ok its time to change the mini convertible, the boot is driving us mad. too small.
we have had two bmw converts, they are nice, but just dont want another.
we (me and swmbo) love the saab, around a 06 or 07 plate black aero 2.0 or 1.8 t
i saw on here the worrying thing about the bulkhead cracking !
so my Q is
should we look at the audi (just dosent do it for me- I dont know why?)
or maybe volvo c70 convert?
or what else?
saw a jag xk8 convert 53 plate for £15k are these any good, mind you petrol in a 4.2 ?

the problem with saab 93 bulkheads cracking was on the earlier cavalier based models IIRC

After having read the forum threads at SaabScene the 9-3 convertibles from 2003 onwards are fine, but the previous model 9-3 and 900 suffered the issue (there's a 14 page topic on it on the SaabScene forum - tinyurl.com/dyfcwp)
I'd go for the folding hard top C70 over the 03 onwards 9-3. Not that I know how they drive but I think the C70 looks great!

As a new owner, I'm bound to say try a Focus CC, aren't I?
Fits the bill in some ways, decent sized boot and the OP could just about get a new one for £15k.
Much bigger inside than a MINI, not as big as some of the others mentioned.
Worth taking a tedt drive, if only to prove convertibles can be made to handle properly.

Eos? Plenty of room in the back seats and a decent sized boot.

As I said on a previous thread, we're very pleased with the SAAB 9-3 Aero 2T convertible.
We only looked at this and the Audi A4. Couldnt get a sensible lease deal on the A4.
SAAB has more rear seat space, and while not quite as cool from the outside, we like the "different"SAAB styling.
As above, the bulkhead problems seem to be behind them in the latest bodies.
SAABscene refers to noisy front suspension sometimes, but we've not had this.
Also some reports of poor build quality and rattles - not our experience.
We had a very slow leak on the coolant system, that required a lot of time locating, but was cleared under warranty with no problems.
First set of tyres gave poor mileage, but this may be due to highish power through front wheel drive - we'll have to see over the next year.
I would think you would get a better price on the SAAB, in view of GM's problems, and you may not want a car with no manufacturer left - but hey, think of all those Rover owners.

Eos? Plenty of room in the back seats and a decent sized boot.
Too may leaky roofs with the Eos.
How about a nice used Mercedes CLK Convertible? Good prices now as the replacement looms (E Class Coupe). Nice and classy, and decent room in the back (SWMBO has one).

The Morris Minor convertible was a most spacious car, as was the Citroen 2CV.
I believe that there are beautifully rebuilt examples of both these cars available and would thoroughly recommend either.
I know, you may worry about a lack of peformance but how often do you exceed 60 mph these days?
Running costs are very modest and the cars, if well looked after, might appreciate in value.

I've got an 06 E46 convertible which I love. Of all those suggested above I'd try the C70- a stunning looking thing.

i'd have to say the Mitsuibushi colt CZC, but like others have said i own one so im going to suggest it.
nice car plenty of boot space even with the roof down, comfortable, economical and a little minx on the open road if you dont watch your speedo

Bought a used Merc CLK 3.2 last summer, great car with the top down and not all that bad on juice, big surprise was the low insurance quote.

Can recomend the A4 - I compared it to the Saab at the time I bought (2004) and the Audi was IMO a far better car. The level of soundproofing and insulation they achieved with a soft top is impresive. Nice size boot and still holds quite a bit with the roof down.
