repairing scratches - frank the tank

i've scratched the driver rear wing of my '03 astra and need to get it sorted as cheap as possible. i've been quoted a figure near £200 to get it sorted professionally, i was wondering if anyone on the site would be kind enough to give me some advice on sorting it myself, i've spoken to a bloke in the pub whilst consuming some beers and i'm sure he said that they would polish out!!! any suggestions? all would be greatly received.

Use a wax crayon the right colour as a temporary fix.

Depends how deep it is. If shallow, Meguiars Scratch-X is worth a try. If deep, then Chips Away and their ilk are the place to go, and normally charge much less than £200 for such a job.
