certain road conditions. I attempted to execute some rapid turn and stops around the empty carpark, but couldn't really induce the noise again. The tyres and wheels looked fine. I therefore set off again, but had got only about another 5 km down a dual carriage with some fast roundaboubts to here the noise again but more noticeably. I parked in an emergenyc layby and, following my wife's helpful suggestion that she hoped that the wheels were not about to fall off (I jest not), carefully inspected the wheel nuts on the left rear. I was astonished to find that they were not even finger tight - including the locking nut - (so I think that largely rules out a random theft / vandal attempt). I then check the other wheels, and ALL of them had loose wheel nuts to a certain degree. I proceeded to tighten them up, and set off on the rest of my journey - 500 miles to south of France. On my arrival at the my holiday destination and on my return 10 days later the wheel nuts had remained tightly in place.
At first I was blaming the garage where the car had been serviced a couple of days earlier, including fitting my summer alloys with new tyres all round. However, I had driven 250 miles, and had two nights parked at my hotel with some interim short journeys and there had been no indication of a problem at that point. Then I recalled that on the day before the wheel nut experience, I had been parked all day (1130 - 2200) at Disneyland in full sun on one of the hottest days they have had - low 30s degC.
I therefore now wonder if there had been extreme differential heating, and then cooling that night (I think there had been some thundery showers that night), which resulted in the wheel nuts becoming slightly loosened, and which progressively became worse the next day over the first 15km that I drove.
Do you have any thoughts on this one?
Incidentally it has now been 2 weeks and they have remained totally tight!!
Yours

Quizman is spot on. Different wheels & the contact surface probably had rust & dirt in slightly different position on the hubs. The wheels needed checking after 100 miles.
If the garage had left them loose they would of been rattling in a few miles not 250 miles later
I used the M25 twice over the weekend. On both occasions because of heavy traffic/timing I ended up using the services at Thurrock. In all honesty the coffee was awful and the food nearly as bad. Prices very high. Does anybody know of a cafe or similar nearby, with sensible opening hours, where one can get some decent food and not walk away feeling you have been robbed? Read more
Another vote for the Rainbow & Dove. I work in Harlow & have been there several times.

I had a 136 (8 port head and bigger main bearings, like a 135, but with a carburettor and aftermarket electronic ignition), at the same time as a very rough 130 Rapid that was only a whisker slower. The 135 was rare.
My first Skoda was a 120 GLS with swing axles and an oil cooler. It went very well but couldn't cruise at 90 like a 130. It would do it, but sounded a bit stressed. Only had a 4 speed gearbox.
Driven gently on French A roads cruising at 55 to 65, it could return nearly 50 mpg. Excellent car provided you didn't lift off suddenly while belting round a bend. Even then you could retrieve it, but the process tended to alarm drivers coming the other way...
:o}
The 105, especially in the state of tune of an average British example, must have been a real slug though. Probably the inspiration for the ghastly Jasper Carrott.
Citroen xantia 1.9TD unpredictable Blower fan characteristic, looking for a Remedy, please help.
Problem: Temperature rises gradually if I drive more than 50 KM distance continuously.
Action Taken So far:
1. Change the coolant expansion tank cap to avoid any coolant leak while coolant very hot with great pressure.
Still the same problem Exists.
2. Flush radiator and change the coolant.
Still the same problem Exists.
3. Radiator Mechanic advice to check the blower fan irregularity.
Symptoms: After on the ignition, and on the air condition the blower didn?t turned on, but after few minutes, two blower starts to run. Off the car and redo again the same, blower didn?t start instantly. After some time both fan turns on. Run for a while and driver side fan only working other side not working. So the radiator specialist suggests its blower fan problem. Blower fan didn?t help to cool the engine. Causing temperature went high.
Problem, which am facing,
In My Place very difficult to find a continental car workshop, there is two. But this problem they suggest me to go air condition workshop, air condition workshop say not familiar with this model. So my head go other side and don?t know what to do. So I made search in the forums, Some good heart suggest this
Solution 1: w3ww.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=4&t=5...6
Solution 2: Some say make the blower fan work continuously, when u start the car blower also starts, when u off the car the blower also off.
Which solution is the good for me? Or any other solutions. Am a poor monthly wage guy who cant afford to change car or heavy maintenance. Please help. Am using this car for my family transportation. Thanks in advance.

I will assume your problem is with your radiator cooling fans as most cars only have one blower fan. I must confess I do not know the Xantia but I have had similar problems on a Peugeot 406 TD and I believe the system is the same.
The Peugeot always runs both cooling fans at the same time, it makes a low speed by putting the power through the fans one after the other so each has 6 volts. With your air conditioning on, the fans should be working even if the engine is cold.
The most common problem is the connections to the relays - there should be three. On the Peugeot they are behind a cover between the fans, they are green. If these appear good examine the connections to the fans and the wiring.
Hello all. I am still trying to find the ultimate value all rounder, Work horse-sunday morning blaster-commuter-motorway cruiser-Gt; You get the idea, The choices so far are;
Nissan Primera GT
BMW 325tdi (Not sure on this one)
Peugeot 306 D turbo
Ford Puma 1.7 (may be a bit small)
Maybe just maybe a Seat (leon or Toledo td)
All these cars can be purchased in decent condition for under£1500, All are meant to be a great drive (Don't know much about the BM or Seat)
Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome as there is just so much choice, Right now the Primera seems like the best move but tomorrow it'll be something else...Help. Thanks Read more
306 D Turbo, no question. Great car with a great engine.

Glad you are getting it sorted.
Just a note. I have just (yesterday) replaced pads on younger son's 106... no the other one: not referred to above.
One pin came out easily tapping with a centre punch. The other did not budge.
Answer? A lump hammer. The shock of one firm bang was enough to drive the other pin out easily.. (the other side was all easy to remove as I had replaced the suspension about 6 months prior (£15 from a scrapyard).
