Ive just recently replaced my handbrake cable and also did the brake pads due to the caliper sticking and wearing the drivers side down.

I was just wondering would it be better to get mine reconditioned with a repair kit or buy a recon or 2nd hand cailer? Read more

Recon I should think. Or you might try Car Transplants ...

Hi. all
recently bought a vectra 2.0 16v with ecotec engine. the performance is quite disappointing and also there is a slight background humming sort of noise from the engine which gets louder with the engine speed. there is no eml on and the car has just passed its mot so emmissions must be ok. could there be an issue with some of the breather hoses and where is the best place to check for this.

I don't know what the resistance should be to be honest, maybe someone else does; I tend to buy these at around the 100K mark, so I change the HT leads anyway.

I was amazed to see these figures!

Americas - USA Active: Gatso 10

I can't believe that the whole of USA only has 19 mobile sites, for example. Figures come from the Database of GPS Pocket world.
Whatever the exact figures are for UK, it begins to look as though the lunatics have taken over the asylum as well as the banks!

NW you can twist words better than most.

I do not speed. I hate speed humps because they damage my car and hurt my back even at lowest speeds. I have to cross a minimum of 10,000 of them a year.

They are in my opinion a bad thing and an alternative, if required, would be my preference.

That is my personal opinion and I am entitled to it just as you are to yours.

Clear ?

I am now bored with you and this.

A customer of mine has a 70k 52 plate Golf GTi 2.0 and it has spent 5 weeks of the last 3 months in the garage and is currently in again for an ECU issue. Its already had several sensors, 5 instances of warning lights popping on and other various electrical glitches and the short warranty it came with is soon to expire.

She has had enough of it and ive spotted a main dealer 2003 Impreza GX 5dr with 44k for reasonable money - my reputation is sort of on the line as I implied it would be the polar opposite of the Golf - just had a sudden doubt in myself - was it a safe statement as id hate her to buy another dog? In general I take it they are the usual Subaru fare in terms of reliability? Read more

Hello FocusDriver, I clicked on that link and the cost it refers to is for repairs rather than servicing which might explain the difference.

Looking at that page the average age of Subarus in the sample was quite high 5.5 years as opposed to 3.0 for SAABs in the test and the annual mileage for the Subarus in the sample was a lot higher too which might explain why the costs looked higher.

I've only had to repalce one significant item - a back box on my exhaust after I grounded the car going too fast on the pot-holed track to my house and the cost of the part was a bit gruesome I seem to recall.

Hi

I'm trying to put together information about UK VW owners' experience of VW's response to water ingress damage due to failure to clear plenum drainage.

I'm the owner of a 2003 TDi Passat that has been continually serviced by the same VW garage. The car flooded due to a blocked plenum drainage hole and the brake warning light is lit. My VW garage unblocked the plenum drainage hole and dried out car and are trying to charge me £690 for this. Having read around the issue on this site and others I?m now also concerned about the lit brake warning light (something that VW have so far done nothing about) as brake damage has been connected to such flooding. I gather from this site that replacing the servo and related parts might cost up to £980.

I?ve seen various postings on this forum relating to this. Including details of the 2008 US class action against VW regarding this design fault.

www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/news/Stock%20News/129.../

UK TSB51B8 2007 is as far as I'm aware the official UK response to this design fault - a service order to check the plenum drainage at least every other year (something that my garage has not done).

Has anyone had any luck in getting VW UK to rectify plenum related water damage on a "goodwill" basis?

I'd really appreciate any feedback on this.

Thanks

The innocent I think he means, rather than the cause of the accident who would appear to be driving too quickly for the conditions...

Probably discussed before but as Rattle has brought up the shortest time then maybe longest also interesting.
I'll start off with my Jowett which I have owned since 1972. A fellow club member has a 1934 car which his Grandad bought new. A friend has a Singer tourer bought new by his dad in 1937.

That's at least two owners - I don't think inheritance meets the spec.

can anyone tell me the paint code or colour used by british gas , on there vans , local factor cannot match it?

thanks Read more

David-RenaultUK

The official Renault paint code used on Kangoo vans supplied to British gas is C42.
However I'd recommend you do a spray out test on a small sample just in case the vehicle in question has ever been repainted etc.

Just sat in the marvelous Pete's Eats in Llanberis at the end of a fantastic break in Anglesey (now with free Wifi - hooray!)

Have been bemused by the driving here - some of the most courteous around the country lanes and everyone smiles and waves and it's all very nice. However, on the single carriageway roads, everyone drives about three inches off your bumper, regardless of how fast you're going (and I'm usually within 2-3mph of the speed limit). They're not driving aggressively I don't think but everyone seems to have forgotten their braking-thinking distance is something like 30feet in front of my bonnet....

Still, eggs, beans, sausage and chips a pint of tea and another look at the wonderful scenery on this beautiful cloudless day will allieviate the tension!
