I'm not talking about the boy racers who have stuck xenons into their old bangers but a new car with xenons fitted as an (expensive) option. I have travelled in identical models on the same rural road at night. Without xenons the dipped beams were really poor and it was really difficult to see the road, with xenons it was much, much better but a couple of drivers flashed.
The headlights were correctly aligned in case you thought otherwise. Read more
In the last 24 hours I have seen:
- A car with one headlight out so driving on full beam
- A car with both side and headlight out on passenger side.... so driving with foglights on
I don't think it's a xenon HID issue. It is poorly aligned and maintained headlights. And people fitting ultra bright bulbs. At least with factory fit HID lights they have some automatic adjustment and headlight cleaning system.
Hi guys,
I am having a problem with my heating: It doesn't work. It started failing intermittantly at first and now it doesn't work at all. The exception to this was yesterday when on a long journey, I had been driving for around 70 miles and it started to work. At this point I checked my engine temp which was at virtually zero. Since then, it hasn't worked but my engine temp seems to be fine. Any ideas on what this could be? I don't know much about car engines but if it's something that's easily fixed I don't mind giving it a go.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy. Read more
The cooling system on a Vauxhall shouldn't need bleeding. Any air in the system will find its way to the expansion tank. No bleed valve as not required.

I quite fancy the idea- 100 miles range, decent speed and acceleration, enough seats for most of my journeys, hopefully reliable. Reminds me strongly of my old Smart. And the leasing thing sounds like what GM did with the EV1 in the US. (Lets hope it doesnt go the same way)
.....but not at £700 per month.

btw- mods, sorry for the Hindustan Ambassador. Couldn't post without choosing a car.
Edit: Fixed to remove the car. In discussion you either need to have a make/model or Category. As it's an electric car I selected Green Motoring for you. Rob Read more
What about that electric Elise they make in the US - Tesla?
I've seen an 02 Renault Laguna 1.8 petrol Dynamique for sale at a main dealer, 56K, FSH, seems to be in good nick. £2995.
I know it hasn't exactly been given a glowing review in car-by-car, but I like the car and it does have its good points:
5 * safety
Xenon headlights - I live in a rural area
Quite comfortable.
I'm told the petrol versions are much more reliable than the diesels. I'm quite handy with the spanners, so wouldn't mind changing the odd coil pack etc. if it came to it. Also not bothered if things like tyre pressure monitor doesn't work.
Worth a punt or best avoided?

DP, thanks I might have a look at some S60s. The seats look soooo comfy - like big sofas! I'm surprised a 5 cylinder engine gives you 35mpg - not far off my 1.8 Mondeo.
All of the S60s I have seen in auto-trader for the sort of money we're talking about seem to be over the 100K mark, but I hear Volvos are fairly well made. Maybe a high mileage Volvo would be preferable to a low mileage Laguna. Even the positive Laguna postings on the thread are along the lines of "like the car but ......"
I think the S60 would probably look classy for quite some time to come.
First thing ive noticed is that all the valeting set-ups in car parks are booming, even during the daytime at the garden centre.
Had a long chat with my cleaning chemical supplier who said that he has had brilliant start to 2009, one of the best starts he has ever had. He agreed with me that as things stand, if he didnt read the papers, he wouldnt know there was any economical problems.
As for me, ive found it exactly the same. Response to advertising is very strong and existing customers are spending very strongly, many new cars this year either already delivered or on order. I havent had a January this strong for 4 years - I met my normal targets for the month by the beginning of the third week and Im almost booked till the end of the month.
Im wondering when or if, it will bite, whats it going to take as things are from what ive been told, are getting better not worse, atleast on the face of it. Read more

How do you remove rear bumper on ford fusion????

Never done one but there all similar, look for torx srews in the wheel arch area on the rim and under bumper, inside boot area remove floor mat & look again for all torx screws if fitted or normal screws.
Take your time don't rush, im sure it's similar to a fiesta? haynes maual may give you an idea.
The innder door pulls on my Polo are suffering from signs of the grey coloured paint being scratched / falking off. Anyone know if a VW dealer would be able to get me these parts as replacements?
Is there a DIY fix possibly? Read more
Actually I had thought of that! Not tried the dealer yet.
The indicator of my [recently purchased] Polo does not cancel on left turns only.
It's more of an annoyance than anything else but I would like to know if it's easy to fix? I guess removal of the steering wheel is necessary, which in turn requires removal of the airbag I presume.
Any thoughts? Read more

Thanks
My word, the layout of the HJ site is far far superior to the Legacy forum.
