Could Washer Solvent Damage Headlights? - Glaikit Wee Scunner {P}
I used the Halfords stuff in the blue container when I had the fan washers on a Passat.It kept the nozzles clear, unlike some cheaper stuff. The facelift Skoda also has fan windscreen washers.
However , my concern is with the headlight washers on my Elegance. I assume they have plastic lenses which may be sensitive to solvents. Can anyone set my mind at rest that no damage will be caused?

I think they are made of polycarbonate and pretty tough, more so than the surrounding paint. Screenwash used as directed on the tin should not be a problem. I have polished mine with Autoglym for years without any damage.

I got severely ridiculed on another forum for starting a thread about screenwash, but all I can say is that the screenwash from VW dealers is one of the few products that I've found is cheaper and more effective than nearly all of the other screenwashes I've tried, and this case it would comply (too strong a word?) with your car so there shouldn't a problem.

Bought Octavia 2 in Dec 2007 with polycarbonate headlight lenses and have been using Halfords screenwash since new. The lenses are still crystal clear. No need to worry!

I think most cars have plastic headlights these days and Halfords would have a big problem if their product caused damage

Thanks for that confirmation.
I too have used VW screenwash ,as a bottle always came with a service.IIRC one litre cost the same as 5 litres of Halfords stuff and the recommended dilution ratio was the same. The final straw was when the concentrate dribbled over the upholstery. I declined to pay for it again.

Another vote in favour of VAG screenwash. I use it in all our cars, and it'a amazingly cheap (particularly as it comes from VAG main dealers) and effective - no smearing and never freezes in winter.

It has the Skoda badge as well as others on it, so although I'm sure that it won't be a problem on headlamp lenses, you would have a justifiable claim against the dealer if it was.
