I've been offered this at work:

black 1996 VW Polo 1.4CL
72000+
miles and has had the following work done.

New timing belt and water pump.
New carburettor.
Taxed until July 2009. Mot due Aug 2009.

Scratch marks on front n/s bumper.

£850 no less <- dunno if he means, he won't take anything less or not here.

Is this a good deal? What else should I look out for?

Thanks,
Luke. Read more

I don't actually know the person selling it. He just works for the same place (big place).

I have a Ford 1600 diesel in my boat which has the Lucas CAV pump and injectors. I am not sure of the exact year of manufacture but it is around 1990.
The original injectors have the number LCR 6762601C.
I have been offered a set with the number LRC 6732602C. Can anyone tell if they will fit. Read more

Try contacting Automarine Diesels in Brighton. They do cars & boats & know their stuff.

Screwloose, I was just about to post a similar query on 05 207SW 1.4hdi. Same symptoms and only just started doing this. Need to crank much longer to start cold or hot; sometimes thinking it's not going to fire. Used to start on first revolution as you mentioned. Runs fine when started- no difference.
Serviced in July by Nationwide Autocentre; does this test need Peugeot diagnostics?

Mark [It would be better if this was in it's own thread.] {it is now}

Common-rail injectors won't fire until the rail pressure reaches a safe threshold. A leaking injector or a failing HP pump can mean they struggle to produce enough pressure at cranking speed. Warm diesel doesn't help.

You need the same leak-off test done with the cranking pressure checked.

Hi All,
I have a 2000 X Fiesta 1.8TD, and I have gone through two heater control Circuit boards in as many weeks. Accompanied by the smell of electrical burning. I also replaced the valve under the bonnet less than two years ago, and it seems that this has failed again.
I dont mind replacing the valve, but I am looking to just replace the failed components on the circuit boards, but as they are damaged I cannot read the info on them.
The component that has failed is just above the connector socket and to the right (has three prongs on the left, one on the right), can anyone tell me what is written on them and confirm what I think they are! (Darlington Transistors in a SOT-223 package for the electronically minded). I have no problems wielding a soldering iron.
Many Thanks

Howdy - I'm new on here so apologies if this has been asked before.

I saw 2 people carrier type vehicles this morning with the VOSA logos and Speed Camera pictures on them.

Do VOSA now issue speeding tickets? I thought they were in charge of MOTs and truck testing.

We have had the DVLA outsourced (via NCP?) vans prowling around clamping cars that are not taxed. Better to drive around (even late at night) and clamp vehicles that are not taxed.

We are taxed to the hilt here, but for those of us paying then others should not get away. But I'm more against driving without insurance....

Regarding the current situation with Operation Stack, following the Channel Tunnel fire, which route would you suggest?

Coming down from West Yorkshire

At the end of this month, 500 odd lorries a day will be travelling down a main road delivering sugar beet to a factory near me.

The majority of these lorries wont use nets/canvas over the top of their load to secure it and stop it flying out onto the road/nearby vehicles.

I have approached the factory but there seems to be nothing they can do as the wagons are contracted in to move the beet.

I would also assume, maybe wrongly, that the local police also dont want to do anything about it.

I have seen a few bits of beet leave these wagons as they go round corners and just glad that I wasnt a couple of seconds quicker, thus it missed my vehicle but made a right mess in the road in front of me.

Who can I approach to get these loads secured?

Thanks in advance

Some confusion here. The OP said "I have seen a few bits of beet leave".

He didn't say bits of beet leaf, he said he had seen bits of beet fall off the lorry.
"Leave" as in depart from, not bits of harmless greenery.

Saw it on BBC - now on youtube if you missed it!

Very Funny (SWMBO did not rate it however!)
