Went to start the car and I would have sworn the battery is flat. Put jump leads on and it was still the same. Now when the ignition is on there is a brrrrrrr sound coming out of a box mounted on top of the engine. (it has two magenta coloured relays? in there). Engine management lights have been on and off a lot recently but the car has been fine. Is it possible I could start it with a push? It is a manual shift. Hope someone may have an idea about this. my son was about to head out last night with our peugeot 306 1900diesel meridian, the car started as normal but neither headlights, sidelights or rear lights worked, not even the headlight flasher worked. The indicators, work (same stalk) the brake and reversing
lights work. The hazards work.
I have checked the fuses, all ok, has anyone any idea where else to look? Could an earth fault cause this total failure?
cheers

the best place to check first is the multi connector plug which is connected to the stalk. you will probably have to remove the shrouding around the steering wheel to get access to it. i take it there are no dashboard lights as well. check the plug is connected securely and this may involve removing the connection and making sure the terminals havent flared appart. good luck. take any precautions involving the air bag around this area.
I have a Citroen C3 Desire, how do I remove the radio and the small shelf below it? I need to replace the bulb behind the heater switches and apparently if I remove the above, that's how I get access. Read more
All was OK yesterday but this morning all is not well.
Engine starts OK and runs normally.
When reverse is selected and I gently ease out of my drive there is a slight vibration.
Select Drive or !st or 2nd and the vibration is much worse.
Vibration is speed related.
I have only driven it 10 yards backwards and forwards to try to gather more info.
I had a waggle of the driveshafts and they seem reasonable.
No warning lights on dash.
Did a manual check of brake fluid level - OK.
It feels like the ABS is being invoked all the time.

Well now the weather has improved and I have time to think about things like the lack of an ABS light flashing I have investigated a bit further.
I have to admit to egg on face...
Front spring has snapped and the snapped end is against the tyre.
The break looks clean and shiny across most of cross section.
I guess I was very lucky that it snapped overnight while car was in the drive.
So the Mondeo continues.
Has anybody tried a national company that will pick up your car from workplace service it and bring it back same day?
I have just purchased a 2003 Golf and it's in need of a service and thought this looked quite a good offer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated?
Thanks
Ian.

Pixar's "Cars"
I know it was a cartoon, animation, CGI, whatever - but it was so, err... colourful.

It strikes me that a big part of Honda's recent lack of sales is because they have overpriced their cars/brands
Other manufacturers seem to be much better perceived value, eg. Seat, Hyunai, Kia
Which cars do you think are over/under priced relatively at the moment?

you only have to remember those idiot parents who bought their equally daft kids so called designer trainer shoes at £80 plus.

Yes I have been stupid. I had both my partners car and my car to fill with fuel, mine is diesel 206 HDI 2L and hers is a 1.8 petrol. took my HDI first and put 20 L of unleaded in. Did not realise and drove home about a mile (no prplem up to now)and still not realising I had used the wrong fuel. Filled her car with the correct fuel. Came to start mine the next morning and it just miss fired and spluttered. I realised immeadiatly what I had done. I drained the tank by disconnecting the pipe from the fillter and used the lift pump in the tank to empty the fuel. While I was at it I changed the fuel fillter complete with housing and put 20 L of clean diesel in. It has failed to start since. Incase I had damaged the clip on pipes on the filter housing I replaced these too. Still will not start.
Any help would be great. Thanks John Read more
Hi,
my 2.0 HDi SX started bouncing recently, so checking the forums it appeared the first port of call was to change the spheres.
The rear suspension seems fine but its the front which appears to have the problem.
I've changed the 2 wheel spheres as directed, performed the 'citrerobics' - up and down 5 times.
The problem now is that the front suspension doesn't raise or lower to the normal ride height.
If i select Max height - the car will rise to the full height
If i select Min height - the car will fall to the lowest level.
The rear suspension moves back to the normal ride height when i select it, but the front won't go. IF I am at Max the front will stay at Max, if I am Min, the front will stay at Max
The LHM level (from what I can tell) is high - at the Max height the indicator is above the higher of the two red rings.
From the myriad of posts and problems, I'm getting a bit bogged down in what i should do next.
Can anybody advise what is best to do next?
Cheers
Steve

Thanks for the advise all, in the end it was the plastic link - £2.40 from the citroen garage!!
If anybody else is new to this and would like some advice - be prepared for the fiddliest little job you'll ever probably do....lol.
Access to the where the clip goes is ridiculous in the extreme (IMO)
Make sure you lube up the 2 coils with plenty of WD40/grease first before attaching the new clip and try and free the coils up a bit first....trust me, it'll save you some time.
Finally, do this job on ramps. You need to have the body weight on the wheels/suspension. The clip wasn't lined up with the metal clip on the roll bar so by using a hydraulic jack, we where able to raise/lower the front end accordingly to make sure the clip was in the right place to attach to the metal clip
And the advice about the French Car forum guys was spot on - they are a knowledgable bunch and quick to get back to you!!!

I have been told I have front brake judder - I think it is the cold kind. Was told the back brakes also had judder and the discs and pads needed replacement - would the replacement have been required as a result of the judder? Should this be covered under warranty? I purchased the car from a dealer with a 12 month warranty. Thanks. Read more
Could be bearings - only way to know for sure is to get car checked by someone you trust and knows what they are doing (or yourself if mechanically adept)...Jack up front wheel (preferably use axle stands) and see if brakes are making noise or if it is bearings...Brakes problems tend to sound like scraping and bearings a drone if you can spin the wheel fast enough..or it could be both?
Some slight increase in noise when turning under load can be expected on most cars, but normally very subtle. A loud grating needs checking.

Were you using nice hefty jump leads? If the battery is totally flat then cheap leads are useless and you will never get started.
