What is a good replacement for the discontinued Hyundai i10?

Following a recommendation from HJ way back in 2009, I bought my first Hyundai i10 and was so pleased with it that I have since had three more, with my latest purchase in December 2021. I was very disappointed to learn that Hyundai has now discontinued the i10 so am at a loss to know what to replace my current car with later in the year. Although I miss the high driving position of the original i10 I like the overall high spec of the Premium trim and would still want air con and heated seats as a must. With severe osteoarthritis easy access and egress also important. Not too keen on the non premium European brands, putting off an electric car for as long as possible so what do you recommend as a replacement for my beloved i10?

Like you, we agree it's shame that Hyundai has stopped selling the i10 but sadly it’s becoming nearly impossible for manufacturers to make money on small petrol cars. Tightening Euro 7 emissions regulations require expensive exhaust technology and the UK ZEV (zero emission vehicle) mandates mean manufacturers are penalised if they don't sell a high enough percentage of electric cars. The i10 was also built at Hyundai’s factory in Izmit, Turkey. As part of Hyundai’s "electric first" strategy, the company decided to retool those production lines to build the new Inster and the upcoming Ioniq 3.

An obvious solution to this problem would be to go for the i10's sister car, the Kia Picanto which is still on sale as a new vehicle. As for alternatives, we would suggest looking at the Toyota Aygo X and Yaris Cross, Fiat Grande Panda and Honda Jazz.
