Has anyone used the Brennan JB7 hard drive cd recorder?
Is it as good as they say?

I saw a couple of traffic wardens writeing tickets beside cars parked on single yellow lines this afternoon (Sunday). I thought that singles did not apply on Sundays anywhere.

Similar story in Durham. 10 years ago I would pop into Durham for shopping, now with the parking gestapo hiding in wait I simply go to the local out of town supermarket. I think Durham actually offer free parking now on a Sunday, but I gave up going there to avoid paying NCP to park in my home town.
Job Done - Hurray for Durham City Councils forward thinking 'bus lane' mentality ;-)
Yup. Thats probably why theres a vast amount of empty shops in Durham now.
This on my dads car, we have already had the CV boots and control arms replaced a couple of months ago. The lower wishbones are just over a year old. When steering left the front suspension makes a creeping and knocking noise. It also does this over bumps. I know the top mount bushes are now in a desperate state and need doing but what could be causing this steering knock? The steering does have PAS and apart from the knock it works perfectly. It also does it more at tight low speed turns.
MOT is due soon so we need to get this sorted. Read more
It does. The was making some horrible knocking noise so my dad took it to our mechanic who is a bit causual and usualy says wait till the MOT. He said two things were dangerious and needing doing now, the split CV boots and the tie rods. It cost around £120. He also replaced some arms as they were about to snap the he replaced the lower wishbones last year though.
He also said (which I knew anyway from the racket the front suspension makes, most Fiesta MK4s do!) that the front upper bushes are completly none existant. He said this is an MOT failure but can wait as he knew the drums also needed rebuilding which we had done a few weeks ago.
The Kumho's we had fitted to the front 8k miles ago seem to be wearing quite fast but the wear is at least even. It does suggest something is wrong with the suspension some where though.
I am also suspecting some welding will need doing for this MOT, and I know by next year some welding on the wheel arch will need to bed one. The problem is my parents can't afford a new car, and this Fiesta is mechanicaly very good (good engine, clutch, gearbox etc) the only time rocker cover has ever come off is to adjust the tappets, not bad for an 81k Fiesta.
Will just have to wait to see what happens at MOT time, I think £300 is the max budget.
Hi all
Please help...We have an 05 1.9DCI Renault Megane. We have had it for approx 5 months now and yesterday we had a message apper on the computer that said 'check injection' and the service message came up. We pulled into a car park, left it for a while, came back turned it on and the message was gone. Great we thought until later that day after the car had been standing outside the house for a few hours the message reappered we drove back nto town. Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be ad if it likley to be expensive to fix. Could it be fixed by ourselves or would we need to take it too a garage?
Any advice is welcome.
Thanks

I have never ever ridden a motorcycle before and today I decided it was time I learned and booked a CBT :O
The main reason is I am fed up with congestion and boring cars. Is it possible for a 46 year old grumpy bloke to do this without killing himself? Read more
congrats on passing your test and enjoy many miles on your new bike.
Due to the mad rush of my holiday and getting my car ready in time last Friday I had to get a new back box. Took it to a fastfit they tell me I needed a complete catback consisting of a new mid box, new back box and new rubbers and mountings. The new box seems very very secure (I've had bad experience with this from other fast fit places with my dads cars). The infamous rear knocking noise caused by back box hitting the rear chasis is also cured however it still sounds like there is a little blow. I have done the back box preasure test and as far as I can tell its not leaking any where so I suspect its the silencer itself which is cheap and substandard. I am very happy with the work I am not so happy with the part so do I just put up with a noisy silencer or go back? I am not sure what the rules are as I am not desputing quality of the workmanship. Just a bit worried this could fail an MOT although it would still be under warranty if that was the case.
My original silencer was a Bossil with GM logo stamped on it and a 2003 date so I am guessing it may just be cheap copy which is not quite to GM standards and for £105 I didn't expect any more, just wish it wasn't so damn noisy!
Just wondered what peoples opinions are and if it is worth asking the fastfit centre to have another look or just live with it. Read more
This thread is now very out of date, somebody replied to a post above which has bouught this one down. Since fitting I had a safety check done and found the exhaust was missing some rubbers even though they replaced them when they fitted it.
Still not happy but simply cannot afford an OEM one due to other things I have had to get fixed.
car just passed its mot, and now drivers seat belt locks in but dosen't go click. i ve read this a common problem with corsa, was wondering would it be ok to leave it like this. Read more
i can answer my own question now. seat belt buckle gave out this morning. so pluged into passenger side. as it happens i have a spare from a 1997 model, but again haynes manual say they changed slightly in 1999. any way going into me garage now to try and sort it out
Hi there, I don't know if anyone can help me but I've a 1994 Renault Master T35D camper van with a non-turbo 2.5 diesel engine. Recently it's been getting air in the fuel system to the point that I can't start it from cold without first priming the fuel filter by pressing the plunger pump around 30 times. After that it starts ok.
Last weekend while on a cycling trip I noticed fuel dripping out from under the engine. It's not much, just a couple of drips every 10 seconds or so, and it goes away shortly after the engine's stopped. Looking underneath isn't very helpful because the diesel is everywhere but it's mainly (when stationary) coming off the oil filter (definitely not oil!) and from what I assume is the fuel injector system, above where the throttle arm is.
Looking at the engine from the top, there's no sign of leakage; it seems to be happening roughly halfway down the engine downwards.
When the van is started from cold the leak doesn't appear if it's left to warm up gently, only appearing when having been driven for a mile or two (I assume the action of revving the engine and changing gear has something to do with it).
Is anyone familiar with these engines or this problem? As far as I can see there's no breaks in the pipe although it's almost impossible to see down the side from the top or underneath as the engine's mounted in the middle.
If there's any detail I've missed, let me know!
Many thanks in advance,

Hi James, many thanks for your reply!
I've found the culprit, thanks to your suggestion. I took off the black cover and had a look at the injectors, one of which had some diesel around it. As I was tightening it up (it's fine now!) I dropped my spanner down the side of the throttle body; shoved my hand down to get it and caught what I assume is the diesel return pipe (a rubber pipe that joins a metal pipe that's attached to every injector). As I caught it it just fell in half and lots of fuel went everywhere.
So, I'll be down the motor factors tomorrow for a new 4" length of pipe and then I'll be laughing next weekend :D
Thanks hugely for your help, it's saved me a potentially big garage bill! If you're ever up near Hadrian's Wall there's a cup of tea in it for you ;)
Cheers,
Michael
My Expert Van clutch has decided it doesnt want to play anymore and I need to change it. It is a 1999 non-turbo diesel. Has annyone any experience in a clutch change on one of these? I changed the glow plugs and they were a nightmare. I am just hoping it isnt an engine out job. Any advice very gratefully received. Thanks, Stuart Read more
Thanks BB, I am sending it to the garage and getting CPR ready for when the bill comes in! At least it is a garage I can trust which is lucky as the van is 100 miles from home!
Cheers
My beloved old Polo will start up, rev to about 10, but then either decide to just stop or wait until ive just started to move off and then stop. Happens a lot when im idle at traffic lights etc too. (It now idles below 10). Sometimes takes a good 10-15 minutes to start up again, and then another 10 mins of revving to stabilise it. Am noticing that it is now dropping revs in 2nd gear too - although still runs a dream at speed or on a constant. Read more
had same problem with my polo, took it to VW for a diagnostics and they said it was a throttle body problem and I needed a new one at a cost of £480.
Spoke to a friend who is a mechanic and he said Polos are renowned for this problem, it was the throttle body, but it was just getting clogged up. I took off the air filter and got some carb cleaner from halfords for about a fiver. Turn the engine on and get someone to keep the car ticking over, then spray the carb cleaner and to the throttle body, lots of smoke will pour out but this is ok, its just grime and old oil. Mine ran fine after that, still quite low revs but not cutting out, I give it a spray every few months just to keep it clean now.

It also depends on the programme use on the model. If you choose economy then power and water use goes down although the length of the wash cycle can get longer.
