I have a 2001 PEUGEOT 607 2.2 HDI this morning I was driving along hit a pothole at approx 20-25mph on the right front wheel. Immediately the car lost all power, then refused to start.
Fuel supply cut-off switch was not activated. It trys to start but its as if its starved of fuel. RAC turned up and stated it was definately a pump problem as the car was starting when sure start was sprayed throught the air intake.
Its currently at a garage, they will look at it tomorrow. Any ideas??
Ive had the car for 2 months travelled 2000 miles with no problems.

I am considering a second hand VW with a Dsg gearbox. As these have clutches - do these last the life of the box [ whatever that is ] or are they changeable separately ? Read more
Thanks Manatee - lots to read !

Hi all. Whenever the temperature drops to 5oC or below, my front brakes start to squeal? They start to squeal after I have used them, and can keep squealing for 300 yards or so, when driving through town. When on a A-road or M'way, above around 50mph, the squealing stops.
During the Xmas holidays, when the temperature was low, the brakes behaved as above, although when the temperature rose, they stopped squealing. However, during the last few cold days, the squealing has returned.
Does anyone know what this could be? Or should I just change the pads, they have done around 50,000 miles!
Thanks

And I don't mean 2 into 1 at roadworks :)
Two situations arose on way home from work yesterday.
1. 4 way junction with traffic lights. Not dual carriageway but double laned. Long queues, I am about 20 car lengths from traffic lights so possible 3 changes to get through these ones. As there is a road to my left, and a box junction for it, I wait back not wanting to enter the box junction. However, car behind me is wanting to turn left to go along that road. Now should I just wait where I am , not enter the junction so that in the off chance someone wants to come along that road, then I am not blocking them. Or do I move forward into the junction , let him turn left, and then run the risk of blocking someone?
One scenario I am definitely blocking someone, another only potentially?
2. Slip road off motorway is tailed back so they have started to queue on hard shoulder. But no obvious sign of this until you are on them as initially it just looks like one vehicle broken down. So then vehicles trying to get in from the inside lane onto the hard shoulder to join the queue and it all becomes confusing! Is there an unwrittren rule that hard shoulder is used for queuing when queue exceeds length of slip road? It makes sense but only if everyone knows!!
For any of you in the Glasgow area, first scenario was on London Road, second on A8 Shawhead offslip. Read more
This happens just about every morning at J12 for Gaydon on the southbound M40; I presume it's people going to work at the various motor industry-related facilities there, who have a tightly prescribed start time. I was surprised when I first saw it and imagined it must have some form of sanction from the police, because it does seem to help the traffic flow, especially since the motorway undulates around there and arriving drivers can't see that far ahead. Without that, though, it is, as others have said, illegal - although if I know it happens there, the police must too.
My Primera has the same engine blocks as 1.8 Nissan engine which is totally different to pre 1999 1.6 engine. When braking at a junction revs fall and engine cuts out. This only happens on average twice a week. Other times it is fine. Normal idle is 800. No other symptons. Any ideas? I have tried fuel cleaner additive. Read more
The throttle body is the bit that intakes the air, so probably the petrol type wont affect this. I would say they have adjusted the base idle.
Police are to be given the power to fine foreign drivers £900 for driving offences. Failing which the vehicle will be impounded until the charge is paid. Aimed mainly at foreign truck drivers, who have three times the accident rate of our home grown variety. On the surface, to be welcomed?
But in the detail it will apply to British drivers who cannot prove their address/ID. My old paper driving licence will be no good, then.
Nothing short of ID card by stealth, or am I just a paranoid old git? Read more
Bit like a Bail Bond then? Sounds good for Summons process but for FPT's why not just pay the ticket on the spot? Particularly if it would seem that some sort of deposit is having to be paid there and then.
My car is misfiring (like its running on 3 cylinders) when accelerating and seems to get worst when the car warms up. It only does it up to around 2000 revs and then above that seems ok.
I have had the fuel filter replaced, Spark plugs replaced and Cam shaft sensor replaced but still doing the same and seems to be getting worst.
It has been hooked to the diagnostics computer but this is not coming up with any faults??
Anyone have any ideas???
Thanks.

I had exactly the same symptoms on my Vectra. A new set of HT leads from the local factors cured the problem for a reasonable outlay.
Wife's car was traded in in January.
Letter from DVLA recieved 9th Feb confirming their records updated.
NIP received Tuesday advising 39 in 30 and asking for drivers name.
She was indignant (an understatement) and rang the dealer who checked and then went all defensive and apologetic - I guess they still have the car.
DVLA say there is no current keeper registered . . . . . . . . . . .
Police appear to have sent the NIP to tha last known keeper - we are dealing with that.
Now I can understand why dealers don't register stock for sale (adds more keepers) but surely stock for sale should only be on the road for test drives/repairs and the like.
If they are using it as a pool car or a staff car (unlikely that a Ford dealer woud use a Corsa as a courtesy car) should they not register it in their name?
The camera is around 30 miles from the dealer so unlikely to be a test drive!
Are there rules on when a Dealer has to register cars they are using??????
