SAIC said 700 MGTFs would be produced by the end of the year
MGs have left the Longbridge plant in Birmingham for dealers across the UK for the first time since 2005.
The MGTF LE500 cars are due to go on sale to the public at dealer open days from 20 September.
Shanghai Automotive (SAIC) has said it hopes to produce 700 MGTFs by the end of the year. The model is expected to retail at about £16,500.
MG Rover collapsed in 2005. It was bought for £53m by Nanjing Automobile Corporation and then SAIC took over.
The LE500 designation will only be given to the first 500 individually-numbered cars to leave the Longbridge production line.
Phoenix consortium
Longbridge was opened in 1905 by motoring legend Herbert Austin.
As well as producing cars, it was used as a munitions factory during both world wars and began production of the iconic Mini in 1959.
It also produced the popular Metro and Rover 200 models before the Rover company was bought by BMW in 1994.
BMW subsequently sold the firm to the Phoenix Consortium, under whom it went into administration in 2005.
The collapse in 2005 led to the loss of about 6,000 jobs.

£17K isn't too much for what will probably be one of the last Longbridge-built MGs ever.

Is that £17K the purchase price or the cost of fixing all the problems with these cars?

I hired a car in Italy from a very well know company via a low-cost airline website in May and was charged approx. £230 immediately on my credit card.

When I collected the car at the airport I repeatedly asked the clerk if there would be any additional charges? He was adamant that if I returned it in the same condition and fully re-fuelled, then NO, there was not any additional cost, (he spoke perfect English). This I did at the end of August and guess what, I've just had a CC bill with a £46 payment to said hire car company in Italy! The cheeky so and so's have even made a Sterling transaction, (which makes it more expensive than a Euro one, even with the additional CC overseas transaction commission charge).

I don't fancy trying to contact anyone in Italy either by email or telephone with any modicum of success, so I've just spoken to the CC company instead and they were very helpful. They will raise a query with the merchant and apparently if they are not able to justify the transaction, I stand a reasonable chance of getting my £46 back!

Anyone had any similar experiences?

I've just had the invoice through the post.

Lists a lot of taxes, etc. and comes to a total in Euro's, (no fuel or damage costs listed or insurance extras).

The total amount then has a deduction, which is the amount I paid back in May via the website. This leaves a balance which is the extra they have taken from my card.

Just one small problem. The invoice amount which is additional to the voucher value (the original amount paid previously) has been converted to Sterling at a rate of approx. 82p per Euro. The conversion rate used on my voucher (to convert the Sterling I originally paid in May when I booked to a Euro amount), is approx. 95p per Euro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Robbing pink fluffy dice.

Just have to see what the CC company make of it?

I drive an Ignis Sport 04 (April 2004 -25,000 mls), and I noticed today that my Air Con was not cooling the car at all, it seems to have stopped giving out cold air. In fact, it seems to have been gradual because it has not been giving out cold air in the past 3 weeks or so.

I do not drive the car every day, but I am careful to use the A/C every week at least to make sure that it is kept lubricated. I hope it is not the compressor!

I suspect it needs a recharge or similar but since I know nothing in cars I am not sure.

1) What is likely to be the cause of the problem? (is a recharge usually needed after 4 1/2 years?)

2) How much is a recharge?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Read more

I've been renting a car from 1car1.com for a week.
A couple of days after I got the car, I noticed a "ding" in the passenger door. Looks like some unknown 3rd party had opened their car door a bit too enthusiastically and knocked into mine.
The ding isn't on the damage sheet that was filled in when I was walked around the car prior to picking up the keys. (Maybe I should have taken a bit more notice at this stage!)

What's the likelihood of me having to pay for a ding repair? The small print in the damage sheet mentions a 500 pound excess. Oh dear...
There is also a section where drivers sign to accept that they did the damage.

This is the 1st time I've ever rented a car. I hope it ain't my last...

All this I am aware of - as previously mentioned I was paying more attention to the factual content, rather than grammar and punctuation.

Imagine the 'field-day' I would have if I was bored/sad enough, or had too much time on my hands to trawl through your previous posts :0)

I try to supply solutions/advice to problems as quickly as possible as my time is limited and valuable. "Typos" are the last thing on my mind and I would imagine that it would be similar for the receivers of said solutions/advice. I regret this if it offends anyone.

I can only apologise for being a bit truculent in my initial response - I'll put it down to being in a bad mood. No Offence intended :0)

We know that several thousand of you have viewed HJ's road test on the Honda Jazz. More are planned we trust. We hope you have enjoyed this one. Any feedback on the following would be appreciated:
- playing experience - lags, browser support, video quality,
- content, usefullness, duration, style, etc.

Constructive criticism please if that is poss.

Thanks

I would ask for a new modem. Mine started getting slow a couple of months ago and I thought it was the service, but a new modem has given it a new lease of life.

Assumptions: You're on cable and using one of the old/big/silver ntl:home modems.

Seems to me BMW drivers get more than their fair share. Mate of mine with a 3 series gets lots when he is driving around, things like not being let out at junctions and other drivers wanting to race. As soon as he mentions the car at work out come the old cliches. Which cars do you think get most problems?

Here's a different view point... people carriers!

I saw one recently, loaded with a school run mum and assorted children, none belted in. The abuse (neglect) was that the two tyres that I could see were under inflated and running on the sidewalls, and judging by the damage had been for some time. I hope that car never goes out of a 30 limit.

If the bus is free, any toad may begin to transmit. If two or more toads begin sending messages at the same time, the message with the more dominant croak (which has more dominant croaks i.e. bit 0) will overwrite other toads less dominant croaks, so that eventually (after this arbitration on the croak) only the dominant croak remains and is received by all toads.

Would the car based original be up for the `10 Wonders Of The Automotive World` award?

If so where would you place it?

What would you choose in diminishing order?

One of the cooling fans on my 1996 405 TD is running constantly with the ignition on. The guy i bought from said his mechanic rewired it like that as the previous engine had overheated.
I have checked the 3 relays and all the wiring is intact and doesn't look like it's been touched.
I have read on the internet that it could be the bitron sensor for the air con.
Where is this located?
How can i test it?
How much is a new one?
Anyone got any other suggestions?

Cheers
