Mrs AF bought me a spray-bottle of some jollop called 'Magic Ice-Stop' which I spray onto the car's windows the night before a sharp frost. And it works, making the ice next morn much easier to shift. And now I'm out of it and can't find it anywhere. Any ideas, please?
Moreover, as I'm er, 'careful' with money I'd rather make-up my own mixture. Anyone suggest a recipe for 'night-before ice-preventer'?
Thank you.
AF.

Basically it will be a viscous oily liquid that displaces condensation and therefore the ice from adhering to the screen.
Halfords used to have "Night Before De-Icer" or some similar name. Worked fine, as you describe above, if it froze. Devil's own job to remove if the forecast was wrong the frost failed to arrive.

Cut a potato in half and rub over the windows. Cheaper than a 'magic' bottle of jollop.

I've got some of that Halford's stuff - didn't do it for our cars - left a horrid residue and the ice seemed harder to shift. Happy to scrape though, focuses the mind up first thing in the morning....

If you are that "careful" with money, try the old trick of an old newspaper across the screen held in place by the wipers. Or if you are even more "careful" try putting the car in the garage, if you have one that is.

I have to get up tomorrow morning at 3.30 ( crikey is it that time already ) and frost is forecast. Precautions ? Nah...Quickclear screen. Another good thing about the Mondeo....

Saw some stuff in Wilkinsons last weekend. "Pre-Ice" or something similar supposed to be the sort of stuff you're after. ISTR it was quite cheap.
