Apparently the Scottish Executive has decided to sponsor the pass plus course to the tune of £75, so it should now only cost you £15 if you live north of the border

If you know anybody who is eligible, do all you can to encourage them !

I'm selling this car - it's in good condition and has around 92000 on the clock. Any idea of how much it is worth? I think there's a slight dent on the back. Very small though..... Read more

What trim level and engine?

The GT TDI spec Golfs seem to be fetching ridiculous money on the used market. We were going to buy one a few months ago until I realised that anything advertised under £6k was a dog. At the end of the day I just wasn't prepared to spend that kind of money on a mass produced 5 year old family hatchback. Even leggy ones (100k+) were still fetching strong money.

"Non GT" models or those with the lower powered diesel engine are much more realistically priced.

I nominate

1. The Zafira Fat Boys
2. The Corsa idiot puppets
3. The ghastly Dolmio puppets and their silly Italian voices
4. Anything involving talking toilet blocks
5. Any wrinkle reducer based on tests involving just 78 women

Further nominations welcome - I am sure I have missed loads!

Hi,

I can get aftermarket pads for my Clio for about £10 give or take and genuine Renault ones for £38 give or take.

I heard that aftermarket ones tend to be softer so it might be false economy?

The genuine ones on the car will last about 36,000 miles I would say, given they have done 28k and there is about 5mm of material remaining..

Thanks Read more

Aftermarket pads are OK provided they are correctly specified for the vehicle, of reputable make (Lockheed, Mintex, Ferodo etc) and are genuine. Obviously they must be correctly fitted.

I have not always been entirely satisfied with the performance of some French friction materials - for the Peugeot 106D I look after, Lockheed pads are the best by a mile.

Unbelievable one this morning. I was coming down the A322 towards J3 of the M3. It's a 50 limited dual carriageway.
I saw a small white van with hazard lights on ahead of me, as he pulled out to pass a couple of cars I thought, he's a bit close to the van in front of him.
Sure enough when I passed them, still doing 45 ish there was a 15 foot tow rope between them.
What kind of mind thinks that is safe? Read more

worried that it might have damaged my chassis. Could that be
possible?

Let alone clutch wear! I once did a lady a good turn and offered to tow start her car. The stupid ***
tried to start it on the way uphill instead of waiting until the car was on level ground. I can still smell that burning clutch.

I drive a Mazda 323 1.8sport, and love it.
However I have two horses and would like to be able to tow a trailer as well as carry all the horse kit and feed and dogs etc that i seem to have piled in my mazda these days.

So I think a 4x4 is an option but what to get.....! ( for £6500)
I thought a Freelander TD4 - but seem to have reliability problems
A shogin pinin seems not to have a good towing ability

I do like to drive quite quickly but acceleration is more important than top speed,
I have to admit for a little bit of boy racer.... so like alloys, side steps etc !
mpg is obviouly and issue, but I don't mind fuel type
The mazda has cost me nothing to keep on the road, am I opening myself to big bills with a 4x4?
I'd ideally like less than 60,000 miles on the clock and less than 7 yrs old.

Can anyone make any suggestions ?

I bought an S plate 1.9TD Volvo S40 today, its got 114k on the clock and it needs service. I'm planning to do it all myself with the help of a mechanic friend. I need to change the oil in the gearbox (its manual) because it feels stiff when changing gears. Would you please let me know what engine oil shall i use to get the best possible MPG and what oil shall I use for gearbox? Shall I get the gearbox oil from Volvo dealer or something from Eurocarparts of GSF would do the job? Read more

If it turns out that the leak is from the door seal and not the pollen filter, this link might be useful for you - www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=44216

I think there was a similar step-by-step in that forum for resolving the pollen filter leak as well, try searching for it.

My E46 has a lap belt only and it's one of my main gripes with the car, fortunately been a coupe I rarely squeeze three people into the back anyway! :-)
