Hi,
I know that this is a 'sad' post but are there any good Xenon lookalikes that you can install that do actually look like true Xenon's? Most of those that I see are too blue and don't look like Xenon's at all.
Also, are the 'good' Xenon lookalikes actually any good for illuminating the road!!!!
Or should I just go with some Osram Silverstars +50%?
Thanks Read more
Driving along a sodden M4 last night with lots of standing water I rembered HJ's advice not to use cruise control in such conditions, (because when the front wheels slow, if they aquaplane slightly, my rear wheel drive car tries to speed up). Thanks! Read more
I think the best way to save a life is to slow down in the wet weather.
Drove home on m5/m6 sunday in horrendous weather and was pressing on as much as I dared. Had to use wipers at full speed in stages and would not (not could not) drive any faster. Got good tyres fitted all round and have done more then the average driver in severs condition (rallying)
Absoloutely astounded at the speed of others going past me and how close they were to each other (and to me at stages). There is no way they could see more than me, or react much better than me, or control the car, or spot problems etc etc. To anybody that went past me; you are an absoloute idiot, and 1 of the reasons why so many speed cameras are in place; even though in places the nsl was too high! But dont let that slow you down!
Bring back driving standards and ability, not aids that wont always save you !
Way more important than whether wheels will slow down down or not in a puddle !
I know the accord and the rover 600's are more or less the same car but not sure to what extent. I ask as Im having difficulty getting a lower wishbone for the rover 620sdi at a reasonable price, I have sen the accord ones at a fraction of the cost and from pictures they look the same. Just looking for clarification as to if they will fit or not.
Thanks

With all the nonsense written in magazines about new cars ( I think often there is a strong bias). Not because it's his website, I genuinely think " Honest John UK" does decent thorough tests.
I am planning to go a bit upmarket when I buy a new car next time. I know Mercedes Benz have gone through a terrible patch, but I do think the New C Class is going to be a very good car. In South Africa they have closed the mercedes assembly for four months to prepare for the assembly of many right hand drive C Classes ( I read that in a South African motoring website). Worldwide Mercedes are kicking butt and are determined. I am seriously interested in going for a test drive here in Dublin or up in the North ( cheaper).I would like the 220 D. Also I like the Audi A4 2.0 diesel. I know the popular 140 bhp has a narrow power band and the gearing is not all that high ( it needs all it's gears) I have read. The 2.0 diesel 170bhp is supposed to be smoother ( but higher insurance etc). I sat in a Lexus IS 220D sport. It is superbly made and extremely comfortable.I have read that the ride is harsh.I think the rear space is a bit tight. The Audi A4 is nearing the end of it's life span before they do a change ( I love the looks). The BMW 3 series is a superb car; but I fancy the new Merc. I see the Audi A4 is much cheaper to service though.
Please I would be very interested if people let me know what they think? I genuinely have a broad mind>Magazines never tell you which car will probably last longest. Read more
>>Which will last longer?<<
Given how indestructible a Lexus is if serviced, id say the Lexus hands down. Even early 90's cars make a sound buy with FSH as they dont seem to have any faults other than old age, but with the correct servicing, seem to carry on regardless even when 17 years old.
I was thinking over the weekend that Rain X and such repels water much longer than car polish so why isn't it used on paint work? Does it damage paint - I've not noticed any warnings on the label. Is it just because of the length of time it takes to apply or is it the cost? I think I may try it on my project XM. The paint work is oxidised to I'm going to use Autoglym restorer, then polish and then Rain X. The bonnet would be a good test as it's damaged anyway where the strut hit it.
Any comments.
Steve.

Indeed BobbyG, exact words "Do not apply to plastic or paint surfaces."
Looking for some advice. Looking at a car at the weekend. The car itself was fine no issues. The only problem was the fact that the car has sat on a driveway for the last 6 months due to the previous owner passing away. All the seat belts where covered in a greeny blue mould and the front seat had some patches. I had a good look at there are no wet patches any where in the car. My question is how easy is this to clean off and what are the chances of it coming back.

You should first hoover up as much of the mould as possible. Then treat all the areas of mould with a mild bleach solution - 1 bleach:4 water. At this concentration it is strong enough to kill the mould without being an aggressive cleaning solution. Use the cheapest from the supermarket and check it has no artificial scent. To apply the bleach solution using a plant spray. Leave to dry. Hoover again. This should kill the mould and hopefully stop it returning. Any further growth, just respray with mild bleach solution.
I learnt this trick on a yacht that was plagued with mould in the cabin and one treatment solved the problem.

When that happened to mine I found that a fuse in the drivers fusebox had blown. 5 Amp I think. However after replacing the fuse the airbag light wouldn't go off, I traced it to a faulty rotary airbag connector on the steering column. Got the part from a scrap yard.

(Well vol 27 was only 9 posts away from 100, so I'd thought I'd start a new one)
As per most other weeks, highly entertaining. The limo feature was worth a giggle or two, but how they actually made the cars road legal to drive around London is anyone's guess?
Pity the Monaro VXR didn't get a chance to do a hot lap around the track.
Shame it was the last in the current series as well. Wondering if the series was shorter than normal due to all the money that had to be laid out for sending the Reliant into space, stretching cars, and the road trip in America? Read more
According to today's other paper JC says he's going, BBC say he isn't and indeed a Top Gear Summer Special - reminds me in many ways of the Beano/Dandy/Topper Summer Specials that were put out in the long hot summers of my childhood.
Beware: I discovered a nasty pothole the hard way yesterday evening; coming off the A3 at Tolworth from the London bound direction.
The hole is roughly two to three feet long, about five to eight inches wide and three or so inches deep. It is near to the start of the slip lane and unless you know where it is, it is almost impossible to see it until it is too late to avoid it.
Naturally, it is located exactly where your right hand side wheels will run if you are coming up the right hand lane in the slip road in order to turn south along the A240 towards Epsom...
It gave one bleep of a hard jolt; heavy enough to wake up my wife and cause her to ask "What was that?!" albeit in somewhat stronger language!
I guess I'll have to have the tracking and wheel alignment checked now... Read more
Report it online ?

Thanks for the warning. I do sometimes use that slip road
I found these photos of this Citroen GS Birotor. Not the GS I know.
I have never seen this model before and I certainly do not think it won any beauty contests
Out of curiosity can anyone translate or supply any basic details about it ?.

Same here Richard. Memories of mid 70s and my sister's then boyfriend with a Citroen Light 15 who had a love for all things made by Andre including a Birotor - saw at least one of these on the road !

Perhaps an alignment check might be in order then, rather than dazzling other road users yet more?
