I was thinking over the weekend that Rain X and such repels water much longer than car polish so why isn't it used on paint work? Does it damage paint - I've not noticed any warnings on the label. Is it just because of the length of time it takes to apply or is it the cost? I think I may try it on my project XM. The paint work is oxidised to I'm going to use Autoglym restorer, then polish and then Rain X. The bonnet would be a good test as it's damaged anyway where the strut hit it.
Any comments.
Steve.

The same has occurred to me. Rain X is v effective and lasts ages - longer than waxes. Would the finish be as good on paint? Windows look pretty good...

I'll try it on the damaged bonnet, half rain x, half wax.

I am sure the bottle of rain-x I looked at in Costco the other day had a warning on it to keep away from paintwork?

Indeed BobbyG, exact words "Do not apply to plastic or paint surfaces."
