Hello everybody,

I'm a student from the Netherlands asking anyone who has some spare time, to help me out with my study about car advertisements.

Currently I'm a doing a cross-cultural study about the evaluations of the Dutch and the English people about 20 car ads, which are presented in a online questionnaire. It should take about 7 minutes to fill it in.
I asked many people, but it is really difficult to find enough respondents who actually complete the questionnaire.

So, I'm thanking you in advance. Please enter the URL by clicking:

(Links to a web-page at Radboud University, Netherlands)

If you think it wasn't bad at all, actually kind of fun to fill in the evaluations, maybe you can pass it on to colleagues or friends??

Thanks anyway!

I found some of the adverts you used in the questionnaire interesting - others may want to take part to see how good/bad some adverts are.

This thread is now read only as it's here to get members to complete the on-line questionnaire.

What sort of price are dealers getting for scrappage cars if they can afford to bung a score to these people, and what actually happens to these cars?

The check engine light for my car comes on now and again, (it's on permanently at the moment) the car doesn't go into limp mode. I took it into a Saab dealer last year when it happened and they did a diagnostic check and told me it was the sensor needed cleaning. I am loath to go and pay another £50 to be told the same thing. Does anyone know where in the car this sensor is so that I can clean it myself. Thanks Read more

It's a standard ODB socket and the codes are pretty much as per Vauxhall (the GM effect). I have a GENDAN doofer which plugs into my laptop

All too common issue with any car where the steering shaft is detached from the rack and the column is not locked into central position or the column is not centralised on re-assembly.The airbag coupling or clockspring has only a limited travel(usually around 2.5 turns lock to lock),beyond this ,the flexible printed cicuit will break/fracture.hth

I need to get a friend insured on my car for the motoring holiday so we can share the driving. However the quotes so far cost more than it would cost to hire a car. I got one quote for £130 for two weeks on a 1.2 16v Corsa, he only pays £400 a year for his own car!

Does anybody know of any companies that do this? My own insurance company say no but I will see how much it will be to add him as a named driver.

Thanks.

There's only one way around it - go and get some practice! Tank it up, tootle out along the M56, up the M6 to Preston, back down the M61 and M60 - practice on and off at a few junctions on the way - the worst bit of m-way driving is getting on, and getting off can confuse you with the feeling of speed. Should take a couple of hours and you will be sorted. Or terrified :-) Don't get into the "easier to drive at 55" mentality either - lorries are big and travel at that speed, get it up to 70 so you are not in their way. Get your Dad to go with you and give you some pointers on the way. The amount of time spent worrying about it so far, you could have gone and done it!

M-way driving is easy - look a loooooong way ahead and plan - particularly what everyone else is going to need to do, eg that car in front that is catching that lorry up and not realised, and will need to be in your lane in a minute - and you should hardly ever need to change speed, and it is not that hard work. Granted you will feel knackered the first time... but it does pass!

Find the hoses to and from the intercooler, look for oil weeps / smears around the joints where the hoses fit. Also look for oily smears along the pipes which would indicate a hole or split.

If you can find the turbo there will be smallish rubber tubing near the unit. Then follow that tubing around, to ensure it's all connected properly.

After that, you need diagnostics from a garage.

Ok folks, it's been a while - how you all doing?

What is this all about -

Recently I have noticed a problem when driving, which gets noticeably louder at speed. It is a drooning, but not quite grinding noise, which is most noticable at about 30 to 50. It seems to get slightly worse when i turn right, but disaapears when i turn left at that speed. When i first noticed it i thought tyres. I am running Conti 2's on the front and they are lowish on tread but i have run lower with the same tyres with no problems. The pressures are all fine. Also, to add to the confusion, i recently had a service by Dean at 4 rings and he never noticed anything, and i trust his judgement. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? The car is on 87k miles, with no codes or power issues.

Cheers for listening, Clach Read more
