Citroen M-35 - henry k
I found these photos of this Citroen GS Birotor. Not the GS I know.
I have never seen this model before and I certainly do not think it won any beauty contests
Out of curiosity can anyone translate or supply any basic details about it ?.

Citroen M-35 - Tornadorot
See www.citroenet.org.uk/prototypes/m35/m35.html for more info on the M35. Apparently related to the Ami and built in very small numbers to trial the Wankel engine.

Many thanks for the details.

The M-35 and GS Birotor are different animals. The pics are of the M-35. The M-35 was an Ami-based test bed for a single-rotor 995cc Wankel engined car. 500 were released from captivity into the hands of lucky volunteers from Citroen's customer base in early 1970. The Birotor was, as the name suggests a twin-rotor design which made 107 bhp at 6500rpm. The motors were made by Comotor. The car looked exactly like a GS Club but had an oil level gauge on the centre console and an audible over-rev warning at 6800 revs. It had a version of the C-matic 3-speed semi-automatic gearbox.

The GS Birotors were supposedly bought back and crushed by Citroen, but a few escaped. There was one for sale in Denmark on e-bay a couple of weeks back - engine rebuilt with Mazda rotor tips. Huge appetite for both petrol and oil - it was the oil crisis of the early 70's that killed the idea off (more or less). I'd love to at least have a go in one - fond memories of GS's (all 'conventional' boxers!) growing up.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

Same here Richard. Memories of mid 70s and my sister's then boyfriend with a Citroen Light 15 who had a love for all things made by Andre including a Birotor - saw at least one of these on the road !
