Probably discussed before but as Rattle has brought up the shortest time then maybe longest also interesting.
I'll start off with my Jowett which I have owned since 1972. A fellow club member has a 1934 car which his Grandad bought new. A friend has a Singer tourer bought new by his dad in 1937.

>Which his Grandad bought new

That's at least two owners - I don't think inheritance meets the spec.

can anyone tell me the paint code or colour used by british gas , on there vans , local factor cannot match it?

thanks Read more

David-RenaultUK

The official Renault paint code used on Kangoo vans supplied to British gas is C42.
However I'd recommend you do a spray out test on a small sample just in case the vehicle in question has ever been repainted etc.

Just sat in the marvelous Pete's Eats in Llanberis at the end of a fantastic break in Anglesey (now with free Wifi - hooray!)

Have been bemused by the driving here - some of the most courteous around the country lanes and everyone smiles and waves and it's all very nice. However, on the single carriageway roads, everyone drives about three inches off your bumper, regardless of how fast you're going (and I'm usually within 2-3mph of the speed limit). They're not driving aggressively I don't think but everyone seems to have forgotten their braking-thinking distance is something like 30feet in front of my bonnet....

Still, eggs, beans, sausage and chips a pint of tea and another look at the wonderful scenery on this beautiful cloudless day will allieviate the tension!

Probably a subsidy for that very task.

What an utterly stupid idea. It's a market economy and people aren't buying cars as often. I run a small business and we are feeling it. When do I get my bail-out?

If you want to protect jobs in the motor industry, take VAT off car repairs and servicing and say make MOTs free. That way you are helping the sector, you're incentivising safety and helping the environment by keeping existing cars in decent nick - all of which are key Government targets.

Sub 120 gram co2 is £35 x3 =£105 not earth shattering is it?

Yes but Jaguar have only two models in their range sub 150 (just) and Land Rover only 2 sub 200 (just) so they would not be giving up 3x£35.

Hi, another espace question for the day, where is the gearbox oil filling plug located? ive managed to find the drain plug but can't locate the filler plug, i assume it'll be the same plug as for checking the level but couldn't see where it was after a semi quick look.

cheers

Hi

I am having a problem with my boot alarm latch, when I am driving I get the door open light on the dash coming on/off. And recently my alarm system goes off when there is no one around. I know the latch is a bit dicky as when I open the boot and slam it closed the door open light goes off. Is there any way of checking the latch before I have to splash out on a new one.

check that the catch on the car (not the one on the boot) has not slipped down or become loose. if the boot is not closing properly then the lights will come on and of as you drive because of the movment. If that is ok check and clean the connectors between the boot and the car. also if the alarm is going off check that the boot is properly closed. any movment caused by the wind may be enough to trigger the alarm

I'm about to change the coolant temp' sensor on my golf engine code BFQ. i've tried removing the electrical connector (4 pin) without any joy so far. Do i need a special tool to get this connector to dis engage from the sensor. There are lots of electrical connectors on the car all of them seem to have a different way of locking together is there a web site or publication that might enlighten me on the mysteries of unlocking VW electrical connectors. I am considering test driving a 2008 (58) Subaru Impreza III 1.5 R Auto, which I have spotted at a local Subaru main dealer. I wish to be as pre-armed as I can be before I get to the dealer, so does anyone have any experience of this model, and specifically the Auto gearbox in non-performance Imprezas? Is it a traditonal auto or does it have a semi-manual/tiptronic type of function?

Any other notes or comments on the model would be appreciated, HJ does not appear to have test driven one. Competitive publications seem to be a bit down on the model, with reference to performance and running costs, so any real world experience would be handy.

Cheers all. Read more

I never found our Forester auto hunting for gears and that was a 4-speed. Hunting is less likely the fewer gears you have I would say.
Our Sirion auto is 4-speed and it slips into 4th at about 28mph on the flat and tends to pick a gear and stick to it rather than always be looking to change up.
I guess its to do with the way its programmed.

My ABS warning light is on on the dash display. This did only come on intermittently but typically when it came to MOT time it is on all the time.

The garage have hooked it up to the diagnostic machine and it's not showing as having any faults with the ABS but they won't pass it with the light on even though they can't find a fault.

Any ideas greatly appreciated! Read more

Well, I would do quick checks like fuse/power/earth to the controller just to make sure that it is getting power, if that all checks out pop along to a bmw specialist and get them to check.
