At the top of this thread is an advert offering new Citroens up to 45% off. This can't all be coming out of the dealer's margin so where is it coming from? Are the cars being sold at cost of manufacture, or even at a loss, to shift them?

Even if they are selling them at cost in Denmark (doubtful), it seems a large difference.
France about 10% dearer than DK; Germany about 25% dearer! Focus 30% dearer in UK than DK, but Mondeo only 4% dearer.
I just bought a Peugeot 206 at the weekend, and drove it for the first time yesterday, and I've noticed that when I reverse, it stops and feels like its going up a steep hill. Also a couple of times when I was stopped at traffic lights the car was still revving and making lots of noise.
My boyfriend test drove it at the weekend and didnt notice any problems with it, and my dad drove it home for me on Sunday which was a half hour journey and he didn't notice any problems, so it could be me doing something wrong?
It's due for its MOT at the end of March, should I wait til then or get it checked out sooner?
Thanks

Sounds like it could be the brake shoes binding/grabbing.
Ask the garage you bought it from to just check everything for you.
if you bought it privately (and have little comeback with the seller) then any garage should be able to investigate and sort it fairly easily/cheaply.

The police really don't do themselves any favours with incidents like this.

'Home Office' forces are the mainstay police forces, then there are the 'non Home Office' ones
examples of other 'non' ones are British Transport Police, Ministry of Defence Police, Atomic Agency...etc
i'd be willing to wager £100 of my hard earnt cash that this story has another side to it. I'm not suggesting the officer was 100% correct and maybe far from it...but.. the story as told will be a bit part...of that i'm certain.
Im planning to change the oil on my daughters year old ka. Can I get to the filter with the claw type wrench and extension ok without lifting the car off the ground ? I'm going to be pulling the old oil through the dip stick with a pella pump. Has anyone changed the oil filter on the ka duratec engine here ? Thanks Lenny.................. Read more
This car is new so should this not be done by a garage for your warranty?
Is the oil sucked out of the filler? not the dipstick.
There still seems to be confusion regarding VED rates for cars registered between 1 March 2001 (2001Y) - 22 June 2006 (2006/55).
According to the Direct Gov website: www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowTo...6
Band K cars (201-225 g/km) will be charged:
£215 in 2009 - 2010 and £245 in 2010 - 2011
* Band K includes cars that have a CO2 figure over 225g/km but were registered before 23 March 2006. These cars will stay in band K.
However, in Honest John's FAQ section (right at the bottom) on VED it states:
Note that the exemption from higher rates for vehicles first registered before 23-3-2006 no longer applies. These CO2 rates apply to all vehicles first registered after March 2001.
This does not correspond to the Direct Gov website?
As I am considering buying a fresh car I need to be sure before I decide to purchase a pre March 2001 X plate car, a post 2001 Y/51 plate just over 225 g/km.....
Definitive clarification would be gratefully appreciated, and if anyone has any info of what happens after 2011..... I believe increases are meant to be in line with inflation? Read more
Surely that would be super - embarrassing ??
There is a road in South Manchester which I use to get to the main Hospital. My Paramedic daughter also uses it daily as it is the main way to get to the A&E dept in a hurry. Anyone local will know Southmoor Road. Anyone who uses it regularly will have complained to someone about the potholes and rutted surfaces which give such an uncomfortable trip to sick and injured people.
I went down it today to visit MIL and was in some joy to see parts of it coned off and orange beacons in the distance.........joy considerably diminished...they were re-painting white lines and hatchings which were perfectly visible before. As you drove past the new paint to the old paint, there was very little difference. Mad !

I know of the road but I have never driven down it and it has been a few years since I last went down there.
Most the roads in South Manchester are a disgrace, if car manufacturers want to test their ride comfort all they need to do is come here.
There also so much useless road furniture here, we need more road repairs and less pointless crayon posts.
Someone mentioned "vintagebike". Look at these:

Fantastically clean lines, simplicity in appearance. From 1932. It'll do about 60. Lovely.

Interested to hear from any MOT testers - booked my car in at my usual garage for MOT and a couple of repairs that I was told would need doing for the MOT at the service I had last month (rear spring and rear brake pipes corroded).
So I booked in car for MOT and this work doing. Paperwork shows a fail on these items and then a pass after repair.
Got me wondering why do it this way? Do garages like to "rack up" a certain number of fails for the records?? Of course I suppose they could need to see if there was anything else that might fail apart from the items known about. Last year failed on light alignment and again got a fail and then a pass (even though aim adjusted for free, presumably whilst doing test).
It's no skin off my nose and no qualms with the garage, just interested whether garages are audited on MOT pass/fails and so are looking for fails to put through. Read more
A one-man-band repairer and tester would have virtually a 100% pass rate, clearly inviting inspection, unless he took steps to clock up some "fails" just for the record. One such I know personally told me this was the case, so he always went through the pantomime of "failing" a car before passing it if it needed any work. In my case he failed it on a blocked washer jet, poked it clear. then passed it. I asked him why he went to the trouble, and he explained it was to keep VOSA happy.
On the other hand I have been to very big garages where the repair staff have no connection with the testers, and indeed the testers seemed very jealous of their status and did not take kindly to assumptions by mere repairers as to what would, or would not, pass.
I also know a small local garage where the tester is in fact an independent contractor operating from the same garage and sharing facilities. He does no repair work, although to outward appearances the same garage is providing both services.

Can recomend the A4 - I compared it to the Saab at the time I bought (2004) and the Audi was IMO a far better car. The level of soundproofing and insulation they achieved with a soft top is impresive. Nice size boot and still holds quite a bit with the roof down.
