Saw a car out in the High St today it was a Mitsubishi RVR.

Never seen one before. I am assuming it is one of these grey-imports versions of a car we don't normally get over here.

It looked quite "interesting". Like a space-wagon witha butch body-kit and some extra ground clearance.

I am assuming from the styling it has some kind of 4x4 system, or is it just a spacewagon in hiking kit.

Looked like it could be a good estate car for walking dogs, going across muddy fields, maybe pulling caravans across muddy fields.

anyone any experience withthese - do they drive well, or are they like most 4x4s, slow, thirsty, wallowy and expensive to run ?

Does the load area go flat with the seats folded down or do the seats come out to give a "van" ? Read more

The RVR is de-facto bodykitted version of what was known in Europe as previous model of Mitsubishi Space Runner (not to be mistaken with Space Runner). They were also sold in Canada and US as Mitsubishi Expo and Dodge Colt Vista.
Most imported RVRs are old shape 4D68 diesels ( used in Galants on continent but not in UK) or 2 litre 4G63 (Lancer and Galant with Turbos) and 1.8 litre 4G93 (used all of the shop) series petrols . Later models (after 1998) can be found with full range of GDI engines as used in Carisma and Galant (1.8 to 2.4 litre) but no diesels. Also, many imported RVRs are actually front wheel drive only in both automatic and manual form. As a rule of thumb - all trims with "Sport" in name (with exception of limited Aero edition), all "R" series and diesel "X" and "Z" series are 4wd unless customer specifically ticked FWD on spec sheet (it does happen). All "S" series (but not Type S on later models) are FWD only. Anything else is mixed bag as it was up to customer to spec it up and there were no set rules regarding trim or equipment involved in draw.

i've scratched the driver rear wing of my '03 astra and need to get it sorted as cheap as possible. i've been quoted a figure near £200 to get it sorted professionally, i was wondering if anyone on the site would be kind enough to give me some advice on sorting it myself, i've spoken to a bloke in the pub whilst consuming some beers and i'm sure he said that they would polish out!!! any suggestions? all would be greatly received. Depends how deep it is. If shallow, Meguiars Scratch-X is worth a try. If deep, then Chips Away and their ilk are the place to go, and normally charge much less than £200 for such a job.

I may fantasise sometimes about kicking in the door panels of a stupidly and selfishly parked car, but I wouldn't dream of actually doing it. As anyone whose pride and joy has suffered malicious damage will confirm, it is very upsetting even when not serious. Not everyone has been properly taught and one has to show compassion for the intellectually challenged.

I notice though that some back room posters advocate such action, and one or two even admit to doing it. Surely this runs counter to the way most people feel? It's a criminal offence of course, although not one you are very likely to be punished for. But the real point is that it's extremely mean and petty-minded. I really can't approve. Read more

It's a point-malicious being intended harm, those comitting it would surely take some pleasure,as opposed to a reactive action, which may be regretted at a later date.I am not sure about things like keying, born of jealousy no doubt, but it is hard to imagine what is going on in the fetid mind of such a person.

I don't mind people parking on pavements, making mobile calls on the move or driving when as ripped as stoats provided they don't cause damage or injury. I don't think they ought to do these things, I just don't mind as much as some other people seem to when they do.

There are two things I particularly dislike though. One is parking a single car in the middle of a two-car space in a parking bay just because it's easy and the driver doesn't care about other people's convenience. The other is making a gratuitous u-turn in traffic, holding everyone up and causing tension, when it would be much easier and just as quick to drive round the block.

Taxi and minicab drivers are especially likely to do this, although they usually do it with a fair amount of despatch. But what on earth induces silly young women and silly old men to do it clumsily and slowly? Sheer idiocy, seems to me. Read more

So is it the technique or the concept that irritates? U-turns, just like their first cousins, the 3-point turns,
are perfectly legal. (where 'legal') I frequently have to execute 3-point turns due to local roads & geography - the alternative
is a planet-warming 'detour' .

Hi,

I am getting a new car next month and under it's current configuration, I can't link my Ipod to it. (Other than the 'Aux in' which isn't what I'm looking for)

The car is a Ford S-Max Titanium and comes with a Ford 6006 6CD unit. In my current BMW I have a Dension Ice Link that lets me use my Ipod connected to the stereo and have full use of the steering wheel controls.

That is what I'm looking for - my Ipod controlled by the steering wheel controls and permantely connected to my stereo.

Dension (or similar) don't make a unit for the Ford 6006 unit but they do make one for the 6000 unit (only difference is single CD I think). So an option I think is to 'downgrade' to a Ford 6000 unit and then get a Dension link.

My only problem with that is that a lot of people say that the 6000 or 6006 unit's aren't that great.

If I was to get an aftermarket unit, what would you recommend? It neeeds to be double DIN to fill the hole in my dashboard and preferably silver in colour. It must also be able to be connected to the Ford's steering wheel controls. Is this possible?

Any help most appreciated.

Hi thanks for your help but this info you have given is not what I have been told from other sources. I have been told that it is not a Sony unit, that unit is only fitted in European S-max's. I have also been told that this steroe in the S-Max is a true double DIN, not the 1 1/2 DIN's that Ford have fitted previously.

Any help most welcome.

I've just bought one of these (stop sniggering at the back there) and discovered Haynes doesn't do a manual. They list an Australian Mazda 121/Ford Festiva, which I understand are more or less the same, but are currently out of stock.
Can anyone out there help please? The first job will be a cambelt change. Read more

I saw these.
Some of the the feedback refers to them as 'service manuals not workshop manuals'.
There's a lot of hype in the advert, and being a cynical ole git I gave them a miss.
Thanks for looking for me.

My Seat Toledo TdiSE has been an incredibly reliable car. I bought it towards the end of 1999. The car has never let me down.
The milleage is now 136,000 miles on the clock.
Unfortunately when I do my regular long distance runs of 220 miles twice or three times weekly, the coolant level goes from the maximum line to the minimum line after each 220 mile trip. No oil lost just coolant. ( it still does near 60 mpg).
My local main Seat dealer has now given up searching for leaks. They have been extremely helpful; but they think it can now only be the main cover head gasget. ( previously they replaced the water pump and a split rubber hose).
It all depresses me, as it is far the best car I have ever had.
I would greatly appreciate it, if somebody will tell me if they have any idea at all what causes the leak. I know they can be impossible to find though. Read more

I thought I would have to get rid of such an incredibly reliable car.

Glad to read that! (I have exactly the same car...)

My wife runs round in a M-Reg Micra with an automatic gearbox. Now sometimes stiff to get into gear it is also making an awful grinding noise. Anybody know of a cheap repair that will get us anopther few months out of it? I will scrap it eventually but while I don't want to strand the missus I also can't afford a replacement yet. Do SLICK or people like that make an additive and does anyone know if it is any good?

Hi,

I have a lease car that is due to go back next month and am wondering what it's worth. If I can buy it cheaper from the lease company than I could sel it for, I might go for it.

It's a BMW 320d ES Touring 2004 '04' plate. It will have 120k on the clock when it should go back and a years MOT. All tyres are fairly new, full BMW service history, no dents or scratches, interior in good condition. It is is a good colour, a dark blue metallic.

Factory fitted options include:

Climate Control
Front sports seats
Upgraded cloth
17" Alloy wheel upgrade
Multifunction 'M' Sport steering wheel
Sports suspension
Cruise control
Aluminium interior trim
Auto-Dimming rear view mirror
Rear parking sensors
Front foglights
Electrically powered folding mirrors

The car had a list price of £27k in March 2004.

Thanks
