The implementation of body armour also has the effect of keeping your head high

Never thought of that Fullchat.

Suggests a charming picture of the newly arrested miscreant reaching out with both cuffed hands to press your head down as you get into the driving seat, after you have done the same for them while stuffing them into the back seat....

Hi,

I have seen a car that I want to buy however it was once damaged but has now been repaired. It is recorded on the VCAR register. Could I still get finance for this car as I've been told that there are some companies that offer finance on damaged repaired cars. If this is true does anyone know of any companies.

Thanks Read more

My 2003 1.8LX has an air-con problem.

The A/C light only comes on (and the A/C works) with the Fan switch set to position 1.
When the fan is set to 2,3 or 4 the light goes out (and the A/C stops working).
The A/C light comes back on again when the fan is reduced to 1 again.

That's a solid set of symptoms ... does anyone know what it means ??

Got a coolant loss/leak on my Focus, so immediate thought, at 160k, is water pump - which fortunately aren't expensive - do any other parts need to be changed at the same time (belts) ? Any other causes other than pump? Cheers! Read more

From an overall cost of ownership point of view, this is the cheapest car I've owned by a considerable margin.

Over 3 yrs / 50,000 miles:

£1900 in depreciation.
£400 in maintenance and repairs
£250 in tyres.

Not one bill over £150. Not one breakdown. New owner drove it to Warsaw, Poland with no preparation and it didn't skip a beat. Slow and noisy, but they "out engineer" many of the premium brands IMHO.

I understand that the manifolds on 320 diesels are known to fail causing much damage to engines. I believe that some folks modify their own but I would like to know if a dealer replacement manifold is improved over the original and whether the ecu will need attention when it is fitted. Thank you for your replies. The car was made in Feb 2002 and has ingested a flap. I have read the thread on BMW land and it is a bigger problem than I first thought. It is hard to justify a new manifold at £350 if it has flaps that are no better. Regards.

there are many reasons but you could try something simple, I too have experienced this on several customers 406's in the past & a diesel specialist taught me a trick. Allow to tick over untill hot. Remove the diesel filter a put a bottle of Comma diesel injector magic ( halfords )in the filter & another bottle in the tank. then start the car up for approx 30 sec's then switch off & leave overnight. Start up next morning & fault often clears. I have actually used this trick 3 times with success & on some renault 1.9's that suffer with idle faults.
You may actually need a fault code read & live data check but for a couple of bottles of snake oil its worth a punt.
there will be a few along in a minuet that say snake oil does nought!

I borrowed my dads car and was driving back, the traffic was chuc-block and there is a bus lane. Every car was stuck in the traffic jam in the bus lane, I just wizzed down the empty lane and cut a good 5 minutss of the journey. The bus lane is clearly marked every few metres that is not in operation on a Saturday.

The bus lane in question is the same one Ted1440 has posted about opposite KFC in a part of South Manchester I am just amazed as this just keeps happening. Now most this traffic must be local so there is no excuse not to know the times of operation.

Just a little rant and thank you ignorant drivers for giving me a lane enitely to myself :). Read more

In my neck of the woods, a stretch of dual carriageway that was never particularly busy, had a lane chopped on both sides to make a bus lane.
They are 24/7 lanes.
Yet, buses start at 6am , two an hour until 10 am then it is one an hour till 4pm. Two an hour till 7pm and then back to one until they cease at 11.pm.
The real joke is that on one side, it can zoom up it's special lane but at the end, has to try and get in to the line of traffic on the right in order to do a right turn at the r/bout.
Not surprisingly, the traffic queueing in the right hand lane is some what reluctant to let it in .

To say nothing of the smoke...;-)
I'm in the Hotel D'Angelo right now, in downtown Tacloban - Philippines. Struggling slightly with the first time use of the keyboard of an EEE PC 701SD.

About those jeeps. According to my contacts, they were banned from being built a few years back due to the sun reflecting off those mirror like panels. However, there are some older ones on the street outside that are mat finished - almost looking like galvanised, but without the give away signs.
The musical airhorns seem to have gone too - surely by legislation? - given the love of them on Jeepneys. Sadly traditional Jeepneys are greatly diminished - replaced by anodine, soul-less creations that are on the same theme, but with a little headroom.
Boy, do I remember getting out of those almost on my hands and knees..
There was also an incident of heat collapse (20 years ago) when I had to be carried off an inter island ferry and flopped onto a bed under an aircon unit - one of those places that are rented by the hour (allegedly) and much to the amusement of the future Mrs oilrag and her chapparone (yes, really) the bodily carrying, being done by the blokes in our party of course.
Our regular family transport here is a Tamarrow - (or something like that) and much preferred to the 4x4 for basic honest space and lack of wobbling.
I could (referring to the past) tell you about a cockroach as big as a box of matches - but better not in case its listening in...best not to sleep with your mouth open.. Read more

Sorry Oilrag. Old British colonial attitude to foreign geography, I'm afraid. Will consult map next time! Wouldn't want to upset the locals if they're that volatile...
