Can anyone tell me what the timing belt change is on a 2.0 HDI 2005 model of this car please. I have looked on the net and keep coming across different answers.

Thanks

I've got the same engine in my 2003 Picasso and the recommended belt change is at 8 years or 100000 miles whichever comes first.Of course that depends on the type of running it's done.I imagine a lot of stop/start driving may necessitate more frequent changing than m-way mileage.

Hi, A question about my daughters newly acquired 2001 Vauxhall Corsa SXi, 1.2 16v 3 door.

Car appears very tidy for year and the only thing I can find fault with is the drivers seat, in that the lever to tilt the seat back forwards appears to be jammed and immovable i.e. seat back can't tilt forward to let out a rear passenger. The front passenger seat works fine with just a light touch. What I want to ask is:

a) To save time and effort, is this a fault that can be cured fairly easily and if so any tips/tricks on what to look for and do? If not, am I best off looking to get another seat from a breaker?

b) Is this likely to be an Mot failure point? In all other respects the seat is fine, but i would imagine a tester would try to tilt the seat forwards so as to get at the rear seat belts for checking, and thus discover the problem described.

Any advice gratefully received.

its not an mot failure as such may generate an advise but drivers seat don't seem to be moved about much and especially exiting (i dont mean that it should not be used but most rear passengers exit on the safe side ie passnger side so the drivers side is somewhat stiffer/partially seized ) any way its sorted now, regards TB

My Matiz cuts out after about 2 miles on every trip; it usually restarts after a few minutes, though lately it has been taking much longer, and sometimes has been very difficult to start first thing. I bought the car off a friend 2 months ago. 4 garage visits have led to replacing the distributor, the fuel injector and the valve-pulse module. The last two were by the local Chevrolet dealer after a computer check.
Now the local Chevrolet dealer says the computer wants me to replace the immobiliser ECU, cost £330. It seems likely that the parts they replaced are in working order (£95 to replace).
My question is, am I being ripped off? What if replacing the ECU does not solve the problem?
If a friend asked me to look at their computer because the screen wasn't working, I would not simply replace the monitor, signal lead and graphics card. I'd swap out each part.
I know very little about cars, and would be grateful for any feedback. Read more

"wiring loom" is the interconnecting wires from the various parts of the car - rather than being routed singly, they are taped together where a number of wires take a common path to form a "wiring loom".

I am trying to find the Paint Code on my 1993 Peugeot 106 but cannot find it anywhere. Some help finding it would be appreciated.

From my experience the code (3 or 4 letters) should be stencilled on to the nearside front suspension turret.

Hi, my sister has just called me to say her voyager has failed it's mot due to the horn not working. after a little internet research and some more questioning her cruise control doesn't work and the airbag light is permanently lit, from what i can gather these symptoms point to a fault with the clock spring behind the steering wheel, i also gather this was fixed under a recall in the usa and wondered if the same applied over here? there is no mention of the recall in the car by car breakdown but i wondered if someone such as merlin tech who posts here frequently about voyagers may know? i would ring the local dealer but in the past ive found them to be fairly unhelpful.

cheers

Any suggestion son where I might get my camper serviced?

I have just imported it from Japan, and had intended to get it serviced by the garage who collected it from the from the docks and did the necessaries to get it registered. However I haven't been thrilled with how they have handled things, and I have now lost confidence in them.

What I want done is a full service, plus change of cambelt+tensioners+waterpump (vehicle over 10 years old, so I'm not taking any chances on whether those items have been changed). Not exactly rocket-science, but while the engine in this van (3.0 TD) was used in some UK-spec Toyotas, access is a little more difficult in the mid-engine of the Hiace, plus the combination of 4WD and an automatic gearbox will be unfamiliar to those used to working on UK-spec Toyotas.

Once I decided to look around for other garages, I remembered that I know a rather impressive garage here in Bradford which operates mainly as a van and car-hire outfit. They maintain their vehicles themselves, and I have hired some machines from them which have been run up to very high mileages but still run beautifully -- I was particularly impressed with a Mondeo estate that had over 250,000 miles on the clock but still ran beautifully. My thinking is that a garage which maintains its own vehicles up to a high mileage will know what it's doing and work to decent standards, and they have given me some encouraging estimates over the phone.

However, they aren't working on a lot of vehicles like this, so I'd be interested to hear if anyone can suggest any alternatives within reasonable distance of Bradford, particularly if it's a garage with experience of this sort of vehicle.

I'm a little wary that some garages move into rip-off mentality when they see a woman owner, so anything that comes with a recommendation would be welcome. Read more

Nice one NW, I had a Hiace van in the 90's for my mobile tuning business - drove like a car, in fact I prefered driving it to my car!
I had a Hymer with the Mercedes engine about 12 years ago - LHD manual and a beast to drive, luvly interior though, centre lounge & rear kitchen.
My neighbour has a Bailey Pageant caravan (I'm in Cornwall) and he just takes it around Cornwall, when people on the caravan sites ask him where he is from - he does gets some looks when he replies Cornwall :-D

Ordered a Sat Nav and case from Amazon - from one of their `Market place` sellers . It arrived a couple of days later in a heat sealed plastic envelope - signed for it, but no case inside. Just the Sat Nav and the invoice for both items.

Contacted Amazon by telephone, they sent me an email form to contact the seller (also sent an email direct to seller) No response to emails and its now around a week.

However, got through to seller on the phone (delivery day) said they would "send another"

Its nearly a week later still no case.

Rang Amazon - have to give a few more days then a claim form could be filled. Now I questioned the Amazon person but could not discover whether we were still waiting for the original case or whether it was a package sent since I first rang..

1) I`m wary now of buying two items from one seller - as once signed for surely you are in a weak position?

2) re this missing case - it`s `only` £10 and fortunately not the Sat Nav itself. IF it doesn`t arrive on the latest specified date what would you do next.
In particular with reference to Amazon `claims` it seems you are limited to five lifetime claims from them.
Given that I`m making much bigger purchases from them such as a recent £1,000 TV - it seems a shame to use one of your five `lifes` up for a £10 case.

Contact Visa instead then and let them take it off my bill and sort it with Amazon themselves? (I`m tempted to do this to be honest)

Of course the issue is with the `market place seller` but being relatively new to all of this I would welcome your advice.

In particular (for my future purchases) is the two items from one seller a risk it`s better not to take. Leaving Amazon out of it - are scams run along those lines with private sellers and what can you do about it.

Thanks

Humph,

You're clearly too much of a gent to mention my national team.

Just checked the score from Cardiff - seems the best English cricketer at the moment is called Rain.

Yes. Point taken. Have somehow got the question into my head - and then forgotten to actually use my head for its main purpose. Comes from teaching where definitive answers are always being asked and some attempt is made to give them . But thanks WillDeBeest for putting me straight.

I wonder if there are any legal eagles out there that could possibly help me please.

I have had damage to my coil springs,(three in all) which I feel is as a result of speed cushions installed in the area where I live. These are the only cushions I encounter on any of my journeys. I have contacted my local council, who have said the cushions comply with the Regulations (road humps) 1996. and they have been maintained. I dispute this, but need some help proving it.

The cushions involved are rubberised ones, bolted down to the road surface. In the Regulations 1996 it says that "it has no vertical face of any material forming pat of that road hump exceeding 6mm measured vertically from top to bottom of that face". The cushion edges are indeed 6mm, however, the "on/off" ramps are off the road, and I have measured it, and photographed it as 25mm from road surface to top of cushion. The edges will not stay flat to the road, as debris has got underneath. Also, there are several bolts protruding above the cushions as well.

My question for any legal eagles out there is: Do the speed cushions have to be attached to the road surface?. I cannot find anything on the Regulations which states this, and having contacted the Dept. of Transport, they can only refer me to the Regulations. This appears to be a grey area, and I wonder whether anyone reading this has any experience of this, or have they come across it during their course of legal work.

I would have thought, as a layman, that the speed cushions SHOULD be attached to the road surface all way around, (as the tarmac ones are), however, I cannot find anything in which I can throw at the local council. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks all.
