Ok folks, it's been a while - how you all doing?
What is this all about -
Recently I have noticed a problem when driving, which gets noticeably louder at speed. It is a drooning, but not quite grinding noise, which is most noticable at about 30 to 50. It seems to get slightly worse when i turn right, but disaapears when i turn left at that speed. When i first noticed it i thought tyres. I am running Conti 2's on the front and they are lowish on tread but i have run lower with the same tyres with no problems. The pressures are all fine. Also, to add to the confusion, i recently had a service by Dean at 4 rings and he never noticed anything, and i trust his judgement. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? The car is on 87k miles, with no codes or power issues.
Cheers for listening, Clach Read more
Has anybody else find this, you will enter a large estate which might have a 20 sign usualy hidden under a tree, then the only other sign you see is the 30 sign 20 zone ended 1.5 miles further up the road. Surely they should be repeater signs on each 20 zone?
The road in question is Brantingham Road in South Manchester. I know on all the 40 zones near me there are repeater signs every few yards so there is no way you could not know what the speed limit is.
I've spoken to a few of my customers about this and they were not even aware this road had a 20 limit :(. Read more

Hi all , I just had a small shunt - first ever in 18 years of driving !
I was stationary at a junction and the following driver didn't stop in time.
Looked ok at a casual glance but a bit of missing paint and cracks/ripples under the laquer on top the now quite soft bumper .
Ins company notified , claims will get back to me tomorrow.
No obvious injuries to either driver although my shoulders and neck now feel stiff- could be just tense ?
What happens now - I am naive to the process !
Other driver took photo of my bumper - prob no use as damage difficult to see except at certain angles ie looking straight down . Read more
I hope you are all right 3T. Of course better safe than sorry but it didn't sound too bad from your description of the incident.
Before the days of seat belts I was in at least two or three traffic shunts that resulted in bent steering wheels among other damage (not necessarily always driving myself). Can't remember any people being injured in any of them.
Fingers crossed.
Recently bought a cheap 12v->240ac inverter for the car. It has no earth and as a far as I can tell no RCD.
How safe are these units? The environment in which they are being used presents many risks - spilt drinks, wires trapped in metal doors, wires pulled out, children up to no good etc...
I've not heard of any problems with inverters, but then it only seems to be in the last couple of years that they become really popular/cheap. Read more
Don't worry, just figured it out. :-)
I recently changed all 4 of my run flat tyres at the sametime. But since then on two separate occasions, the run flat indicator has activated despite being reset. Any ideas or should I just ignore it. The manafacturers warranty ends 1/9/09. Thanks Read more
Hi guys, i have one question about overheating, i would really appreciate it if someone could answer.
Can an underlying head gasket problem be the CAUSE of overheating problems or the gasket problem is always ONLY the result of overheating? Read more
I have a Citroen XM diesel, well actually I have four, three estates and a hatch. Best car in the world for my needs.
Ive just had a new clutch fitted on my 306 with 188,000 after a catastrophic failure. The only problem is that there is juddering in 1st and reverse.
The car drives fine with no loss of power. Im just wondering if its 'bedding in' or if it needs to go back. Ive never had a new clutch and ive only done 150 miles with it but I dont want to take it back too quickly
cheers Read more
Well he replaced the bearing guide which was wrecked too so ill get it back in and hopefully he will sort it
thanks for the advice
After thinking the tyre had a slow puncture I found that a radial crack about an 1inch long
on the rim was the fault. I would be interested to hear of any VW owners having asimilar problem Read more
Hi there all,
Can anybody help! the car starts fine, whilst idling you can hear a wee intermitten splutter which gets worse when driving. Abit like running out of fuel! Anyone with any idea's.

Just wondering whether it is legal to put any advertisement [not like London taxis - more like just a small ad in bumper etc.] on private cars.
Is this legal?
Is there any company who provides such ad and offers some tiny money for that?
