If the bus is free, any toad may begin to transmit. If two or more toads begin sending messages at the same time, the message with the more dominant croak (which has more dominant croaks i.e. bit 0) will overwrite other toads less dominant croaks, so that eventually (after this arbitration on the croak) only the dominant croak remains and is received by all toads.
(Coming to a pond near you as nature imitates machines by implementing perverse morpho-genetic causation.)
Would the car based original be up for the `10 Wonders Of The Automotive World` award?
If so where would you place it?
What would you choose in diminishing order?
Rules,
No scratching behind your ears and cloak your subject in mystery as above.
The object is the cloaking and trying to guess what it is.

Someone hold me.

???????????? - is this about toads using cb radio's on busses without paying for a licence??
or if its about cars in ponds, we've a lagoon here that is literally full of nicked, burnt-out ex joy-riders toys, however i've only once had to have my own car toad home if that counts!

If this is a reference to CANBus then I'd always assumed that works like Ethernet does.
Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Detect (CSMA/CD). Not that's how most of us use Ethernet now with switches but when we used 10Mbit/s coax a computer listened before transmitting and detected if there was a "collision", i.e. more than one sending at a time. Still affects routers and hubs though.

But maybe not CSMA/CD.... "This is achieved by CAN transmitting data through a binary model of "dominant" bits and "recessive" bits where dominant is a logical 0 and recessive is a logical 1. "

You have blown your big end, Ian.

Is CanBUS the Secret Code of Toad?
(EDIT: Sorry an illegal link, perhaps Google it.)
Or the AA ode, OK sir where do you want to be Toad?
Though I reckon Da Vinci would be more inspiring than Kenneth Grahame.

"CanBUS oilrag ??" Spot on PU ;)

Common Automotive Network.
Used on Motec ECU's very widely in World SuperBike and British SuperBike.

CanBus
Toad = Node
Croak = Signal
So if no takers for creating another example? Where would you rate CanBus in a list of
"10 Automotive Wonders"
How would you prioritise your own `top ten` of tech developments?
In design and engineering that is. Not the whole car, but rather isolated components.
Example, `aircon` is (for this thread) too generic. You would choose a tech feature within that which had outstanding technical merit in its own right.
Example 2,
Not badge, engine or even big ends then. But rather lead indium bronze overlay.
Your top ten then?

I can only assume Oilrag owns two cars, both of them Fiat Ulysses.

Most arcane BR thread ever. I think I'm privileged to have seen/read it.

Lud, isn't that a frog rather than a toad?

Yes. Only relevant quote I could find (Aristophanes - the only Aristophanes quote I know, I'm no Hellenist).
For the first time I am totally at sea with a thread. I know oilrag is agreeably fey but this one has me flummoxed. Not that I mind of course. I imagine it's full of modern technical stuff I don't understand (steam era, y'see... paper-tape telex, all that).

>>paper-tape telex, all that).
+80, -80. Kicked me off a travelling ladder at least once !
