There still seems to be confusion regarding VED rates for cars registered between 1 March 2001 (2001Y) - 22 June 2006 (2006/55).
According to the Direct Gov website: www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowTo...6
Band K cars (201-225 g/km) will be charged:
£215 in 2009 - 2010 and £245 in 2010 - 2011
* Band K includes cars that have a CO2 figure over 225g/km but were registered before 23 March 2006. These cars will stay in band K.
However, in Honest John's FAQ section (right at the bottom) on VED it states:
Note that the exemption from higher rates for vehicles first registered before 23-3-2006 no longer applies. These CO2 rates apply to all vehicles first registered after March 2001.
This does not correspond to the Direct Gov website?
As I am considering buying a fresh car I need to be sure before I decide to purchase a pre March 2001 X plate car, a post 2001 Y/51 plate just over 225 g/km.....
Definitive clarification would be gratefully appreciated, and if anyone has any info of what happens after 2011..... I believe increases are meant to be in line with inflation?

Is this a U-turn that has been "ninja'd" in on a busy news day ?

thanks a lot for that link , it must have only recently been put on as wasn't there when I last looked
Very pertinent to my pocket , as our family car is an excellent 2004 Nissan X Trail 2.5 petrol Auto with CO2 of 231 g/km , and this confirms what I'd hoped, that this car wouldn't be clobbered with the stupid £400 + band... it stays in the ' bargain ' £245 band.
Glad to see just a bit of common sense prevailing .
