I have received car tax reminder from DVLA.
It says to use it after 5th of the month when tax expires.
So far, DVLA used to say after 15th of the month.
Did they change the date or its a typo?

Just had one of those 'nice little bike experiences '..nothing special, been to a barbie at the bike club. Got the Silverwing out for a change.
Left at 9.30 to come home, only about 4 miles and all urban, 30 mph.
Got on the main road, still light, not a bit of traffic anywhere, maintained 30 all the way with every set of lights on green. No need for visor, lovely smells coming from wood fires in houses and odours coming from restaurants and take-aways
Makes you glad to be out on 2 wheels !

Sort of days that are made for biking, well done for only going 4 miles, days like that tempting to take a scenic route home. Bit bad when its now June and people still need to use wood fires to keep warm. When is summer coming.
Happy biking !!!!
Did anyone notice the Rover 600 in tonights Ashes to Ashes? Not on the road in 1982.

Talking of Robin Hood, in an epesode of this I laughed to see a couple of white vans travelling along a road in the distance.
Heartbeat has some historical anomalies too.
I was wondering if anyone has been caught out like myself two years ago :-
insurance was due for renewal (one week left to run)
not to impressed with the renewal figure so I phone them asking for a better price.
They wouldn't do a better price so I said that I would not renew and let it run out.
I then got new insurance from another provider to start when the previous insurance run out.
unknown to me the original insurance had been cancelled and a cheque sent out (only about £10 for the last week), with a letter saying sorry to hear you go.
I received this letter two weeks later (after the initial renewal phone call) courtesy of second class stamp.
So I had in effect driven around for one week with no insurance.
In the eyes of the law I would have been guilty yet I would not have known anything.
Car would have been impounded if pulled over (thank heavens I had not).
insurance companies make me angry even to this day (and this was two years ago).
So has anyone ever been caught out like this ? Read more
It was only when I got two renewals in the following year I realised!
If only my insurance was cheap enought that I could pay for two policies without noticing!
Hi everyone.
Just after some advice. I am not a car dealer, but a plumber. I sold a used car which was modified on Saturday. The buyer purchased the car off ebay and paid £100.00 deposit to secure the car on Wednesday. I arranged the MOT on Thursday, which it failed and I then had the repairs done on Friday and re-tested on Friday afternoon. The buyer came Saturday morning with his brother and wanted to buy the car there and then without even driving the car. I insisted that he drove the car and didn't take any further money until he was happy with the car. I drove the car off my drive and down the road, then let him drive the rest of the way. He was happy with the car at that stage and then went to the post office to tax the car and transfer ownership. On return to the house, he paid me the remainder of the money at the agreed price.
He then drove 150 miles home in the car. On Sunday, he rang me to ask me some details on the alarm that is fitted to the car, again at this stage no problems.
On Tuesday I received a call saying that he had 'written off' the car, because the wheel had fallen off and he had an RAC or AA report stating that the wheel was 'incorrectly fitted' and that was why the wheel had fallen off. His fault reported was that the alloy wheel centering cone was fitted to the face of the hub before the wheel spacer. I stated that that was complete rubbish and was physically impossible to do and would leave a big gap between the hub and the wheel and the wheel would not fit on the studs in that order. Also that he drove the car before purchase and there was no wheel wobble or noises or any concern on the road test. I also pointed out that my son had driven the car for 5 years in 'that' condition.
He has now asked me to pay £500.00 towards the cost of the repair and he will repair the car himself as he works in a car renovation and rebuilding garage. He states it needs a new front bumper/spoiler because it is cracked and no-one knows how to use glass fibre and 2 new wings to repair the 1 damaged. Where do I stand on this. Have I any liability. He has told me to await a letter from his 'family solicitor'. I have a signed receipt stating the car is sold as seen. Also he has had the car 4 days and will have covered around 200 - 250 miles in the car since purchase. He also said that the cars bodywork is not in excellent condition and that was what he expected. I pointed out that the car is 17 years old and in very good condition for a car of its age and that he did see the car before handing over any money.
slt - and made make/model non-specific Read more
Good, hopefully thats the last you'll hear of it...
Am off to Le Mans this weekend. Really excited as I have never been before. In fact, never been to any form of motor race!
Going to try to get there in time for the drivers parade on Friday, will watch the start and stay for a few hours on Saturday, visit during the night and go for the finish on Sunday.
I am only going because I am in a position to do so, being newly retired. It has always had an aura of glamour about it. It is one of the must do's to tick off in my book of things to experience before I die.
Anyone else ever been? Any useful advice (other than to stay alive until I at least get there!)? Read more
I was looking at this piece of film from 1969 of a GT40 going round the track. The driver commented that at the Mulsanne Bend he has to brake from 200mph to 30mph in 300yds. Doesn't your face fall off doing that?
Another commentator mentioned that it was a great weekend for the French. I assume that very few Brits' made their way there in those days, apart from die hard 5* leaded petrol heads with money.

Tiff and Jason can certainly drive. "Wookie" Ford can be amusing and I might have a slight crush on VBH but as for the rest of them.........
hi i just want a bit of advice i want to buy a car as a taxi and was thinking of a honda based on that they are supposed to be reliable i would prefer the diesal based on fuel consumption but i know they have problems injectors turbo's etc i would be doing about 40,000 miles a year thats why iam considering the petrol as i know they have no problems what so ever and the money i would save in fuel consumption getting the diesal could backfire if say the turbo went then the money i would have saved is now being spent and more on fixing it so can someone help me please Read more
iam swayed now between a honda accord ctdi but iam more tempted by the toyota avensis d4d based on the fact they dont suffer any turbo or injector problems but i prefer the honda based on looks and so on thats why i would like to know if these honda diesals are reliable enough for taxi use i dont really want to fix a turbo or injectors so at the min its the toyota that wins but if anyone can tell me otherwise that the honda is as reliable as it should be i might think twice
On above vehicle wastegate valve vac port
getting 27 inhg. But on port out side to vnt actuater no vacuum at all.
A attaching a jump wire from wastegate valve supply terminal to solonoid
valve supply terminal and a temperary jump wire from solonoid earth to
a temperary earth. After starting engine solonoid valve actuates. This
valve has a 2 pin feed red/white 12v feed. Earth return to ecu brown/yellow.
I have disconnected ecu multi plug and getting a 12v feed at earth return
pin no 62. With ecu plug re attached and connecting multimeter across
solonoid valve 2 pin plug ign on voltage at this point is only 9.8 volts
any feed back greatly accepted

sounds like either the male or female connector has a break in it. Prob. worth changing the N75 valve for a new one -- they can commonly fail -- if that doesn't work then the fault is probably in the connector plug or the wiring leading to the plug.
Good luck
